the man is one intense singer and guitar player. I enjoyed him on Ed solo tour 2 immensely, to the point if he played locally I would seriously consider going.

Worth the extra hour for sure!

Do the same for Glen that you should do for Eddie...sit down, enjoy the show and don't yell crap at him! I saw him for the first time opening for Ed last year, and I love his music.

Yes, thank you, very good direction.
  • Just from listening to a couple of Glen's songs....seems very similar to Ed in guitar style. Like double strumming - or whatever the technical term is for it - Like Ed will strum two, four, or maybe up to six super quick strums when the song would normally call for one strum.

Millworker is a great example of this for Ed. I noticed similar tendencies in a couple of Glen's songs. I really like the effect it has on some songs and I think it helps compensate a little for not having a full band. Gives it an extra little beat or something.

btw, thanks to all of you for the direction and recommendations.

  • I said this in another thread:

For Glen newbies I think the best albums to go to are:

Setlist (The Frames) - this is essentially a live Best-Of which showcases just how incredible The Frames are as a band - song tips: Revelate, Stars Are Underground & Santa Maria

Once Soundtrack (Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova) - this is Glen (and Marketa) stripped down and acoustic - song tips: When Your Mind's Made Up, Leave, Falling Slowly

For the Birds (The Frames) - this album has been best described to me as the 'heart' of The Frames - song tips: Lay Me Down, When the Heart Just Stops, Disappointed

Fitzcarraldo (The Frames) - really top notch songwriting - song tips: Say It To Me Now, Monument, Your Face.

Dance the Devil (The Frames) - just great, great tunes - song tips: Perfect Opening Line, Star, Star, God Bless Mom.

A great site for more live Frames and Glen stuff is:

Please do check out more Glen and The Frames - you will not be disappointed :D

Glen is AMAZING - make sure you get there early

always said, that's the one song he has that's the most PJ song he has...

just go in early and listen with open ears. Cos even if you don't, he'll blow your ears out. Just go in and listen. They raise each other games, ed and glen. They make each other try harder. it ends up being a wonderful night for whoever happens to be lucky enough to be there. It's magic if you're a fan of music at all. And when they sing together? oh sweet jesus, it's just meant to be. just go in early and listen. you'll be glad you did.

    that's all.

Glen Hansard is sooo good! I was happy to find out that he and Eddie are touring together. Glen can do anything, including a cover of the Britney Spears song "Everytime" and make it sound awesome:

He is so passionate, like Eddie, so I´m not surprised that they have become touring partners/friends :D , which is great! I will see Eddie in London on the 31st of July, and I think Glen will be there too. Can´t wait!!!! I also love this, when Glen sings Smile with Pearl Jam:

Glen Hansard will release his first solo album Rhythm and Repose on June 15th via Plateau records. Best known for his work with The Frames and The Swell Season, this will be Hansard's first new material since 2009's Strict Joy with The Swell Season.

The album, recorded and produced by Patrick Dillett and Thomas Bartlett, will also feature the musical talents of Brad Albetta, Ray Rizzo, Nico Muhly and half of Bruce Springsteen's current horn section. Swell Season collaborator Marketa Irglova has also contributed to the record.

Hansard is celebrated as the principal songwriter and vocalist/guitarist for The Frames. He garnered a reputation as not only an unparalleled front man, but also for his dedicated following and his grounded, real-life songs. Whether he’s busking the streets of Dublin, where he got his start, or at the Hollywood Bowl, Hansard is always earnest and in-the-moment.

Glen's new video and first official single from the new record is up:

    Glen Hansard
    'Love Don't Leave Me Waiting'
    APRIL 17, 2012

In his new video, Irish musician Glen Hansard goes tropical, finding warm bliss and plenty of sunshine in the clip for "Love Don't Leave Me Waiting." Reveals director Heidi Rose, "It's like going out on a trip to an exotic island: It's summer, it's full of hope, it's exciting, it's alive, it makes you want to dance and sing along. That is what Glen's 'Love Don't Leave Me Waiting' feels like. We shared this feeling with a group of young men and women, who very spontaneously and generously got involved in the making of our video." The Swell Season member and Frames frontman will release his solo debut, Rhythm and Reponse, on June 19th through Anti-.
