I'm trying to recall the case that was all over the news last summer / fall _ very similar, but I don't think it was in Morocco.
I can't even begin to understand the kind of thinking that supports this viewpoint. Or society that institutes it as a law.15 years of sharks 06/30/08 (MA), 05/17/10 (Boston), 09/03/11 (Alpine Valley), 09/04/11 (Alpine Valley), 09/30/12 (Missoula), 07/19/13 (Wrigley), 10/15/13 (Worcester), 10/16/13 (Worcester), 10/25/13 (Hartford), 12/4/13 (Vancouver), 12/6/13 (Seattle), 6/26/14 (Berlin), 6/28/14 (Stockholm), 10/16/14 (Detroit)0 -

I have to disagree, if a woman wants to protect herself she most certainly can. Women are play an intregal part in this world it only appears that it's a man's. That is according to the one and only James Brown.

well played

This is obviously ridiculous, as is somehow linking this to Santorum  (I know that wasn't you).
This is a completely stupid "tradition" that once again shows why ruling via religious doctrine is not only silly, but dangerous. Does that make all Moroccan's bad? Absolutely not. Just the ruling folks that have not seen fit to change something so obviously amoral because of some religious belief.
Hopefully, this poor little girl did not die in vain, and there is a holiday in her honor in Morocco some day (not that I would ever know). So sad.Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.0 -

hey ... if some people can boycott french products because they don't want to bomb innocent people ... i should be able to boycott a country that still employs a judicial system that would force this girl down this path ...
how do you hope to constitute change in morocco then? ... boycotts and impacts to the economy are known to work ...0 -

Oh. You can do whatever you want. Boycott Morocco. I don't care. I actually thought you were being facetious and trying to make a comment about how this type of rule ends up in racially motivated tirades. So, my bad on the interpretation.
Unfortunately, boycotts don't work on countries like that because it winds up hurting the general populace, some (maybe many) of who may not agree with current policy. The leaders will still get theirs.
But, do what you want.
And boycotting France is a good policy all around. No add'l reasons needed.Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.0 -

I understand that this law (which is also mentioned in the Old Testament!) is rarely applied in Morocco. It is ancient and, it would seem, difficult to call upon as both families need to agree. This does not happen often and, if it does, it will mainly be amongst the less educated or those living in more remote areas.
This said, even once is one time too many, whether this marriage has as tragic endings as this one. What is needed (and an ongoing 'project') is education, education, education. Whilst women can be 'nothing' in this country, they also hold positions of power or influence and are working very hard to change the situation of women there (albeit they also need to 'comply' to certain rules/tradition, whether of behaviour, modesty etc.).
My friend Hamida (who is moroccan) is not only a judge in Belgium but also a women's rights advocate/family lawyer in Morocco. Foundations are being laid, but it's a very, very difficult road ahead - EDUCATION! Of women AND men!0 -

not to be mean but did he sing that while he beat her :?
seems terribly hypocritical words for what he has been accused of
because a real man appreciates women as his words elude to
but actions do not
I see your point though and
I hope you see it is a man's world still
women need the help of men to change that here and abroad0 -

Well I don't see it as a man's world necessarily, or maybe I'm just around more women who have been successful without ever needing any help from a man.
