An update from Neil's Facebook page:
The release date for 'Americana' - the new Neil Young & Crazy Horse album - has just been announced for June 5th! Head over to http://wbr.fm/GzvEdM for the full tracklisting, and stay tuned to hear the first song from the album!

An album of old American folk tunes may not be what we were expecting after the 38-minute jam that was on his website but it should be interesting :)
“Do not postpone happiness”
(Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”
(Tim Rogers)

I honestly checked the date to make sure the article wasn't an April Fools joke when I saw the tracklist. If anyone can pull it off with a straight face, it'd be these guys.

    So the tracklist is:

    "Oh Susannah"
    "Clementine
"
    "Tom Dooley"
    "
Gallows Pole
"
    "Get A Job
"
    "Travel On
"
    "High Flyin’ Bird
"
"She’ll Be Comin ’Round The Mountain"
    "This Land Is Your Land
"
    "Wayfarin’ Stranger
"
    "God Save The Queen"

God Save the Queen? Please tell me they threw in a Sex Pistols cover. That would be a fantastic, off the wall choice for Neil. Not familiar w/ a traditional americana song by that name.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Crap - Apparently it's the British National Anthem that he included. Not the Sex Pistols. Sounds like My Country Tis of Thee (for us folks on the US side of the pond). Wonder if he'll use the british lyrics or the US.

Not off the wall for Neil at all. "The King is gone but he's not forgotten...This is the story of Johnny Rotten..." However, I assume it is the Canadian Anthem version, as opposed to the Pistols version ;)

Definitely. Neil's often expressed his appreciation for punk- even to the point of being a punk Godfather.

I hope these guys to a tour to back this album. Oh, to hear Neil say, once again, "Smell the horse of this one!"

OH GOD, Gallow's Pole...one of my all-time favorite songs. This just sold me and I'm a diehard of the Zeppelin version although this one has to be just as good if not better. I'm there. Count me in.

Alright let's not get carried away here.

Did Johnny Cash ever do Gallows Pole? Would've been right up his alley.

He probably did at some point, though I'm not sure...it's derived from an old Leadbelly song, so tons of folks have probably performed it at one time or another.

I find it interesting that Stephen Stills provides vocals on the album - word seemed to be he was pretty p*ssed off with Neil after the cancelled/postponed/whatever Buffalo Springfield reunion... And Neil's reason then was because he was writing an autobiography... Now he's working on music again!

Yeah, I thought it was a "traditional" song.

Anybody expecting traditional versions of old folk tunes is in for a pleasant surprise - the world's best garage band is back and sounding fucking great!
