Is this really stupid???

I haven't read the majority of this thread, so if this is redundant, please forgive me. Whether you use your vinyl or keep it on the shelf because you value them as ARTEFACTS is completely irrelevant to your question.
Only you can really decide what is right for you. Without preaching, here's some things you could consider as alternatives:
1. Downsizing your honeymoon-either place or length of stay.
2. Selling something else.
3. Consider your job: can the cards be paid off sensibly without selling anything?
4. What about considering requesting as much as folk can afford in money instead of wedding gifts?My Pearl Jam shows: 1 in 1995, 2 in 1998, 20 in 2003, 13 in 2006, 3 in 2007, 8 in 2008, 5 in 2009, 4 in 2010, 5 in 2012. EV: 8 in 2011, 1 in 2012. Brad: 1 in 1998, 1 in 2002.0 -

Would you seriously be interested?
Yes, I am serious. I actually agree with the 1/2 the board that basically says keep your collection and find a different way to cut cost or a different way to pay for your wedding. However, if you really want to sell I have been starting to look for a near complete vinyl set for my own. I would keep every piece - I am not a flipper.
I've got another way you can make some cash... I am looking for newletters 1,2,3 ad 5 to complete my newsletter collection. I will pay $50 each if you have any of them. Good luck!I'm trying to think of a really good signature.0 -
Find another way if you can. The only way Id part with my stuff is a medical emergency. Wedding? Pfffffffffft!
And as far as cutting costs, try doing a luncheon wedding. You can still have it at a fancy location, its much cheaper and you can go beer and wine only. The open bar is the budget killer. Go somewhere nice on the honeymoon, but it doesn't have to be $10,000 for bora bora tikki huts on the water!0 -

PM me when you finally decide to sell.0

I think you need to look to the future; in 5 years, will you regret not having the vinyl, or regret not taking the honeymoon you desired. Either option may cause regret, but the question is, which will cause less regret.0

Bahamas are overrated. I just got back from the Yucatan peninsula, it's much more appealing. Try Tulum, Mexico. Great beaches and boobies!0

Maybe it depends on how much you value PJ and what they are/mean to you?
Personally, I would never be able to get rid of my PJ stuff...
Maybe there are other options you can look into? Don't jump on it right away and explore other options/possibilities! Maybe there are other things you can sell.
It has nothing to do with how much you value PJ. It has a lot to do with how much you value your collection. And I would suggest that no collection of items, especially f they aren't fully utilised (not spun), is not worth making your bride happy on her honeymoon. Sure, if you can afford not to sell, do it. But if you kinda need that money to make sure the most memorable holiday of your life is that much easier... it's a given Bro!PJ - Sydney 1998; Sydney 2003; Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle 2006; Melbourne, Sydney 2009; Gold Coast, Melbourne, Sydney 2014.

Is there any other stuff in the house you could sell, other then the PJ? Maybe something she has that she doesn't use or know about anymore? Sell that stuff. :twisted:0

Best of luck and happiness to you and your new bride whatever your decision turns out being.0

That's great advise. I think I'm gonna wait and see what my tax return looks like and take it from there. If its small, stand by for a record setting (no pun intended) vinyl collection sale!0 -
Don't do it.
Those items will take much more money to replace later on in life. And long after the honeymoon is over and 3 years down the road comes along, it'll hit you like a sack of bricks that part of your history went away for air fare and tiki drinks. I don't presume to tell you what to do, but I personally feel sick when I realize I sold my spiderman vs venom statue. Not worth a ton of $ but my future son one day won't get that gifted to him.
Wouldn't it be worth it to give to one of your kids one day?
If' anything you should burn the audio from wax to digital, so you'll at least have a personal copy of the music.
Tough choice man. If it were me i'd pick up a part time gig at night hocking steaks and whatnot before I sold. It's be like me selling my PJ20 Day1 Ames Variant 10 years from now. I couldn't even imagine it.

And then there's that side of it... I feel like I have a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other. Right when I feel like my mind's made up someone else makes a great point on the other side of it. If nothing else, this sure makes for some great discussion! It's great to hear all the different perspectives from people who know what a tough choice this would be.
I do like tiki drinks though.0 -
How much is the set worth anyway?Mike_McQ0

That's like an inheritance ..lol. Tough choice. Can I ask if you were planning on ever opening them to listen, and how much does the value go down if/when their opened?
Reason I ask is if the value drops only a little, then have the vinyl ripped to digital and you can still have a small memory. You'll get close to that saturated good thick vinyl sound on digital, and you can still sell to a vinyl collector who knows their still in quality shape. Or the potential buyer can rip to digital for you on his/her end.
Just throwing out some options. Sounds funny, but I know a guy who goes to yard sales during the week, then flips the merch at a Sunday Flea Market for 4 and 5 times the original yard sale prices. I'm just saying if you're tight on holding the vinyl, i'd look for any way to hustle the money some other way. At least then you're wife sill see's how much the audio means to you, and she'll appreciate the effort.
Maybe you and her can meet half way with other items to sell?
