Concerts you didn't go to

We all talk about the PJ shows we've been to, what about the ones where you had tickets but couldn't make it for whatever reason?

Here are mine:

Sacramento Cal Expo 1995. I bought tickets by calling in to the 800 number you had to call back then. Turns out my honeymoon ended up being during that time (see below) so I sold them to a buddy. I hear that was a great show.

Austin City Limits 2009 I got tickets but as the time came closer my ex and I were not getting along at all and I didn't want to go with her so I sold them. I should have gone but it wasn't a good time in my life.

Now all is well and my wonderfully supportive girlfriend and I are trying to get to Pensacola or waiting to see where they play before as warm ups. I don't think it's too much to ask for them not play the East Coast for the 17th straight year (slight exaggeration) and come to Texas is it?

MSG Night 1, 2003 (The Garden DVD night): friend's older sister and boyfriend jacked the tix. Didn't have enough money as a teen to scalp for more.

    London 05
    Kitchener 05

    Toledo 04

Had 10C tickets for the the 05 shows but had to transfer them :( I was in college at the time and I couldn't switch the dates of some exams I had to take during the time of those shows. Also couldn't make the Toledo 04 show due to an exam.

Also had to let go of 6th row Bruce solo tickets due to a college exam.

Alpine Night 1...It's a shame it took the awesomeness of day 1 to convince me to drive up for the 2nd.

Would've crossed so many more tunes off the list too.

Alpine Valley 2003. Chicago 1 2006. Was a poor college student in 03 and poor recent college grad in 06 and couldn't afford to make it to either. Now that I'm actually working and making $$, they barely tour anymore :fp: :fp:

    Grand Rapids '06

Was on my way with my best bud from Cleveland, our hometown, and after about a half hour into the trip decided to turn around. We are huge Cleveland sports fans and the Cavs had a chance in a Game 6 to beat the Pistons to go to the NBA Finals. We'd seen PJ plenty and knew that we already had tickets to see them in a couple days at Cleveland's arena. So, we turned the car around and scalped tickets to see the Cavs, who lost it and a subsequent Game 7. The game was close and we were one late defensive rebound away from winning. The PJ show after that was phenomenal and had the best "It's OK" tag to Daughter ever (see those other 2 recent threads). I had always been viewing the boards for a long time, but that's when I first joined as my first post was an unsuccessful desperate plea to try to sell the Grand Rapids tickets. (See my join date.) My only slight regret was that the Grand Rapids setlist turned out to be one of the coolest shows of that tour.

I drove home 14 hours from Quebec for my husband's birthday and then flew to Newfoundland for those two shows. Missed a good one. Had to cut Canada short again this year for the same reason - no Calgary. I am not sure I will do it a third time. His birthday is the same weekend as the festivals this year.

St. Louis 2010. Our flight from New Orleans back to MSP got cancelled, which made my flight to St. Louis unmakeable.

Also, the 2003 tour had 5 shows in a 5 hour radius from me. I didn't have tickets for 4 of those shows, and I was a poor college student and didn't have a car or money to travel around. Now if that same tour were to come through, I'd probably catch all 5!

I missed MSG II in 1998, had to go to a wedding. Missed the rehersal dinner to go to night 1, so figured it would be bad form to miss the wedding as well.

Wembley 2000, would have been my first PJ gig. I was 18 and strapped for cash so pulled out. Didn't think it be another 6 years before I got the chance...

That was my first PJ show! Actually it was my first concert ever. It was a gorgeous London day; sunny and warm. There was a game at Wembly that was going to decide who gets to move up to the Premier League. We got off the tube with a bunch of the fans and they were chanting through the streets. Being an American this was all new to me. We watched the game in a pub, then went to the show that night. Truly one of the greatest days in my life. Sorry, not trying to rub it in, you just brought back a great memory!

Camden II '08...would have been my first PJ show. Was supposed to go with a friend, but then something came up for her. And guess what? In the end, her obligation got cancelled. I was PISSED! Looking back now, though, I wouldn't have appreciated the show NEARLY as much as I should--I had quite literally just gotten into PJ at the time and would not have known many songs in the setlist.

Any one of the Philly '09 shows- The Philly shows fell on my 17th birthday and birthday weekend and ALL I wanted was to attend just one of them. Would have also been my first PJ show. My parents, who are separated, kept telling me to ask the other parent, and didn't seem at all into the idea. At one point, it seemed like my dad was leaning towards yes (helping out with transportation and hotel accommodations), but decided it would be too hard to do. I still hold a grudge to this day about this unfortunate event  But, by the time I finally got to go to my first (and only. I sincerely hope this changes soon. I got the PJ concert bug!) shows (MSG 1 & 2 2010), it was like this grand, most-exciting event for me! Fully appreciated the epicness of both shows and it was 2 years well worth the wait. So I guess it all worked out. Everything happens for a reason?

I was only 17 with limited funds, so I chose night 1 of the 94 Atlanta shows at the Fox over the well known night 2 show. Great show, but just not as well known as the Sunday show.

I had tickets to the July 21, 1998 Seattle concert. Still kickin myself for not going, but was a lot younger and just couldn't afford it.

Would love to have been there.

Alpine-1992... to young and didn't know anyone going at the time.

Chicago-1995... this one really hurts. Went to the Milwaukee show two days before but not the Soldier Field show. Pain... Still in pain on this one. Such an amazing show. Probably the best Chicago Pearl Jam show ever! Hard to beat.
Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that's a dumb question... skip that.

I almost missed the Vancouver 05 show when my truck's engine threw a piston rod while going over the mountain pass in North Cascades. I used some mountain water to cool the engine down, was able to baby it over the pass, and luckily it was literally all downhill to Mt. Vernon where I was able to rent a car. I missed the Supersuckers and was in my seat for only a few minutes before Release started.

The next day I decided to try to drive my truck back to Seattle with a friend following in the rental car. I only made it two miles before the engine disintegrated and started throwing debris all over the road. I pulled the truck over, got out and noticed a huge billboard with an 1-800 number to donate your car. I called and told them to pick it up in front of their sign. :D

I still have the broken piston rod as a memento.

What a nice, painful thread you've started!

Toledo 1996... Ten Club ticket problem. They didnt have enough tickets so we didnt get them. We were still near Toledo anyway because my brother was in school near there, and we found out the next day the TC had extra tickets for anyone who showed up after getting shut out. PAINFUL!

Grand Rapids 2004... We went to Toledo and were going to do MI and go home, but we had to be somewhere the day after so I was told Toledo would have to be it. And in my opinion, the MI show was one of the best VFC shows. Wah wah!
