In celebration of my one year anniversary as a 10c member, and to show my appreciation of this fantastic community of PJ fans, I would like to give away a copy of the TEN 3 disc set. This includes two CDs, the Ten CD and the Ten Redux CD, which has six extra tracks. It also includes the MTV Unplugged DVD. It's a wonderful little box set, and I would love to see a fan get it who has never had a chance to pick it up.

In order to enter, please post a story of how and when you discovered PJ. On Tuesday night, May 8, I will pull a name from a hat. This contest is open to everyone! :D

Here's my story: I have been a Neil Young fan for over 40 years now, and had never been to Bridge, although I had always wanted to go. In 2010, my wish came true, and I attended Bridge for the first time. Little did I know that my life would change that first night. When PJ hit the stage, I was completely taken with them, and I haven't looked back. :D How on earth I could have not heard them until then still baffles me! However, I am glad I did, as they have brought me joy beyond measure!! :D

Good luck with the contest, everyone!

My best friend and I were hanging out, with the radio on in the background. "Jeremy" came on. It was the first time either of us had heard it.

    Game OVER.

I asked my dad to drive me to the record store the next day, and bought "Ten" on cassette. I wore that tape out in less than a year, which worked out - it was about time I made the plunge and acquired one of those "compact disc players" anyway.

    Thanks for the opportunity!

Well I first heard Pearl Jam when my brother and his friend's were listening to it. I borrowed some CD's off of my bro's friend and listened to them a bit, but first listened to Lost Dogs which was a unique experience. Listening to all the b-sides and rarities then all their albums made it better in a sense. Anyway I listened to them sometimes but mostly listened to Alice in Chains, then about 10 months ago started listening to Pearl Jam religiously and joined the 10c.

Good luck to all! And thanks for the chance.
Go listen to John Frusciante right now!

My story is kind of embarrassing.

I started out as a pretty big Creed fan  (keep in mind I was like 12 at the time). After about a year of intensely jamming to Creed, I started going to my Mom's work after school to mess around on the extra computers they had - we didn't have a pc at the time. I eventually had a conversation with one of her friends there about music and told her I was a Creed fan, she just laughed. So I asked her who her favorite band was - Pearl Jam! For a few weeks I was still a delusional Creed fan, but after talking with her a few more times I decided to give PJ a go. I think you can all figure the ending out :D

    Thanks for this great giveaway!

I was 16. 1995, this girl I liked said her favorite band was Pearl Jam. So I listened, and loved it. Bought tickets to an upcoming show but her asshole dad wouldn't let her go. So I went with a buddy. Never been the same since.

    Would love the unplugged!

Friend gave me Ten and said dude you gotta listen. Popped disc into car. Heard Once, etc and now we are here. Nothing like having a sports car, girl in the seat, blasting Ten... Ahhhhhh....
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

I discovered PJ through what was a ritual for me for several years- recording to VHS as much music off SNL, Letterman, Conan and Leno as possible. The night PJ played "Alive" I had a tape rolling. Still have it! I'd previously seen The Beach Boys, The Who, Hendrix, Miles Davis, Neil Young, REM, - all live, tons of bands live, but, besides The Replacements and a few others, I hadn't been excited by much around that time so it was totally cool and refreshing to see these guys tear it up on SNL.

Even still, I didn't get immersed right away. I always liked their stuff yet I didn't become a full fledged PJ junkie until a few years ago. No Code, and Riot Act really got things going for me that way.

Now? Forget it- there's no cure! :D

Very cool that you're doing this, PJForceofNature!

Aaaagh, really don't know when I 1st discovered them, 1991, mid-teens, Ten came out etc etc.....

I know the story behind getting into them big time after pretty well not listing to them between 1994 & 2008: Workmate played me Into the Wild, liked it, bought it. Backspacer came out, bought it, liked it. PJ toured here end of 2009, bought ticket, went to show, next day bought ALL albums, joined fan club.....

Tomorrow is 6 weeks until my 3rd PJ overseas trip since that fated day November 27th 2009(concert day)!!

Great competition. Love the 'In celebration of my one year anniversary as a 10c member' idea. Thanks for the chance. :)

I was 16, me and some friends went to a cottage for the weekend. I'm not even sure what one of my friends brought the Ten cd, bought I'm glad he/she did. I remember sitting on the deck, someone had thrown it in the ghetto blaster (yeah you heard me) we were having a couple of beers and a rock n roll cigarette and it was all over from there. I think we listened to that cd front to back about 6 times that weekend :D

    Thanks for the chance

I haven't been the same since PJ discovered me in the early 1990's. Their music helped me to survive the negatives in my life during that period - breakup of a long relationship, several other bad relationship choices, losing my job, moving to get away from those bad choices several times.

But, PJ was also an ever-present force in the positives that grew out of those negative experiences - finding a great job (in fact, I've been with the same company for 15 years now, and love it), graduating college, becoming involved in a healthy, lifetime relationship, and watching my beautiful nieces grow and become wonderful young adults. Life does come full circle, and PJ has been in the forefront of all of these experiences.

Thanks so much for this giveaway! Good luck to all!

  • September 1993. 11 years old. I stayed up to watch the MTV Video Awards. I experienced my first live experience that solidified Pearl Jam as my favorite band. RITFW just blew me away. I recorded a replay on VHS and I'm sure annoyed the crap outta my folks. For Christmas my sister got two copies of VS and was forced to swap one with me because I got Aerosmith's Get A Grip. Who was the loser of that trade?? Soon afterwards, I hijacked her Ten cassette and have been a fan ever since. From the good times to the bad times, the music has been a beacon. Thanks for the opportunity. And thank you Pearl Jam for everything.
  • My history teacher always played music during tests. Usually it was stuff I never heard of before. I didn't pay attention because it was just background music. That changed as soon as Garden came on. I ended up writing down some lyrics on my desk, then copying them to a scrap of paper after the test. I came home, found out who sang it, and here I am :D

    Thanks :)
