Man, reading through the 13 year old responses here makes me cringe.

It’s insane how often groups label someone as “angry” when all they are doing is being inquisitive. The OP had zero anger behind it.

In my opinion easter traditions with the bunny and chocolate came to be for one reason: indoctrination. Exact same as xmas. You create/steal a story from an older religion, make it cute and cartoony and BAM: kids are invested. It isn’t until later they understand the real reasons behind the holiday, and by then, it’s already been their “belief system” for a decade or two.

If you waited until people were college age to teach them religion, you’d have a fraction of believers you have today. But probably more MAGATS. Some people need to believe in SOMETHING.
I just typed Easter in the search bar so I could give a quick thanks, this came up first, sort of like looking for music. Thank you for shitting on me, this was never my intention.. Now we know who you are as a person. Thanks man, I thought you were cool all this time, now I know.

Thanks for resurrecting HFD. Fun to look back at old threads like this, lol. It actually happens to be my bday today - makes me think about the difference between me then and me now... and I still think Easter is weird, hahaha.

Holidays have become commercial. That is not an incorrect interpretation. But at the heart of each holiday is family and tradition. It is what you make of it. Regardless of your religion. There are few days each year when you can just shut it down. I guess Easter is one of them.

Yeah, we had two family dinners this weekend, both were fun and (most) everyone was together, which is nice, and hard to schedule these days when there isn’t an “important” holiday as the reason.

I’m just always conflicted about getting together to celebrate holidays steeped in a story I don’t believe in, not to mention the atrocities inflicted by the church over the centuries.

Btw, the pope is dead. Hadn’t seen a thread yet.

I like the reasons to get together and spend time with family. Whatever the reason, at anytime. I am not religious, so I have not really believed in any of the religious aspects. I do not like the feeling that I have to put out a $500 spread. Thanksgiving. New Year's. Easter. July 4th. Heck even Memorial day. I guess it is cheaper and less stressful than going on vacation together.  =)

Maybe he'll rise after 3 days? History says it can happen.

And an ova getting fertilized without sperm...

I think those Italian mobsters said - hey if they'll buy this they'll buy anything n pay us to diddle their children, too!

I seriously wonder how dumb people can be.

Ktunaxa have a much better creation story which explains why there's so few Indians albeit erroneously. The local Syilx have a good one too, fly sings bear back to life after bear gives his life for the humans
