i went in 2010
to the "Rockery"
honestly the weed, "laughing buddha" wasn't any better than what i (used to) smoke
and my brownies are much better than their "space cakes"
but it was fun
I don't think the general response to this has been the filling of one's bongwater with their tears, Mr. Speedy McSourpuss Seems like it's more about the business/tourism side of it.
When I visited 25 years ago, I didn't even hit the cafes. Moseyed around the red-light district, had a stupendously delicious and hospitable dinner, and toured the Anne Frank house (more valuable to me than anything else there).
I also tried on oversized wooden clogs.
(For what it's worth, there are many issues we chime in on, even if they're taking place across the globe. Locale doesn't determine opinion.)
No need to get bent out of shape folks....
Its nothing personal....
I just have a feeling that 98.345% of the tourists who visit the Netherlands....
Are not going there just so they can smoke dope in some outdoor cafe....
Take me piece by piece..... Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
Cracks me up...
That people get upset over this...
People who live thousands of miles away...Are upset cuz they cant get on a plane and smoke dope in the Netherlands????
People believe that tourism will collapse over there??? You are telling me the only reason people go to The Netherlands, is to sit in a coffee shop and smoke dope?
Put down the fucking bongs people.....
hehehe
At least we don't spend time dismissing other people's discussions for no apparent reason. Yours is not a very worthwhile post, I gotta say. And for me the issue is whether or not a place can create laws to treat people in a discriminatory manner, and that is a pretty worthwhile point of discussion to me! I think you're missing the poibt a bit.

Ten percent of tourists who visit Holland do so exclusively for the pot. The cafes do $2.6 billion in business a year, generating $503 million in tax revenue.
Why is the government shutting all this down?
The conservative-led government elected 18 months ago is sick of the country's reputation as a haven for drug tourists. The city of Maastricht, bordered by Germany and Belgium, was being overwhelmed by tourists driving in strictly to buy marijuana. And production for the cafes led to a thriving black market, turning Holland into a major drug supplier for the rest of Europe, Ard van der Steur, a Parliament member and a spokesman for the ruling People's Party for Freedom and Democracy, tells The New York Times. "We have created an incredible criminal industry that we need to get rid of."
There ya go....
I was wrong....
90% of the tourists arent visiting strictly for the dope.....Not 98%

I was in Amsterdam about 3 years ago, and a few of the conversations I had were regarding the irresponsible, out of control, disrespectful tourists. In short, we did it to ourselves:
You do it to yourself, you do
And that's what really hurts
Is that you do it to yourself
Just you and no one else
You do it to yourself
