Who's seen this band live and are they any good? They've really grown on me lately and I'd like to see them live but haven't heard much about what they're like in concert. Do they mix up their setlists and how long do they play for, roughly? Also, what album should I get after Ok Computer and The Bends, cos they're the only 2 I have at the moment. Thanks in advance.....

I saw them about 8 years ago, and I do remember enjoying the concert. I haven't listened to their music in a long time though and I'm not sure what their live performances have been like recently.

Maybe check out some live clips on youtube to give yourself an idea. :)

Seen them live twice - amazing both times. You think their newer stuff shouldn't work in a big arena venue, but it does.

    Pyramid Song FTW.

They were pretty cool live. They change up their setlists a decent amount but they don't wipe it clean every night. You can count on hearing all of the album they're touring on.

I'd go with Hail To The Thief. It rounds out my Radiohead top 3 with the 2 that you have.
  • Going to see them in Houston in March! It will be my first time, but am highly anticipating it! All suggustions are good as far as the next Radiohead step. I would personally say just stay in release order so you can hear there progressions and where they are as a band, very much like Pearl Jam. It's hard to jump around from era to era (album to album) and be able to fully grasp the album and context as a whole. That being said, you can't go wrong with whatever you choose! :D Welcome to the fold ;)
  • Seen them 5 times since the OK Computer tour and every show was exceptional. The tent shows in 2000 (KId A) being the best.
They're very similar to Pearl Jam in that they change the setlist every night and you really could get anything from the "hits" right through to the most obscure B sides. Sets are usually between 17 and 23 songs though they have been known to play longer.
Kid A may be something of a shock if you only know OK Computer and The Bends. In Rainbows might be a good one to follow up with though it's not that similar to either of the 2 you have but it does have guitars on it - Kid A has very little guitar work. That said Kid A is a groundbreaking album and well worth checking out.

Agree to disagree. Had I listened to the albums in consecutive order, I likely would have stopped pretty early on. That being said, I love them all except Pablo Honey, and consider Kid A and In Rainbows to be my favourites.

  • March 1 in Atlanta. I can't wait, been wanting to see them live for years! Similar to PJ, they just don't come down south all that often.

BTW, how about a southern tour PJ!!

If I were you, I'd go get the Best Of and judge for yourself, personally my fave album is The Bends and fave track is Karma Police, they are great live and really should not be missed, Kid A and Amnesiac are wigged out bleepy albums (which not a bad thing, the bleepy stuff works well live).

They are excellent to see perform live.
  • they do change up the setlist from night to night. but they typically dont play much from the bends, pablo honey and those albums. they play for about 2 hours. when i saw them in 06, they went on at about 830 or so, and were done by 1030. they are the type of band that leaves you wanting more, in a good way. they get more done in 2 hours than most bands would it seems. plus no matter what, you are seeing one of the best bands in the world.

they have or had in 2006 one of the most impressive stage.light shows ive ever seen had multiple various sized tv screens on the stage, crazy lights.
  • I'd invest in getting their entire post ok computer discography. its sort of "cool currency" in a way. Those albums, Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail to the Theif, In Rainbows and The King of Limbs are some of the most impressive and innovative music ever released, and they are one of those bands everyone is influenced by. I think its worth checking out, just for the change in music style and the way they seemed 10 years ahead of every other band on every single album.

Radiohead are a spectacular live band. I saw them on Hail to the Thief tour & In Rainbows tour. The 1st show my mind was absolutely blown. 2nd show we had all kinds of problems just getting there, to the shitty venue in Camden, and that really was a drag on enjoying the show, but it was still great.

I would just go in order. Kid A is a revolutionary album and my favorite by them (and I am NOT the type that likes "artificial" music, but they really showed everybody how to do it). Think of Amnesiac as a companion piece to Kid A. The Thief is an awesome sort of combo of the Bends/OKC rock sound and the KA/Amn synthy sound.

In Rainbows is really good but I think got so hyped up with their "Pay what you want thing" that maybe it's a tad overrated. You can judge King of Limbs for yourself; I'm not getting into that. At least Codex is a really good song. Let's put it this way: most people were waiting for the sequel, and there was none.

All their albums are amazing on vinyl.

I agree, though OK Computer was a big letdown for me. Kid A and Hail to the Thief, and In Rainbows are about as good as it gets.

Saw them on the first leg of the OK Computer tour in Plymouth. Not seen them since, though wish I had seen them when Kid A came out. Their best album.
The secret to a happy ending is knowing when to roll the credits
  • I saw them on the OK Computer tour, they were pretty incredible. Not sure I would go see them again now, they might play King Of Limbs front to back or something, and that would SUCK
  • i absolutely adore radiohead and consider them the most important band of our generation other than nirvana. but i think they are alot like tool live, or i assume what tool is like live. They play such out there music, innovative and challenging, that people weened on pop or mainstream rock music it may be hard for them to like their live show or their albums. Plus radiohead doesnt favor their first few albums live.

i dont necessarily think theyd win over a person who isnt open to that type of music, ala tool. I think if you arent into Kid A or Amnesiac or OK Computer ect, im not completely sure you would like their live show

Awesome live! I would just start from the beginning of their catalog and listen to them as they evolve.

Seen them 6 times and they never disappoint.

Know what you mean. Just bought it this morning and am listening to it for the third time already. Knowing me, I'll have all of their albums within the next few weeks. Thanks everyone for helping me out regarding this band, I cant get enough of them at the moment and it sounds like they're great live. My favourite genre of music is (non-commercial) alternative, and this band fits the bill in every way. I love innovative and different stuff like this, so Kid A is definitely doing it for me. I seriously hope they come out to Australia later on this year as rumoured. I'm envious of Jervis having seen them live 6 times, I wish I'd taken notice of them earlier but guess it's never too late. Not that they've toured Australia all that often in the past. Thanks also to the posters who posted the YouTube links, this band are really innovative and different - an acquired taste really but I'm just loving them more and more! 'e :)
