actually, GF, it's usually the media is what paints white on black violence as racist/hate crime. no one wants to touch a story with a ten foot pole when it's black on white crime. that's just how society works right now.

but in reality, it IS actually a bit easier to jump to the conclusion of it being racist if it's white beating on black, for historical reasons, and because I believe it's simply a much rarer occurence. I would tend to think that black on black crime is way more prevelant than black on white crime. it's the same up in canada with aboriginals. I've never heard of a group of aboriginals attacking a couple white guys. But I wouldn't be at all surprised by a group of racist white guys attacking some aboriginals. it's just the way it is.

So O'Reilly takes the statements from the police and the newspaper and says 'I don't believe them, they're lying'.....then extrapolates that assumption into borderline slanderous conspiracy accusations; totally unsubstantiated, aside from an alleged clerical error....The newspaper was likely also told the hate-crime checkbox was a clerical error (if they even bothered looking into it after speaking to their employees), so for them to say they don't normally cover those stories is a legit statement. The interview the frickin victim, and he says nothing about a hate crime, or coverup conspiracy. Saying 'the police are confused' is more bullshit - they said it was a clerical error. No confusion in that statement.

Such typical bush-league fox journalism. Nothing sensational to sell your show with Billy boy? Make something up. Enflaming racial tension is as stupid as it is dangerous. Unreal. Based on what I read in the article, I can't say I have much more respect for anyone propagating this angle. If it turns out to be true, fine, report it in your usual grade 3 sensationalist fashion.....but until then, stop with the speculation.

You provided a possible answer to your initial question in your second paragraphed (I underlined it for your viewing pleasure). Maybe the paper was trying to avoid stirring the racial pot, given all the Trayvon madness that's going on.

Anyhow, O'Reilly isn't news. As much as I used to enjoy it, it's just a "newsy" talk show. As I said before, there's not nearly enough information in this "article" to figure out what really happened. That said, the fact that hate crime was indicated in the initial police report and then later removed is enough to make this case worth talking about (by "Billy boy" and us). It's pretty funny that, considering the nature of the crime (insofar as what we know about it), you're willing to swallow the "clerical error" excuse by the police.

Interesting, when you google "Trayvon revenge attacks in chicago" or "in gainesville", you get tons of hits, but they're all from sites like:

blackmediascoop.com
stormfront.org
etc

Which leads a person to one of two conclusions, generally (I'll wager) depending on their own biases. Either:
1) This is just sensationalism on the part of off-center "news" sources, or
2) There is a massive cover-up of this kind of crime going on.

What a world we live in.
