hell, on the college and high school level, as well . . not for money maybe but the same intentions
I don't know about that. It might, but my experience growing up was that this wasn't something coached, it was in fact punished. They wanted you to be physical, it's part of the game, but if a coach suspected you were trying to hurt somebody you were in deep shit. In middle school two kids got kicked off the team because they were jawing about how they were going to try and hurt a kid on the other team during a game we were losing. And in high school there were 3 instances I can remember in which kids were not allowed to play for several games because of overly aggressive and potentially dangerous shots they took.
At that level it was my experience that the coaches took their role as educator as seriously as the game, and were actually concerned with safety, as we were kids. On the college and pro level where it's more of a business I'm sure they probably don't give a shit though.
"See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"
and
it may be the rule that this shit doesn't happen in high schools, but it happens

Oh, I'm sure it happens, I would imagine (I don't know for sure) that when it happens it is the exception and not the rule. I'm from Texas, where High School Football is HUGE, and people take it very seriously, but I still never experienced any type of headhunting or bounties, and unsportsmanlike conduct was punished. At my school we weren't even allowed to spike the football, if you did you'd get run in practice until you puked.

not arguing
the exception for sure

I knew you weren't arguing. As for Wolf, I'm sure he was "shocked" in the same sense that all the sports writers were "shocked" over steroids in baseball. Everybody knew. They're just shocked it was exposed.
Like they thought this was natural

In other breaking news, it turns out that grass is green and the sky is blue.
this kind of stuff has been happening since the beginning of the game.
Who in this picture has three Super Bowl rings and a HOF ring?
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

this sums it up kind of nicely...
I read that earlier in the week. I agree it did sum it up nicely.
