Lynndie England does not feel bad about Iraqi Treatment

she did not see combat. i am wondering how many of her friends in her unit saw combat. she was a guard at a pow prison.
she is brainwashed.
she was instututionalized that the prisoners were sub human.. that is what they do in the military. they dehumanize the enemy so its easier to kill them without thought or remorse. i am guessing it is easier to torture and abuse them without remorse as well..."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

But... I was never in the military or in any situation remotely like that, but I can't honestly fault her for feeling that way. When you see your friends getting shot and blown up everyday, I think it would be impossible not to develop an irrational hatred for those who you view are responsible for it. And while a lot of the people in those prisons were innocently rounded up, some of them were the ones responsible for IED's and stuff like that.
The soldiers were put in a terrible position, asked to do things that were impossible to do. So many of them, years later, are still struggling to cope with the things they've seen or things they've done. I can't imagine how screwed up of a situation that they were put in for months on end.

And chance did not dictate that Mayor John Mitchel should appoint to his Committe of Safety a thousand men that represent a fifth of the wealth of the United States..." A century later, little has changed, Lynddie England is nothing but a willing tool to protect the interests of the one percent, so I am not surprised by her ignorant comments.0 -

Would you also apply this logic to WWII and say that nobody except Hitler deserved punishment? The einsatzgruppen (execution squads) who roamed Eastern Europe murdering Jews and dumping their bodies in mass graves were all innocent of any crime simply because they happened to have superiors and obeyed orders?
Sorry, but the excuse that "I was just following orders" was dismissed at Nuremberg and holds no credibility whatsoever.
Lt. Calley should have been imprisoned for life for what he did at My Lai in Vietnam, and Lyndsey England should also be banged up for a long time.
If people who 'merely follow orders' are all innocent, then Americans should apply that same logic across the board and release every single prisoner from Guantanamo Bay and every prison in Iraq and Afghanistan today.
Or is it only American murderers and torturers who deserve this special consideration?0 -

if this case wre tried at the hague she would have gotten a real sentence, and the "following orders" defense would have been tossed right out of there..i guess you can make justice when you pull all the strings, and we pull all the strings..."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

It is important to understand that what Ali Shalal experienced was part of a routine process of torture, applied systematically to those arrested. Many of his companions in Abu Ghraib died as a result of torture or were executed upon their release so that they would not reveal the gruesome horrors and atrocities committed on the orders of the Bush administration. Also of significance, as confirmed by his testimony, was the fact that Israeli "civilians" were involved in assisting the US prison interrogators.0 -

Yep, just an excuse to do what they wanted anyhow.
Look, I'm not saying it's good, but this is hardly a big deal compared to the real issues. It's a symptom though, on both sides.hippiemom = goodness0
