It arrived today....No Code. The last album I needed to regain the collection I had to sell to pay for the renovation to our cafe. And now I've got them all back. Thanks to a few great people here, and a little bit of a hunt on the bay, it's done.
In honor of this great evening, I'd like to give away a Live on Ten Legs Deluxe Box Set. Sealed.
What do you need to do? Post your best story of obtaining a pj (fill in the blank) that you really wanted.
I'll pick a winner on April 10, the day before my wife and I go to see ev in Vegas.
Shipping in the states is on me.
My quick tale....
December 23 of last year, my brother was coming from Seattle to visit. I had called Easy Street Records in West Seattle, and they were kind enough to hold a copy of PJ20 for me, and my brother had a friend of his pick it up for him to give to me. My brother gets the album, goes to the airport, puts his belongings on the kiosk as he gets his ticket from the machine, takes his belongings, gets on the plane, and when he lands for his layover in Los Angeles, realizes he left the record on top of the kiosk. He sends me a text explaining it's not a joke.
That same day, I was on my way to northern Utah to visit family for the holidays, and it wasn't looking like a fun trip as I read the text. I already had 4 different pre-sale orders get cancelled, and now this. After a few hours of my cell phone going in and out of service, I called the lost and found at Sea Tac airport. "I know there's probably no way this is gonna work, but I've got a question for you. Is there any chance anyone turned in a copy of a Pearl Jam record?" I asked the lady.
"No, but check back in a few hours. You'd be surprised what happens around here."
Yeah, right. In Seattle, someone's gonna turn in a sealed copy of PJ20, just released, almost impossible to find, anywhere....
I call back in a few hours and get the same lady. "Any chance it's there?"
She recognized my voice. "Still sealed." She said. "Where would you like me to ship it?"
And that is why Seattle, apart from the restaurants, music, people, scenery, etc...is so fucking cool. The lady told me once that someone even turned in $10,000 in cash. Wow.
There are little gift vibes out there sent by pj....after all, it was December 23.

Why not (V) (°,,,,°) (V) ?
I don't have any really good stories...I just remember seeing the 1995 Christmas vinyl in the Goods section for only $4 a few years back, and I jumped on it. I'd been wanting that one for awhile.
In 2009, mid August, I went to the kind-of-record-store-day-fair held in Buenos Aires (weird they don't suscribe to RSD, anyway), I enter the premises, gave a long look around and I saw lots of stalls to check, so I began, the first ones were kinda of lousy, not vinyl at all, which was what I went there for, so, the first one I found with vinyl I found sealed Riot Act copy, US release, I asked him not to sell it because I wanted to check if there was something else of the same characteristics, other PJ vinyl or any other rare stuff, and probably I had to get out to the ATM. Unfortunately for me, there wasn't anything else, so I came back, asked how much for the Riot Act and the guy told 500 ARS, then I asked which is the lowest price he would be willing to sell it and he said 400 ARS, which at the time was about 100 USD, so I withdrew 4 bills from my wallet and paid.
So, I didn't have much else to do, since I took a look around before, and there wasn't many things I was interested in, but all the same, I went round the stalls, talked to some people, until I found Binaural, it was open, but the seller told me it was NM, that he only played once. I asked for the price, and he told me... HE WOULDN'T SELL IT!!!!! So I asked him why he had brought it, he replied "just for display"... whatever... I told him that it was the last one for me to complete my collection (at the time, I didn't know that Lost Dogs, RVM and Benaroya Hall were on vinyl, I learnt about it later on that day), I showed him that I just got Riot Act and paid 400 ARS for it. The he asked me how much I was willing to pay for his Binaural copy. I said I had only 400 (which was a lie), but I could offer 600, no more than that. Then he said that in order to convince him sell Binaural to me, I should offer at least 800... so I wished him a nice weekend...
However, a couple of weeks later, I called him on the phone to his store, he might have changed his mind, but no, he stuck to the 800, and was a bit rude in fact, and he was even more pissed of when I told him that there was an auction for a sealed Binaural on the bay finishing within 2 hours, and the winning bid at that moment was less than 120 USD. He was upset that I found and was interested on a sealed copy instead of his, and he tried to talk me into buying that through him, but not only did I have to pay him the 800, but I had to tell him how much more I was willing to pay in case someone else outbidded me, regardless the shipping costs, which at the time, he told me he only use registered mail. I told him that kind of money was way out of my reach, and said goodbye.
Fortunately, I was nearby the record store I usually buy my vinyl, that record store is runned by two brothers, and I explained to them what I've been up to, what I got from the fair and the issue I had with that guy and the Binaural vinyl. So one of the brothers offered to take a look at the bidding, contacted the seller for shipping costs, and he told me that he wouldn't charge me with the fees I had to pay if he could purchase something else from that ebay seller, and besides I was a regular costumer of his, all in a rush since it was closing time. So I made a little downpayment, the rest I would pay it when the item arrived, in 4 weeks time at least. So he asked me how much I was going to bid, he told me to aim high, in order to secure it, and since it could take a month or so to arrive, I could save some money in case I exceeded my budget. So I told him to place 150 USD as maximun bid, and this is how much I paid for it, without shipping of course, I didn't know how much was for shipping since they bought some other stuff from the ebay seller, but regular mail was around 15 at the time. So here it is

On September 12, 2009 I created my own ebay account, but I didn't buy anything until later on November. I found out that RVM and Benny were way out of my league, but made a few attempts to get a copy of Lost Dogs, 2 or 3, I remember clearly attempting to get one, place 175 and lose. However, I scored one on November 15, same MO, I got it way cheaper than the others I tried to score before, however, the seller sent it to me via UPS, 19 USD for registered shipping, but the UPS guy in Buenos Aires rang my doorbell and said that I had to pay import fees, but it was only 12 USD so it didn't matter, I had my 3LP set, I was very happy... and here it is...

I hope you enjoyed the story, and remember to count me out, I have this item, which in fact needs a home and someone who can take care of it, not a twin brother...
there are a few i could post here but some are quite personal and private to me so i will go with something very powerful to me and that was being selected by the community here for a holy grail. i didnt want it nor felt i deserved it and i am still completely honored and floored to be selected from the huge amount of great fans here. everyday i look in my "PJ room" and think of that moment.

Well, I only got into collecting things about a year ago but a lot of my pieces have come from one day. I met up with a member locally as we spoke and I decided to get Binaural from him. I left to purchase just the one, but we ended out working out a deal that he sold me Riot Act, Yield, No Code & Binaural at a decent price (around $280 for the lot I think).
On the way home I was in a chipper mood and decided to pop into the local record store - only to find.... a copy of Binaural, Riot Act and Yield there for $190!!! The guy said he had never seen in the store before them so I snagged them up (sold 2 to a friend at cost - still have 2 copies of yield)- too bad they weren't 3 different albums as that would have been awesome to find 7 different PJ albums in one day!!
And about this giveaway, don't include me... I already have it... I just wanted to say congrats on getting your collection back.
My stories are humble in the extreme, my collection much smaller than most but I love every item I own & feel great joy when a shelf is full & another needs to be cleared for greatness. The spirit of giving & the generosity of PJ fans is a source of great joy & wonder. Seeing & being a part of the acquisition of Holy Grails, reading about searches such as javis', lost & found triumphs, donating to some very worthy causes, being the recipient of fan-share goods, & even checking off the easiest to get item on one's list makes for a great day. Mailing out a self-made share brings me the same satisfaction I get when sticking my face into my PO Box in anticipation of a package of glee, OK, to be honest, almost the same satisfaction
Yesterday, my daughter & I went to check out a used record store for the first time in many years. While no vinyl was to be had, I did find the Hail Hail/BlackRedYellow single, Jeremy Maxi CD single from Austria, I Am Mine 4 song CD from Australia in mint & an original Ten CD to replace my stolen one, Wooo, pretty happy I was.
The best part to me was the time I spent with my daughter who is now my new "partner to acquire girl" We are planning a Record Store Day foray so she can buy if a "one per customer" order is issued. Just so we can share any extras we hope to find with fellow fans. Cross fingers!!

My husband Cam and I both share a huge love for PJ. He introduced me to the bands music when we met 10 yrs ago. We used Eddie Vedder's music from Into the Wild for our wedding ceremony last year. It was great. We have been to concerts together and both given Pearl jam Cd's and shirts to each other for many bdays and xmas'. Having that love of music to share with him is really one of my favorite things about us.
Last Christmas 2011- I lived in Blaine, WA when we met. So we were down visiting my family Christmas day night. We got home late to Vancouver Canada. So late that we were not too excited about lugging all our things inside; we live in a basement suite and have to go through the garage first. So we decided to just head in and clean it up the next day. So we get up the next day and get ready to visit his family for boxing day.
Cam comes back inside the house and says he things someone stole from us. I thought he was playing a joke on me. But no. Someone had broken into our car and stolen all our gifts...and the worst part our collection of cd's. Another car not to far down the road was also hit. Growing up in Alaska and in then in the small town of Blaine, I was totally shocked. I know these things happen but I never expected it to happen to me. I'm so used to leaving my car door unlocked at night at my old house. I mean here I lock it but just the feeling of violation sucked. It wasn't the new things that got taken that upset us the most. It was our collection of music we built together for the last 10 yrs. We just finally finished it this xmas with my husband giving me the cd Pearl Jam.
That evening we were playing games at Cam's parents house and our friend dropped by. He came bearing gifts. Inside were a lot of little stocking stuffers and a CD. He gave us one of his copy of No Code. It meant so much to us his thoughtfulness. Our friends all heard and found out about what happened. They all know how much music means to us and how upset we were of our PJ music being taken. Slowly with gift certificates from friends/family we are starting the collection again. Its actually funny but the last CD to complete our collection is lost dogs. I haven't re-bought that one yet because its one of the most pricey ones.
So there is our story of giving pearl jam music, having it taken away, and getting it back.
Thanks for reading,
Christina
My all time favorite song by Pearl Jam is long road. As the house lights went off and ed started to play that gorgeous D chord I knew that show was goingn to be one of my favorites. At the end of the song ed threw his pic into the crowd. It took a turn in the air and it literally landed at my feet. I was beyond pumped.
We came acrossed this guy who was just talking to people, and asking the craziest questions, like "why do you feel you NEED to see this show?" and so we started talking to him and he ended up GIVING us tix to the show, after hearing our tales of the "western-front-fan-tour" it was so mind blowing that I never forgot what he'ds done..so much so that one day when I graduate school and have the money, I will do the same for some lucky PJ fan.. Anyhow I tried to pay for our tix and he REFUSED the money..citing his GF whom was ill and thus the tix were available, would have killed him ( figuratively I hope) if he sold the tix versus given them away.. I was blown away by this generosity.. anyhow that's my story.
Lot's of great memories from the forum but my number one has to be setting up the Holy Grail for Released1980. So damn rewarding working with you good people and helping others get the things they want. I've also had the chance to purchase many great poster at cost, thank you SuMay, Mark ect. Thanks, mighty nice of you....
I don't know if I have any great stories obtaining a PJ something or other... but my initials are also EV so when the merch with EV on it first started popping up, I thought it was totally cool! I have a friend who went to a show in 2009 and picked up a water bottle and wallet for me in 2009, and I use that wallet every day of my life.

It was 10/18/2000 in Lubbock, TX and the 10C seating gods had smiled on us and my wife and I found ourselves front row seeing PJ. This was my wife's first show (she always had been more of a Cyndi Lauper /Journey girl over anything from the 90's). The show was fantastic, PJ played an epic set including a nod to Lubbock's own Buddy Holly by playing a cover of his song Everyday.
Ed and Mike closed the show with Ledbetter and that's when everything went insane. Ed says "I need someone to dance with" and next thing I know these two hulking security guards are pulling my wife all Courtney Cox (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=129kuDCQtHs) style onto the stage. Jayme flipped. She's already a fairly shy person, dancing on stage with Eddie Vedder in front of 15K pretty much defined insanity. I literally screamed myself hoarse.
So as Mike wails out the solo Ed sits on the speaker with my wife. Gives her a bottle of wine and takes a couple of polaroids with her, giving her one http://www.fivehorizons.com/archive/pictures_lubbock.shtml
Jayme takes bows with the band and Ed tells Lubbock to "take care of Jayme!" and everything is great. Until meathead security guard enters the scene. We're freaking out with all our friends when the Schrekesque dude comes up and explains that we can't leave the venue with an open container of alcohol namely the wine Ed gave my wife. We offer to pour it out and dude says he has to confiscate it. I knew the only way he was getting this wine, the crown jewel of my PJ collection, would be out of my cold dead hand, so I hear myself telling this literal human side of beef that he's going to have to fight me if he wants it. Now to be clear I am not a macho guy or a kung fu master, I did theater and glee club in high school for pete's sake. So as I prep myself for what I am sure is going to be a total beat down Liz Burns comes over and diffuses the situation. She offers to mail it to us and then upon learning that we're going to the Albaquerque show two nights later she offers to take it and give it to us there.
The follow through was amazing. Liz had us on the post-show backstage list, she met us backstage and gave us the wine wrapped in an orange shirt with the word "Jamily" on it under the PJ beetle emblem. The amount of follow through for a fan cemented Pearl Jam has the greatest band in the world for me forever.
The bottle now sits on our mantle next to pictures of our two kids, it's a mantle decorated with things worth fighting for.
Thanks for such a cool give away! I too am headed to the Vegas show on the 11th, can't wait!
Mine is pretty simple. I was in Italy with some college buddies in 2002 and ran into a guy at the University of Rome that loved Pearl Jam. Long story short, I pulled out my acoustic guitar that I was traveling with and we had a Pearl Jam 'jam' session right in the middle of what was probably the quad. He told me all about the Milan show in 2000 so I went and bought the boot. And he was right...awesome show! Finishing off with Rockin in the Free World is quite a way to end a night.
No kidding! Might as well just take the rest of us out of the running.
That is a GREAT story, Damien! I was at that concert, but way back up top. I thought that was such a cool moment, wrapped up the night perfectly. I remember the 5H picture too, but don't think I ever heard the story of the wine bottle.
That was back when 10C tix were just one pair per tour, and since that was not a huge "popular" show, I think almost everyone there had either 1st or 2nd row, at least based on the 3 people I knew who were at that show with Ten Club tickets. Did you happen to meet a redheaded girl named Kameron at that concert? I always wonder what happened to her.
Cool you went to ABQ too! That was MY front row show.

Thanks for the chance! Have fun in Vegas!
recently i got an offer for a whole lot of vinyl, i had just started collecting vinyl.....i told my woman i wanted to buy this...she told me theres no way i could buy this.....so i got into the copper stash id been saving for awile... started stripping all this at 5 pm on a thurs nite, finished at midnight, i woke up the next day and my hands were so sore and cut up, i took my copper in got the $900 that i needed, sent payment and a week later i recieved some awesome albums!!!! my woman is still mad at me for it and every time i wanna buy another album she throws this in my face that i spent so much!!! but it was totally worth every bit of it and id do it again in a heart beat....only thing left for studio albums i have left is rvm and a benny and all box sets (which is coming)....except all singles! but congrats on your collection, youll enjoy it forever!!!!!!!!!!
At the end of Yeloow Ledbetter, Stone looks at me and points his finger in my direction, he aims his guitar pick and throws it; the distance between me and him was about 6, 7 meters.. It was dark and I could not visualize the pick, so I just raise my hands in the air and clap them, without any hope of getting anything but air. When I looked at my left hand I saw it: a beautiful orange pick with the name "Stone" written... a fresh pick recently played by my favorite guitarist, from my favorite rock band.
That's my story, the aquisition from Pearl jam that I will always remember, no benny or a rare poster can be compared to what I have, especially under the circunstances that everything happened...
So I saved saved saved every penny I had, scraped the barrel, bought my two tickets and air fares to ch ch. When that AMAZING weekend rolled around I was 6 months pregnant - just enough to have a nice circle of space around me in the front of the crowd! Thank you people! On the barrier Mike's side yea-ya!!
I literally had $15 for each day of my trip to ch ch so I knew well enough that I had to steer VERY clear of the merch stand. I saw a few amazing tee's etc but that was about it, I didn't care, I was at my 2nd PJ concert of the weekend with one of my best friends who was 8 months pregnant, what a sight we were....
It wasn't until weeks later I saw the concert poster for the christchurch concert (see my avatar) by Brad Klausen. When I saw it I lost my breath. It sounds so corny, but it seemed to be the merger of myself - my love of PJ, the sacrifices I made to get down to ch ch, my Maori ancestry, my respect for PJ, NZ and my culture. Of course I had no money to get my hands on the poster. But more importantly to me I wanted, kinda needed, to communicate to the artist of this poster how I felt about it. So randomly I googled BK, and ended up on a poster site where you could send PM's, so I sent a (yes, corny!!) fanletter explaining what I had explained to you all, not expecting any reply but just feeling better for getting it out.
Next day he replied.
Yes he did. He said it was really wierd that he hardly ever checked that site, but he had that morning. He was so kind and grateful for my feedback. Then he asked for my address. I'm sure you have guessed where this is going by now! There was such a wairua (spirit) to that poster and me, I tell ya.
And sure enough a few weeks later a signed, numbered AP of the poster arrived. Needless to say I treasure it very dearly. What an amazing thing for someone accross the world to do, for free, out of the kindness of their heart and respect for the mana (power) that their art has....for someone that they don't even know...it humbles me every time I think about it.
And now my little boy is 2 years old and we are doing great! Hope you made it to the end of my long story!! Thanks for the opportunity to share. Some great tales on this thread, love it. Hoping there will not be another 11 year gap between concerts.....
For those of you who have read this far, it's your turn....
I was one of the ones that, being broke, was still 'saving up' to get the fan club DVD set of PJ20 (with the bonus disks) when they went out of stock...and skyrocketed in price from the flippers. I was only barely able to afford the set at the original club price - no way I would be able to afford a set on ebay. I was pretty disappointed.
At this point, one of the members on this board offered to make a deal with me - we made a trade for what turned out to be a bunch of stuff, and both of us were extremely pleased with the outcome. But the cool part is that because of this trade and all the fun we had making it, we became friends.
This guy lives 4 time zones away from me, but we keep in touch regularly and have had some awesome conversations. In truth, I think I value the friendship WAY more than the 'stuff' I acquired in the trades (we have now made 2).
PJ fans are the best! And as much as I'd like to own a few more things, the most valuable thing to me are the friendships.
3 of us drove down from western mass. to philly for the show. I scored 10c tickets for me and my show buddy, and my friend from work wanted to come too so I found an extra 10c ticket on the board here. We met up before the show and he gets his ticket, turns out the other person hit the lottery, 2nd row mike side. I was happy for him, but alittle bummed since he isn't the PJ fan we are. I go get my tickets, lose my mind seeing how I also hit 2nd row mike side, and it happened to be the seat EXACTLY next to him. what are the odds of that happening? Finding a stranger to sell an extra 2nd row ticket for face to my friend, then pulling the seat right next to him for the best show I've ever seen. This happening is better than obtaining a piece of memorabilia, although I'm still looking for my holy grail
I was just a kid back in '98, and didn't really have means to travel to the nearest retailer selling the NEW release, Yield. Best Buy was doing a promo where you buy the album, get a free Given to Fly 7". The nearest Best Buy was 20 mins away (Eau Claire, WI). I couldn't drive yet, so I begged and begged my Dad to pick up the Yield CD on the release day, and asked him to pleeeeease get the free 7", for some reason back then that single meant the world to me!
Dad came home with a yellow Best Buy bag, Yield CD inside, but NO 7" . I thanked him for grabbing the CD, and not wanting to seem ungrateful, neither I nor he made any mention of the 7" single. I figured it was nice enough for him to pick up Yield for me the day it came out... but in my heart I was pretty bummed.
Later that night as I was in my room enjoying my first listens to Yield, my dad knocked on my door and popped in. He said something like "Oh, hey, this came with your album" and nonchalantly gave me the Given to Fly, like it was no big deal or he had forgotten or something. I knew he was hiding it, waiting to bring me down just a bit, then BAM, SURPRISE, good ol' pops came through for ya after all son! I was ecstatic. (To this day, my friends know that one of my signature moves is the LET DOWN PUMP UP )
Anyway my father passed away of cancer a couple years ago, and every year that goes by I find myself trying to cling tighter to the memories, cherishing those little moments with my Dad that once were, as I don't want them to slip away. Remembering the good things about him, the bad, missing him, thinking of him every day of my life. Some of you know that I love collecting PJ vinyl and go pretty nuts over a lot of it, but I truly believe in the end this is all just "stuff", it is temporary, it will not make you any happier. It is the relationships, the kindness, the memories that you get from these "things" that matter most to me.
Sorry to be over-sentimental! I sometimes need to remind myself to take a step back from collecting more "things", and to keep collecting more moments and memories. Looking forward to many more with all of you.
