What exactly have Soundgarden ever done wrong to make people stop being interested in them? That's what I don't understand about your post. Their last 3 albums were fantastic before they split in 97, anyone who was a fan back then would have spent the last 14 / 15 years just hoping for them to get back together. I know I did.

I can think of countless other bands over the past 14 or so years who have given plenty of reasons for many fans to lose interest, be it change in musical direction or strange career decisions. PJ included, even though I generally kept my interest.

I think you made a groundless comment, then flunked when someone questioned you.

sure, pearl jam has done a hell of alot more than soundgarden has since 1997, but that doesnt deny the fact that the vast majority of people dont even know that pearl jam still exists.

i made a statement about how i feel. nothing 'groundless' about it. sorry soundgarden fans. should have mentioned it.

Like just about everyone said, that was really disappointing. It may be a song for a soundtrack (with a bunch of shitty bands on the rest of it), but I'd be embarrassed to release that anywhere. Kim Thayll's guitar playing at the end sounds as awesome as you'd expect, but he couldn't save it... Nothing can. Cornell's last few solo albums are pretty bad too, so I feel like I can no longer trust him to write a good song. If Matt wrote a few songs for the Soundgarden album, they will probably will kick ass, so I hope that's the case.

I like it. As far as radio singles go (Pretty Noose, Black Hole Sun, etc.), I think it's one of their better ones. If the radio single off their album is this good, I'll be satisfied. My favorite Soundgarden songs are always the deep album cuts, not the ones released to radio. For having been gone as long as they have, I'm just glad it's a helluva lot better than Tattoo.

I hate to be so negative and sure I'll get blasted by the fanboys (chances are I'm a bigger SG fan than you)

Oh the irony....can't belive you've got the gall to call people 'fanboys' then you come up with an elitist comment like that.......

i still fail to see how pearl jam, this message board or any other irrelevant point you've tried to make have anything to do with the statement i made...which, if i may add, was irrefutable. sorry to ruffle your feathers. i'm sure cornell appreciates you coming to his defense, even though he's probably as surprised as i am that people are still interested in hearing 'new' soundgarden music.

Why would he be surprised? Soundgarden sold over 20 million records, that's quite a lot of people who would be interested. The point about Pearl Jam is relevant because the members are just as old and whilst they have continued to make music, so has Cornell - it's not like he dropped off the map for 15 years. What this boils down to is a snarky comment about a band you clearly don't have a lot of time for.

is that new soundgarden song good? how did you like the cornell solo stuff? when was the last time 'Soundgarden' released an album of new material? how many years ago exactly was it?

a more appropriate comparison would've been guns-n-roses. not pearl jam.

regardless, my initial statement was nothing more than a personal reaction, so there is really nothing to argue with.

I think it's good, not incredible, but for a song written for a specific type of movie it's fine.

I loved Euphoria Morning, and I've enjoyed some of his other solo stuff - his solo live show was pretty amazing. Oh and he was also in a little band called Audioslave, you might have heard of them?

15 years since their last record.

Nobody is trying to argue, you made a statement that you were always surprised that people are still interested in the band - people are just questioning why you would be surprised? Cornell has remained pretty successful since they broke up, yet most people still agree that Soundgarden was his best work, so when they decided to get back together people were especially interested - no real mystery involved :)

So...I've listened to this song loads...and have gone from hating it to actually quite liking it...I agree that for the most part it sounds more like a Cornell solo song, but I'm just pleased to hear a new Soundgarden song!

With that said I'm glad it's not going to be on the album

I noticed the song sounds almost exactly like a modern Rush song. Like something off Snakes and Arrows. It has the same production quality and feel.

The opening riff sounds along the lines of classic Soundgarden.

Then it slows down, Cornell starts singing and it sounds like one of his boring solo songs.

Not a very good song and I am hoping the album is a lot better.
