one of my favorite things about radiohead is their ability to make innovative experimental music, thats still melodic.

Something like Kid A the actual song. Thoms voice distorted, but its the most gorgeous melody ever, that bell sounding thing.

Wait till you listen to Amnesiac, and songs like Packt like Sardines, Pulk Pull, Like Spinning Plates, or from Hail to the Theif songs like Backdrifts, or Where I End and You begin.

welcome aboard the radiohead train my friend! Its all downhill from here! Seriously though, it is life changing to listen to Kid A or OK Computer or any of their albums for the first time, and then you sort of judge other bands by the unbelieveable standards of radiohead. Why cant other bands change their sound or stick their neck out like radiohead has done? there is a reason many of their albums were in the top 10 of just about every top albums of the 2000's list, and pretty much every list had kid a at number 1. From OK computer on, they havent made a single bad album. Even King of Limbs which isnt as highly acclaimed as the others is still pretty damn amazing.

i definitely think when the world burns away, the sun burns the earth and explodes, aliens will wonder what was planet earth. what were humans.

and i think to understand modern capitalistic globalized society in the late 90's and 2000's, the ennui, the desolation, the people searching for connection in a digital world, i think you have to listen to radiohead.

They deserve all the praise and hype and acclaim they recieve. As i said, they are my pick for 2nd most important band of our generation behind only nirvana.

Oh and Thom has a solo record, which is pretty damn good as well, but you may want to listen to the rest of their dischography proper before listening to that. Its very electronic, beat based.

  • Just wait until you listen to In Rainbows. Thats the one from 2007. If you like the experimental innovative radiohead songs, In Rainbows may not be your cup of tea, but it may be my favorite Radiohead album. It threw alot of people including myself for a loop. I expected, they were going to make another bizaare experimental electronic sounding album, and they instead on In Rainbows, made their most accessible, straightforward and basic sounding album but its still mindblowing stuff, just quieter, and less Kid A like

i think thats their defining trait. Every single album they make, they make something the complete opposite of what critics and fans expect and sometimes want. They are true artists. You never know what a new radiohead album will sound like. King of Limbs i think was way less acclaimed than the other albums, the other albums getting praise akin to some religious document or something, but King of Limbs was less forward thinking than people expected it to be. And i think thats why alot of people were disappointed. King of Limbs is damn good, but it isnt 10 steps ahead of other bands. they are influenced on the album by the big bands of the moment, Bon Iver, James Blake, How to Dress Well, Aphex Twin, Flying Lotus.

Kid A will change your life... First time I listened to it I thought I was on a different planet haha

Know what you mean. Just bought it this morning and am listening to it for the third time already. Knowing me, I'll have all of their albums within the next few weeks. Thanks everyone for helping me out regarding this band, I cant get enough of them at the moment and it sounds like they're great live. My favourite genre of music is (non-commercial) alternative, and this band fits the bill in every way. I love innovative and different stuff like this, so Kid A is definitely doing it for me. I seriously hope they come out to Australia later on this year as rumoured. I'm envious of Jervis having seen them live 6 times, I wish I'd taken notice of them earlier but guess it's never too late. Not that they've toured Australia all that often in the past. Thanks also to the posters who posted the YouTube links, this band are really innovative and different - an acquired taste really but I'm just loving them more and more! 'e :)
Kid A blows my mind every time i listen to it.. i didnt hear they were rumored for an australian tour later this year!!!!! will defianitly check them out melbourne and sydney shows!!! if you get the chance to get kid a on vinyl i suggest you do it on a good record player it sounds absolutly incredible

I saw them on the OK Computer tour, they were pretty incredible. Not sure I would go see them again now, they might play King Of Limbs front to back or something, and that would SUCK

I think you're being sarcastic (forget which side of the fence you were on...) but even if they play the whole album it's just a half hour, leaving 90 minutes or so for other stuff. ;)

I'd go and see them no matter what albums they happen to be playing at the time. In fact they're so good I'll consider going interstate to see them, and I've never been interstate for a band other than PJ. Cant stop listening to their music, I've bought another 2 albums of theirs since I started this thread and love everything I hear. :)

Yeah, and they're like PJ in other areas too. Do a lot of stuff to save the environment etc, dont want to sell out as in have their music used in advertising etc. I see many similarities between the two bands even though their music is totally different.

Ha, no sarcasm, King Of Limbs mostly blows (my opinion of course :P )

Fair enough if you dont like it. Admittedly, it's taken me longer to get used to than their other albums. However, I do love Lotus Flower. Managed to get tickets to their 2 Melbourne concerts today, woot! Only got impeded view for the first concert, better for the second but couldnt get GA at all no matter how many attempts I made. Excited to be seeing them live for the first time, roll on November! :D
