I feel the same way. So I thought, why not drive up to Montreal this weekend. I am sure we can get 10C seats at the party. Feel like taking a road trip with a complete stranger that shares your post EV depression? I really think I am going to do it.
Your a real fan... if i wasnt on crutches with a bad foot id head to NYC tomorrow for sure
Yes, Arc was like a religious experience. Man of the Hour was more moving than most times, for me anyway, ad I loved all of Ed's banter. I also love the intimacy and 'magic' of he Opera House, but how about Liam Finn on Society, and him and Eliza on Hard Sun? With that bright beach backdrop? That ending was totally exhilarating.
And a great big thank to William for the great tix!
it makes much more sense
to live in the present tense
Liam WAS awesome! I've got to catch him when he does his tour in October. My friend had described him "he kind of reminds me of Animal from the Muppets", which is ridiculously apt. Another friend had seem him several times at SXSW and said she loved him more each time she saw him. He is hugely talented and really not at all what I expected. Loved the harmonies he and Ed shared on Society.
RageJoe, I think we may have been next to you -- the confusion over the seat number because of the solo ticket in our row? If so, hi again! And there is definitely vid of this show, the guy in front of me definitely had some sort of camera on his glasses. I was the slightly stoned brunette.
My favorite moments were Sometimes/Masters of War/Forever Young/ARC!!!!/Hard Sun. It was so surreal because my first show ever was Toronto 1996 with the same group of women I was with this past weekend. Absolutely amazing what incredible friendships this band has fostered.
I definitely got weepy a few times.
My question -- does Ed play banjo? There was a banjo on stage before Liam came out to join him. I was wondering if maybe Liam was too stoned to pick out another tune with him and that's why it disappeared. Anyone know?
Thanks!

hmm...jecica...you are tempting me. I was gonna go to chicago but the plane fares are insane. Shoot me a pm.
There were moments where I just sat there, dumbfounded. Being so close, and watching Ed play his heart out. Being such an intimate setting, the music being so clear. It was phenomenal.
On Friday night, I looked over at my wife during MOTH, and she had tears going down her face. She's not even that big of a fan. She cried again during It's Just a Broken Heart. She lost it again on Saturday night.
What's more funny, is that she was telling my friend and his wife about this when we got back to their house, and my buddy's wife said that she started crying during Walking the Cow!
Just a very surreal couple of nights. In some ways, it's much better than a full PJ show.

I think he uses the banjo for If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out. For some reason, he didn't get around to playing it

Me, too. I just this morning decided I'm making the drive up to Montreal if I can get my hands on a ticket.
Saturday's show was so surreal for me, as others have said.

I loved when he told the audience that there was magic in the air at the Opera House. That no matter what they yelled out, all he could hear on stage was 'I am an idiot " That was classic. Later some idiot in the balcony yelled out " I am an idiot " Ed said ... see.. I told you , then he laughed !!
Best moment of the show for me ..hilarious..

Ya the banjo was for If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out which was on the setlist but crossed out. Long Road and Picture in A Frame were also crossed off.
Let My Love Open the Door was supposed to be played before Hard Sun but he never got around to it.
Growin Up wasn't on the setlist but was played anyway so it must have bumped one of those songs off.
I'm assuming its similar to night 1, but if someone can let the rest of us know if anything different was played the second night or if anything on night 1 was NOT played at night 2...that would be awesome.

dont have whole setlist... this is what i got...
set: walking the cow, trouble, i am mine, dead man, man of the hour, sometimes, masters of war, setting forth, guranteed, no ceiling, far behind, rise, millworker ( at this point i dont know the order, but here is the rest of what he played ) half of goodbye,WISHLIST,forever young, drifting, youve got to hide your love away, porch
encore: dont be shy, growin up,society, no more, arc
encore 2: hard sun
I may be missing one or 2 songs but i think i got it all...
It was a great night! I came straight from the airport in Providence, RI - arriving at 6:30 p.m. and driving as fast a legally possible, not knowing where in the heck I was going...but I ended up in downtown Boston...found the Boston Opera House and parked...
I saw about 3 songs of Liam Finn. I had only $6 in cash...enough for 1 beer...I had front row mezz seats...thanks tickets now (I think it was)... 1 ticket available which helped!
I really enjoyed Eddie's show! It was an intimate show...absent some "I am an idiot" yells from the crowd...it was almost like sitting around (somewhere...living room....studio) listening to Ed jam, hang out and share his stories and sense of humor! It was great! I actually can't express what I am trying to say...I was so glad I was able to come out for the show! My first time in Boston!!! (The Obama thing probably cracked me up the most...)
I flew over from Scotland to see this show with my Dad. Only got home yesterday and i really must express some appreciation for this show. We had good seats in the mezz area. I knew every song. My dad who was a casual fan was amazed by the covers he did, pointing out that his renditions of 'trouble' and 'millworker' were now rightly his own. I had brought a copy of 'you can't be neutral on a moving train' with me to Boston and was amazed when Ed announced Howard Zinn himself was in the crowd. Everyone cheered loudly for their historian and i really enjoyed reading the rest of that book.
Great moments include 'Forever Young' which was dedicated to a fan who had written a letter (congrats), 'Sometimes' which seemed both a great surprise and a superior version and the endorsement of Obama for 2008. It was very surreal and i felt lucky to be there. Very memorable night.
Eddie just delivers such an amazing energy and the way that he handles the crowd is great. He makes everyone feel involved and gets the crowd to sing along.
My brother and I were sitting in the row directly in front of Theo and Howard Zinn. I noticed Theo when he got to his seat, shook his hand, then my brother said something like, "Hey Theo, nice disguise". And his response was, "Not nice enough, I guess". It was pretty funny.
Howard was very gracious. I mentioned that I read some of his stuff and thought that it was great how he came on stage at the Garden (Boston) in 2004 and said "Stop the war".
I had a few drinks before the show, so I probably acted a little too excited to see both of these guys, but they were cool to us. Thanks 10C for hooking me up (once again). I knew we had good seats when those two guys are sitting in the row behind us---my brother and I got a kick out that.
And of course Eddie played wonderfully. Thanks for so many memories--over the years--that goes out to Ed (and the band) and the Ten Club.

Sat in the same row as you if you were 1 in front of them, i was on the aisle... the other aisle... not the aisle howard and theo were on
Cool...you must have been in the center section, we were right-center, directly in front of them---in fact, I believe Howard Zinn had the same seat number as me, just one row back. My brother and I were Orchestra RC, Row E, seats 6 and 8. What a great time!!!
Both nights hit me hard. The man's voice transcends everything for me. It even transcended the meatheads yelling for "Jeremy", etc. Both Nights were ethereal for me.
Best moments:
Night 1: Millworker, WOW! Never heard this one and Ed nailed it. Brought tears to my eyes.
Night 1: Wishlist, WOW!! Awesome version. Chills went up my spine.
Night 2: Sometimes: His voices always sounds great on this, but the opera house took it someplace else.
Night 2: Masters of War: Vicious and Beautiful!
Both Nights: Arc!!! Both nights brought me to tears. So primal and beautiful.
