The Beatles 50th Anniversary

50 years since the release of their first single, "Love Me Do". Many more songs and albums would come out in an 8 year span that would change music forever. I know Liverpool is celebrating all year for this and Abbey Road is even doing tours of the studio this year. I would love to be there this year for the festivities.

I fucking hope not. As much as I love the Beatles and can't bring myself to defend that movie.
It is time that Let It Be finally got a proper release though. PRETTY FUCKING PLEASE!!!
I'd love to see a release of Let It Be but it sounds like Paul doesn't want it to be released.
Also, when can we see the release of "Carnival of Light"?? I want to hear weird Beatles!

I could defend it on many grounds....but I don't feel like doing it now.

I've never even heard The Beatles defend it. I think the only thing I've ever heard them say that wasn't bashing it was pointing out that Steven Spielberg liked it, for whatever reason.
"It could have been mine, but I’m not sure whether I want to take the blame for it!" - Paul McCartney
To each their own though. I can't tell you not to like it. And there are some decent scenes, mainly the musical numbers, but as an overall film I think it's a piece of shit.
Yeah sure it is...but I defend it on the grounds of "It's another thing by the Beatles." And while it's mind-numbing to sit and watch sometimes, I enjoy many of the parts. All 6 songs (The Fool on the Hill and Your Mother Should Know sequences especially), the orchestral All My Loving on the beach, the circus-style She Loves You during the race, the incidental music on the bus (which also appears on PJ's Ramblings 2 X-mas single), the horrible acting and half-assed editing. I wouldn't ever say to someone "Here, watch this." But I myself have probably watched it at least 30 times in my life.
I've made a bootleg that consists of album outtakes as well as audio from the film. I'm uploading it now and I'll post the link. Ya might like it even if ya hate the movie.

The drill sergeant character spouting gibberish has always cracked me up!
I like the musical numbers.
Overall, yeah, it's self-indulgent crap, but I still like it because it showed that the Beatles were human after all (in that they could fuck up & not everything they did was pure genius)

Wow! That's amazing. Clapton definately had more chops than George or John. Perfect guest guitarist on a Beatles record.

While I'm all for ANY official Beatles release, since I don't guess we've really had anything since the Anthologies in 95/96 (unless you count "Let It Be...Naked", which I don't), I'm not really all that excited about this. I'll probably buy the movie/soundtrack or whatever else, but I'm just not that into real early Beatles stuff. The 12 song setlist comes from the first 2 albums (or singles from the same period), which I realize are classic but just not my cup of tea. I don't REALLY start liking them until "Help!", although I like some stuff from "A Hard Day's Night" and "Beatles For Sale". Everything from "Rubber Soul" to the end of their career are the ones I mainly listen to.
Also, The Beatles were admittedly lousy live because they couldn't even hear themselves over all the screaming girls.
So this is cool, and will hopefully open the door for more stuff, but I won't be counting down the days.
Sounds pretty cool to me!
Pretty sure the Beatles never played their later stuff live, since their last show was in 1966. Also they had become studio musicians who knowingly couldn't replicate their songs in a live setting by then.
Their early stuff is underrated by many in the later generations - nobody could touch them even at that stage.

They did some from Rubber Soul during their 1966 tour, like "Nowhere Man" and "If I Needed Someone". You can find those in the Japan concert.
I'm just excited to see The Beatles on the big screen.

Well, there was the Rooftop Concert in '69, but I'm not sure that would be a great release. Yet again I'd probably buy it, and while it's cool in theory, it wasn't so much a concert as much as it was a film/video shoot. Doing multiple takes of songs, some good, some not so good, along with sound, equipment and police problems.
I don't think The Beatles early stuff is underrated, it's what I mostly hear on the radio and see on TV. When I got into The Beatles in HS I was blown away by all the stuff like The White Album, Let It Be, and a lot of their stuff I'd never heard. The vision of The Beatles I had always known was the guys in collarless suits singing pop songs.
Also, when can we be expecting "Carnival of Light"?
Thanks for the info!

John, still writing about pain and loss even when he became a father a second time. Never did leave him. Beautiful song.

Yeah, I've always heard it was Paul who was blocking the release also. It's kind of silly though, it's readily available in bootleg form to anybody who wants a copy, or anybody who just wants to download it. Why not just release it and make some money off of it?
I realize "Let It Be" shows The Beatles with warts and all, but I don't find anything in it too bad. And by this point everybody who knows anything about The Beatles knows about the feuds and breakdown in their relationship as a band. There's really no sense in whitewashing what went down anymore. Also, some of the more drama-filled moments of the film (like George getting pissed at Paul while recording "Two Of Us") have been pretty well documented in official and un-official documentaries about the band.
I've heard it will NEVER be released, and then somebody will come along and say it's coming out, then it goes back to NEVER. So who knows. Looking at the Wikipedia page for the film it says that...."The film's director Michael Lindsay-Hogg has stated that the film may be released on DVD and Blu-ray sometime in 2013". So who knows.
If I were Paul, I'd personally be more embarrassed by "Magical Mystery Tour" than anything in "Let It Be". Whatever happens, I hope they release it. I really like the film, and the album (which some people don't consider a true Beatles studio album) is actually one of my favorites.
I'm trying to think, is there any other movie, except for maybe REALLY old movies, that has won an Academy Award (Let It Be won for Best Original Song Score) that is completely unavailable except for VHS bootlegs, or digital copies of the VHS bootleg?
In conclusion... RELEASE THE FUCKING MOVIE PAUL. Otherwise I'm starting those "Paul Is Dead" rumors again.

I posted a link in the vinyl thread, and then Acoustic Sounds had to retract their statement and take the preorder page down til October 1.
Why not count Let It Be....Naked? I admit it's an awful name. They could've went with just about anything else improved on that title.
I like how clean and raw everything sounds. The vinyl sounds stunning.

And why not count "Love"? Lots of interesting stuff on that. The Mr Kite/She's So Heavy mash-up is great. Obviously everyone seems to like Within You Without You/Tomorrow Never Knows. And I love Strawberry Fields building from the demo to the master with elements from many songs (Penny Lane's trumpet, In My Life's piano, etc) in the coda. Great stuff.
Not only that, but the songs that weren't "mashed-up" but simply remixed sound great on this. I Am The Walrus in particular.
