Does anyone here frequent their fan club message board as well? Does PJ get beat up there as regularly as DMB does here?

I can't go to the warehouse boards anymore, way too clique-y. But I took a party bus to the Caravan and on our way there the guy that put it together announced that they would be doing the same thing for PJ20. Just about everyone on the bus started booing. Not sure where all the hate comes from on both sides to be honest.

does it drive all the dmb haters mad that mike & stefan lessard (dmb bassist) done some soundtrack work together? dmb is a badass fucking band. dave is a genious as far as songwriting goes, and guitar playing.
they're in the upper realm as far as my favorite bands go. pearl jam is my favorite, obviously, but dmb is in my top 10 easily.

I'm looking for the sarcasm in the bolded part. Dave Matthews is far from a genius when it comes to playing the guitar. As for his songwriting, his genius and creativity left the building a long time ago as well.

i do enjoy their music. big whisky & the groogrux king was a superior record to.... however, on that note, i do find their crowds to be sometimes obnoxious. the last time i saw dmb, the drunken angry frat boys trying to pick up girls that had no interest in them sickened me. you don't really see that at pearl jam shows. dave did fall off for awhile..a long while. the lillywhite album was his best until big whisky. stand up had moments, but fell short. i credit them becoming a great band again to tim reynolds. say what you want, that dude is badass. dave invented the way he plays. this isn't the other music thread, though,so i'll leave it there.

i don't want pearl jam or dmb to do anything alike because too many people get up in arms about the 2 bands. i don't get it. if pearl jam hadn't been boycotting ticketmaster, would dmb even be where they're at now? i highly doubt it. they've really never been big in europe (as far as i can tell). it's nice to see that pearl jam doesn't get as much contempt as dmb does, nowadays. it used to be i told people that i'm a pj fan & i got ten & vs. are good. now, it's yeah, they're cool. i'm wary of who i admit i'm a dmb fan to, though. some of their crowd leaves much to be desired. i would have liked to have seen pj do more than 1 weekend, though. maybe after europe, who knows...

I don't like DMB and don't care if people do, it's just not my cup of tea. I just don't want PJ to do anything the way DMB does it. Sorry.

Couldn't have said it any better myself actually. DMB just isn't for me, nor do I want PJ to follow suit after DMB in any way.

What the hell does it matter if it meant PJ playing more shows and getting more fans involved in their anniversary celebration? I went to Alpine, which was awesome, but what DMB did for their celebration seems a fuckload cooler than what PJ did(music obviously aside).

I prefer Pearl Jam doing the complete opposite of DMB

So you wouldn't want PJ to tour every summer???

Well dmb plays music, so i guess they should start there and not play music, fucking dumb comment. Ya know, if pj annouced they were playing 4 weekend for 3 nights on the east coast, midwest, and west coast, and not repeating a song to boot, everyone would be pumped. Just cuz i mention that dmb did it everyone gets all defensive and shit. Some Pj fans have some fucking inferiority complex when it comes to dmb, i dont get it.

  • This is ridiculous. Band plays 3 nights on a row, don't repeat a song, people can camp and there are people that are saying don't be like that?

Eddie and boys would says that the same ideological stubbornness that makes our whole political system suck. Give me a break.

Dave Matthews is not in my top ten but you cannot deny he and his bandmates' talent. And doing the same thing as the DMB caravan would be a cool thing. No?? You are full of it.

I went to NYC, but only one night. I had plans for the rescheduled dates and I was sooooo bummin I missed them.
Very well planned and a total blast.

I like DMB but the fans do seriously suck. Too young and way to many out of control drinkers. I had unreal seats in Hartford 2010 and the drunk girls next to us fell asleep 3 songs in. I mean who does that? Assh*les, thats who.

I would have loved if they did Caravans again this summer. I would go in a heartbeat. There has been a rumor floating around of them doing it again in AC.

So yes, I would totally enjoy if Pearl Jam did this. And hope to hell they kinda follow the same ticketing system.
If your a DMB fan get ready...tour announcement maybe as early as tomorrow :D

Just my opinion, but I would have loved if PJ did a caravan thing ala DMB and I am not a fan of DMB, even though I can respect the small portion of their catalog that I have heard.

I know the PJ20 was an unreal experience, one that I still regret missing, but the Alpine Valley thing made it very inconvenient for what I will assume was the majority of PJ fans, even the ones that went.

As per the drunks at DMB shows, if you say you've never seen anyone fall over drunk at a PJ show you are either A. Lying or B. Have never been to a show......

Stop with all the hating, it makes you look silly..

really? Have you ever been to a DMB show?

In my 25 Pearl Jam shows I have never seen the likes of it.

There's no hate, just true fact.

  • First day at Alpine. Raining all afternoon. Guys next to us drinking a handle of Jack with a bunch of guys and girls. When we finally headed into the venue for QOTSA, he stand. His friends put him in the car and he missed the entire show.

Shit happens at PJ shows too.

yes, shit does happen at Pearl Jam shows, I never said it didn't

but have you ever been to a Pearl Jam 2 night run where there were 173 ambulance calls? I haven't.

back to the point, the festival type thing is a great idea.

Pretty law abiding group of fans we are. Here's the police report from PJ20

That's not to say there aren't plenty of boneheaded douchers at PJ shows. Never been to a DMB show, but PJ pretty easily has the highest amount of fratboy types that supposedly plague DMB shows out of the bands I've caught. I could easily see the cops waving their hard-ons at just about any given concert like at the DMB show referenced above.

Seen plenty of over drunk, obnoxious schumcky types at about all the shows I've been to.

4 destination weekend over the summer.
3 nights of shows each weekend without repeating a song.
Dave and Time during the day.

Imagine if PJ did this? Three nights, no repeats and Ed solo during the day...

I Suppose it wouldn't be too Bad if you could $~~AFFORD~~$ to go to ALL 3 Nights!... Other then that PJ do things just Fine!
  • I can't stand anything DMB put out the after their first few albums except for Gru Grux which I thought was actually pretty good. While I loveeee ripping hardcore DMB fans I do have to admit that it would be awesome if they toured as much as Dave did every year.

And Dave does put on a good show, you just have to take it for what it is...more of a party and something to do unlike a PJ concert where we hang on every song and dissect every detail. While I hate to admit it, Carter is one of the best drummers out there...he absolutely tears it up. Have to give it up to him, love him or hate him.

Ticket prices for Caravan were $195 for 3-Day GA pass. Though it does seem like a lot on the surface, that comes out to $65 a night, less than you'd pay to see DMB alone! Props to DMB for making that amazing weekend affordable. (Not pissing on PJ, though, they of course priced PJ20 well, I thought!)
