I agree. I saw them on the by the way tour. Not sold on the new album with John. To me, his live improvs were part of what made them great (also solos he would add to songs to make them fuller and better). But I'd go see the new lineup if tickets were reasonable.

I always thought the exact opposite of Frusciante's playing. I always felt alot of the weight of the song would just drop out when he'd change to lead and the switches to the solos were often kinda abrupt. From the little I've heard of the new guy he seems better than Froosh at blending the lead and rhythm work.

First saw them on Freaky Stylie era tour, really hit there peak during BSSM and Mothers Milk ear amazing. But over the past 20+ years they have got staler and staler live.Last saw them on the Californication tour and decided after having seen them 8 times I wouldn't go see them again.

The setlist was awesome for the show I went to! (except no Scar Tissue, which was a bit of a bummer, but it was all good!) :D

I would love to hear Scar Tissue, that song takes me back to my high school days. I know this is like YL to PJ fans, but if I do not hear Under the Bridge, I will be really sad. It looks like they have played that at every show so far.

  • The concert near me is sold out and the only place to get tickets is stubhub. Are they worth spending $132 for 1st level tickets? Should I just wait till the next time they come around?

Two of my work colleagues say they have been once and never again, one even went as far as saying her experience at their concert turned her off the band all together.

That really scares me. I hate when a band lets you down. I really hope that I am not disappointed. Maybe your colleague caught them on an off night, but they seem to have a few of those, judging from this thread. :-?

I posted earlier a few pages back, but the show in Dallas for Stadium Arcadium was amazing. I had heard all the same they are "hit or miss" comments from here on this board. My friend and I had a blast. Nobody sat down the entire time. The thing to remember is: they are not Pearl jam. Their show is going to be different. They do jam sometimes instrumentally. I thought it was cool that they showcase each band member indivisually. I,m looking forward to seeing them with Josh. I liked the "I'm with you album" so I am eager to see what he brings to the band live. If anything, it's worth watching Flea play live.

I saw them in December in Vienna, and I have to say I really enjoyed the show. Only downside was the crowd - they get a lot of pop radio airplay here, so you've got a lot of those people coming to see their shows, who will move for "dani california" and then stand there with blank stares for everything else. But the band sounded good, and they seemed to have fun on stage, especially Flea.

Yeah, they played Under the Bridge--I wouldn't worry too much; I read somewhere that Give it Away, Under the Bridge, and Scar Tissue are their most played songs at shows. And don't worry about the peeps who say that they suck live. I was worried too before I went after reading through this thread, but they killed. It was also probably the only time I will see them (was the first time--had to do it), so I had nothing to compare it to as far as how they used to be. I've been to alot of shows in my life, and I would probably rate that one in the top 10. The 2 people I went with loved it, too.

+1. Indeed. Gotta say, though, that I went to Springsteen a few weeks ago, and all I could say after that show was "it's not Pearl Jam". RHCP were better than Bruce (but he was good).

Thanks, I had a blast! I got the black girl's shirt with the pink and gray chili pepper * thingy on it ($35 is right). They actually had kids shirts, but were sold out of the Memphis one, so we waited. As far as the show goes, I thought it was great. I was really scared after reading negative stuff on here. I would suggest catching them if you have never seen them. I do not think I would follow them like PJ, but if they come back to Memphis I will go again. I thought Anthony did a great job up front, but I was probably most impressed with Flea. He was AMAZING! I was also very impressed with his on-stage persona. He was very entertaining, interactive, and gracious when he gave Memphis a very "heart felt" sounding thank you at the end of the show. It was something that I am very happy to say I did, RHCP made up a large portion of my life in the 90s and early 00s, so it was cool getting to hear those songs that I rode around town listening to in my car as a teenager being performed live. Here is the setlist from last night's show: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/red-hot-c ... e7d2b.html

I think we got a great setlist. :D

YAY!!! :D And I got that same shirt! I love it. I agree about following them/not like PJ, but they are definitely worth seeing when they come around!! And you DID have an awesome setlist!!!!!!!!!! wow. I would have loved to have heard BSSM. (but no Scar Tissue.. wth! ) Flea, and all of them really, were great. Glad you had a great time! (told you not to worry. ;) )

    Take heed...
I saw this tour in Calgary,
    + John Frusciante melted faces
    from floor to rafters.
That is the only time I have ever seen them live,
so that's the only take I have on the experience.
    Cheers.

I saw them in Louisville earlier this month (right before they played Bonnaroo), and really enjoyed the show. Not sure what I think of Josh Klinghoffer's guitar work (some was great, some he seemed afraid to tackle Frusciante's earlier solos and just snuck by on feedback and effects).

One thing--I hadn't seen them since 2000, and I can't really recall if this was the case back then, but at this year's show, Flea did all the talking, and Anthony did nothing but sing and say maybe a "Thank you very much." Flea handled everything else, patter-wise. Comments about the city and arena, band member introductions, "we wrote this song when..." bits, everything. Is that a new development, or am I crazy? For some reason (I generally have great recall when it comes to concerts), I can't remember if Flea or Anthony took the lead on that stuff at the two shows I saw in 2000 (when they toured with Foo Fighters).
