Where would we be without the mighty Sabs? I have owned every MK1 Sab's album on vinyl, cassette and cd and there's not a day that goes by that I don't hear their influence somewhere. How the four individuals gelled and created such an innovative style of music still amazes me. They had a very organic and spontanious approach to songwriting and it still sounds remarkably fresh today. Much copied, never bettered! I am on a new appreciation surge right now and it really was the perfect soundtrack to my youth. There must be some admirers and possibly even haters here? What's your view, favourite songs, album, etc?

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath always been my fave.
When we say Black Sabbath we are only talking about the real Sabbath, so yeah 1970-1979.
I DON'T THINK ANY PJ SONG IS BETTER THAN THE 19 MIN VERSION OF WICKED WORLD ON LIVE AT LAST
I can't get past hearing Tony Iommi in one ear and Geezer Butler in the other both going off on one for sheer listening pleasure. Like you say, stoner/blues rock and not really that heavy when you listen now. They really knew how to jam and I love the production and how it captured the era. I was tempted to drop PJ in Manchester for a Sunday Download ticket but decided against it in the end.

Tony's guitar tone was so raw and amazing back then, sounded so bloody great.
Yeah good choice, looks like it's gonna be 3/4 of Sabbath so won't count.
One of my most listened to records of all time is a Sabbath record. Pretty cool when I think that Paranoid came out about 4 years before I was born and that none of my direct musical influences (dad, bro) introduced me to it. Sort of stumbled upon it myself as a youngster and was totally blown away. Damn, that is a magical record.

I can't admit it....
no, look away....
......I've never listened to Sabbath. Like, I barely know any of their stuff. I know, it's a shame. However, I recently acquired their first 5 albums with the intention to spend some time getting to know them. Like the grandpa I never met. I do worry that though they were heavy and groundbreaking 40 years ago, today I might not feel the power, or the weight. I'm hoping to at least get an appreciation for Iommi's riff catalog.
If it bores me I'll just throw in some Queens.
Agreed. When I heard that for the first time is was hair standing on the back of my neck. I was looking at the album cover at the time too which makes it even more atmospheric.

Three really, really wicked tunes among all their 'bigger' tunes.
Have seen Ozzy every chance I've had. Loved it when they have played the Sabbath tunes!
Hearing the Sabbath songs was always the highlight of an Ozzy show. I think I've seen him play Paranoid, Iron Man, Children Of The Grave, War Pigs, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Sweet Leaf and Symptom Of The Universe. Zakk Wylde always did a good job but the original solos are hard to beat despite Zakk's technical brilliance.

Listening(squeal)to Zakk(squeal)(squeal) Wylde(squeal) play guitar(squeal) is(squeal)(squeal)(squeal) like(squeal)reading this sentence.
Awesome player early on and on the studio stuff outside of Black Rain, but he really jumped the shark as a player his last few years with Ozzy.
Another album that I got Sabbath fix early on was Speak of the Devil. Brad Gillis was the guitarist for that.

Indeed he did! I was lucky enough to see Dio, only once, on the Holy Diver anniversary tour in 2005. An absolutely brilliant night. I was supposed to see Heaven and Hell headline High Voltage in 2010 but we all know what happened.
Sabbath though, I love the first four and can't pick, but if I had to I think I'd go with 4. It's the one I play most, Supernaught was the first Sabbath tune I remember hearing and it registering, course I'd heard War Pigs and Paranoid etc but that came on the radio late one night and blew my mind.
I'd be all over a ticket for this tour but if it's going to be 3/4 only then I'll give it a miss. Someone should lock Sharon Osbourne in a padded room until the summer is over.

I saw them in 1978 at MSG with Van Halen opening up, then again in 1980 with Dio on vocals on the Heaven and Hell tour. Both were great shows.
I could listen to any Sabbath album -- favorites are: Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Vol 4, Master of Reality, Paranoid and Heaven and Hell.

That live version of Wicked World is great.
My faves: The Warning, Faries Wear Boots, Rat Salaad(?)
I had an older sister who dumped the Sabbath germ on me when I was about 8 years old. The debut LP through "Sabotage" set some serious standards and every heavy rock band that has followed them owes a debt of gratitude.
As monumental as the band was, the end of the Ozzy/Sabbath era was inevitable. Witnessing Van Halen kick Sabbath's ass as an opening act pretty much said it all. I saw a couple of BS/VH shows during that tour and really, Sabbath had hit boring-old-fart-rock-God status with a messed up Ozzy actually sitting in an easy chair off to stage left during the instrumental solos.
Was Sabbath really Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio? Fuck yes! "Live Evil" aside, just check out the three albums RJD did with Sabbath. Pris-fucking-stine metal, friends. Of special note, do not ignore "Dehumanizer," classic Sabbath regardless of who is behind the mic. Proof? "After All (The Dead.)" Sabbath featuring Dio was STELLAR! Oh yeah, even "Born Again," with it's weird production and Ian Gillan vocals still shoves the metal up your ass.
Still, some fucked up duds in the Sabbath cannon. The Ozzy led "Technical Ecstasy" and "Never Say Die." Bleh. Later years brought "Seventh Star" and "TYR," both of which pretty much induced sleep, while "Headless Cross" and "Eternal Idol" rocked out more than most people even knew. Or even cared to know. Then there was this shitty mess of an album called "Forbidden" around '95. Don't even go there.
Cut to the live "Reunion" recording with the original Sab line up. Bless their black hearts, they didn't even speed up the shit up. Classic durge via the masters.
Future Sabbath seems iffy. No Bill Ward? Fuck that. Iommi's illness does not bode well, and Ozzy SO straddles the line between relevant and rediculous that it's anyones guess.
All in all, good Sabbath out-weights bad Sabbath. As the OP stated, where would we be without them?
I listened to them every single day throughout my teens and I still listen to them really regularly.
I still get high on the riffs and the musicianship, hugely, hugely talented men,I never saw them as metal, they had a depth of the heavier end of blues for me like no other band of that time.Their influence is heard in so much music even today.
I never thought RJD would pull it of when Ozzy was gone but I think Heaven and Hell is a good album. But Black Sabbath and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath still definitely get me for the atmosphere and the riffs that make my mouth water listening to them.
