I can't think how anyone who was rational or educated could argue with that
I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!

    Everybody's too busy smoking?

I only miss cigarettes when I dream about them, but when I do I wake up thinking for sure I've just had a smoke...

I'm sorry- where were we? Ah yes, a serious discussion...

  • I don't smoke and never have, but that's such an absurd law to want to pass that it makes me wonder about the mental state of the person who introduced it in the first place. Smoking outside on your own property really shouldn't affect your neighbors even if your homes are close together. There is plenty of time for the smoke to spread out in the air by the time it reaches a nieghbor even if the wind is blowing in their direction. Following that logic, cooking on a grill should be banned because the smoke can blow into someone else's yard. Think about how much smoke comes out of a charcoal grill but how often do you ever see a full-on cloud of smoke blow into someone else's yard from it? Now look at how much smaller a cigarette is compared to a grill and tell me how its smoke is going to bother you or affect your health in a way that's worse than the smoke from burning charcoal.

Also, if they ban smoking outside your house will they also ban smoking inside your house with the window open? After all, the smoke will escape out the window and follow the wind just the same as if you were standing outside the window. And what if you are on a 2nd-floor deck? Is is ok to smoke up there or will they worry that the smoke might fall to the ground?

Yeah Godfather, I do the same thing. Respect peoples space and if someone is walking by me I wait to take a drag so I'm not blowing smoke in their face. When I'm done I find a garbage can to throw the butt into.

  • If the people don't want smoke in their house, why don't they close the windows and run the air-conditioning. Oh that's right, then somebody would complain about the ozone layer. Some people need to get a life. They should complain to the government who are making big bucks on taxes, to stop making the poison sticks. Funny how the governments waste tons of cash on non-smoking campaigns yet they can't stop making the things.

The American government doesn't exactly have a good track record when it comes to prohibition. Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs out there. If cigarettes were outlawed, you'd just have another illegal drug trade on your hands... a serious smuggling issue, as everyone acquires cigarettes from all the countries in the world where they are still legal. Banning cigarettes makes about as much sense as banning alcohol would. None.

    Interesting bit of irony there!

Well, at least we can't blame this one on Obama. He's been known to light up from time to time. 8-)

Obama has supported over regulation of tobacco.....

this bill isnt all bad but there is some bad stuff in it..... so it is a bad bill.

The US Supreme Court has already ruled part of it unconstitutional....

Im not blaming the outdoor ban on him....but he's not innocent in this realm either.

Obama has nothing to do with this bill and my inclusion of his name in this thread wasn't meant to be taken very seriously. The Rocklin bill started out as a local issue and not really one worthy of national attention.
