good god. what a horrible comparison. the big difference is you don't see the above 3 trying to fix the industry that they make money from. I've never heard of any of those 3 complain that they dont' want to make albums anymore because Britney Spears is too popular. they are worrying about the safety and freedom and economics of others, not themselves.

I've been agreeing with BC this whole time, only problem is, he won't shut up until someone listens. He complained at SXSW that Radiohead didn't pioneer the free download, he did. The big thing with him is that he tried to do something different with the free music but pay for big time packaging, and it failed, and now he's jealous because it is confirming for him what he knows. he will never have the devout following of Radiohead or NIN. He just won't. I love SP. I love everything Billy has done. But there aren't many of us left.

He thinks it's the industry. It's not. many bands are still successful. He's not and it's drving him nuts.
OK. I hate starting off another post with "all due respect", but it's true.

    What about PJ vs. Ticketmaster?

What about the contracts these people/bands/businessmen have negotiated and have in place that assure they're compensated adequately or moreso for their work?

Granted I don't know much about Corgan, but in this interview, he didn't strike me at all as bitter over a lack of following. He struck me as someone who doesn't give much care to that end and was trying - doing a good job too, to me - of getting his points across.

I love BC's music, but I just cannot sit here and listen to Alt Rock's self appointed politician/saviour speak for an hour.

Does that make Eddie Vedder, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, etc. "self-appointed politicians/saviours" too?

As my 8 year old daughter would say, "If you don't like him, don't watch him". Simple as that.

And in the interview BC talked about Rush Limbaugh and the whole free speech issue. Certainly, you have free speech to diss BC, Hugh, or you just don't have to listen to him in the first place.
  • it's so ironic on this board when people tell you "just don't watch/read/listen to (insert medium here)" just because you disagree with them or don't like what they are saying or whatever.

I agree with the fact that the music industry business model no longer works. I just think we need to consider the source. This guy wouldn't be complaining about the state of the music industry if his latest idea to revolutionize it had worked for him. Case and point.

I've never heard the guy EVER talk about any band other than his own with regards to these issues. That's all I was trying to say.

this issue had nothing to do with PJ's profits. It had everything to do with them trying to get ticket prices decreased for their fans. Not increasing their own profits.

with all due respect to your 8 year old, I watch things that interest me. Billy Corgan's work interests me. I'm a huge fan, as I stated before. I shut it off after I realized what he was spouting off about, and how long the interview was.

And I could easily say the same thing back to you. if you dont' like what I have to say, you just don't have to read my posts in the first place. See how silly that sounds? I prefer an open dialogue, personally.

I think he is a very intelligent, well researched, and educated human being. I'm not saying he doesn't make good points. All I said was I was tired of hearing about the same damn thing over and over from him. So I turned it off.

Not sure why this caused such a stir. It wasn't intended that way.

Thanks for that last paragraph. The way you came across in your first post was general Billy Corgan bashing. Which is fine, that's your opinion. I just thought it was really negative after listening to the entire interview, and he didn't seem at all that bad; he raised some great points to think about.

too many people around here assume way to much off way too little. this just might be the last straw for me. I can't take this crap anymore.

It's the way you came across. I wasn't assuming anything, but the context in which we write is very important seeing that we don't know how the writer feels when they write their words. That's the problem with written word, we can't hear the tone of your voice.
