saw them in grand rapids, mi, in...2003 or 2004? i thought it was a great show, but it was also my first chili peppers show and a mini-road trip, so i may have just been excited by the overall experience in being there regardless of the show itself. i would say see them...then for better or worse, at least you won't have to wonder and it is an experience either way ;)

curious what other people think, too!

were amazing the couple times I saw them, but that was years ago. now I think they basically play the new cd front to back, guessing not too much old stuff

I saw them on their Stadium Arcadium tour and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to (and I've seen a lot of shows). I can't vouch for them now that they have replaced John Frusciante. If the tickets are not outrageous, I would give them a try.

I saw them at the VERY end of the Stadium Arcadium tour, and they were terrible. Probably the worst live show I have seen - John was very obviously bored, Flea had no real idea of where they were playing (he made comments about a "great soccer match" that had happened in the stadium the night before... which actually never took place there, cue a lot of confusion and murmuring in the crowd.), and then at the end, Kiedis left the stage and let Chad, Flea, John and Josh plough what momentum had been gathered up until that point into the ground with a 20 minute (awful) jam.

HOWEVER, a friend of mine saw them on the IWY tour and said it was great. If you can afford it though, by all means go. Put it this way, will you regret going? Probably not, you'll hear AT LEAST a few songs you love already, plus a few you'll learn to love. Will you regret not going? Almost definitely! (unless your alternate plans for the evening are amazing!! )
  • Hey, saw them a couple of months ago in Stockholm,Sweden, and as you said, they are one of those bands that you just have to see once in your life.
i think the show was a 3 out of 5, they played for almost 2 hours, and mixed very well the old classics with the new songs from the new record, which were all pretty good "standard RHCP-songs".
They had some energy in them, even though you could really feel that they´ve done this a thousand times and that they were pretty much doing it on routine, that including the sometimes pretty funny and not at all understandable speaches by Flea :)
So to rap it up, good and skillful playing of both new and old songs, pretty good energy and cool scene.
However, lack of spontanity (wrongspelled I guess) and somewhat going on just routine and not much talk between the songs by Anthony, and new guitarist, gives the show a 3 out of 5, but still, they are legends in their style, and are totally worth seeing once in your life ;)

I love the RHCP, I love their nusic, I have all the CD'S, the thing winth them is that they can't reproduce live what they have done in the studio, the songs live aren't as good as on the CD, I attended shows in 1993, 1999, 2001 and 2002, both small venues and stadiums, to begin with their shows are short, a lot of jamming between songs, sometimes is good, the others not, and the sound is low, specially if the show is in the open air such as a soccer stadium, I didn't go to their show last year, on account of what I said, plus JF is no longer in the band, but many friends of mine went, it was the first time for several, and they were quite disappointed, they expected a longer show, not 80 minutes, they were happy because they didn't play the last album entirely, only 4 song, they could hear some classics, some old stuff, and a few from stadium arcadium, which was good because the band ddn't tour for that record in our country, but as usual, it was a windy evening, River Plate stadium is close to the river, it's always chilly and windy, so the sound was low and there were echoes, the same happened on the 2002 show, same venue, the songs didn't sound as killing, the show never exploded even though they played great songs and their were at their prime, I got bored and tired of being standing up waiting for something to happen...
... I am not in the business of being liked anymore ...

I only saw them once, on their last tour in Philly, so that is all I have to go on: It was a good show, but not what I expected. I thought, given how crazy and over the edge they make themselves out to be, that they would be more lively, have more of a stage presence. Anthony seemed shy and reserved, never said too much between songs, etc. They just played the songs, which was great, but the show just didn't have that extra element I would have expected. For anyone that has seen Green Day, the way they put on a show and create a whole experience, deliver something beyond just the songs, that was what I had expected from RHCP, but they just played the songs.

Not seeing them this time around.
  • I don't know if they have shaped up...but i saw them many years ago when they toured with STP....I actually walked out on them it was so bad....he just sounded awful

I saw them twice and as much as I like their CDs..... I thought they were really not very good live. It made me sad but it was true. One time they had the Foo Fighters open for them... That was a mistake because the Foos are great live

Saw them on the Stadium Arcadium tour and thought the show was good but nothing great
Considering seeing them this time around but not having any luck getting through for tix right now...they weren't great enough for me to stress about this, if I get a tix great, if not, oh well

I saw them at the Olympiastadium in Munich in 2007 and frankly if you gave me free tickets to see them again I wouldn't bother.

Foo Fighters are about the most consistent band out there, I've never seen a shit show from them. RHCP have been very hit and miss in my experience - the last time I saw them was at a festival in 2007 and I left after about 15 minutes, really disappointing.

:D Yeah, I've never seen it this bad before. I'm trying to get in to get tix for my friends, I grabbed the first 2 I had in my cart even though I really wanted to try for better seats. It's pretty crazy!

i love their albums, and i also think they're one of the band to chalk of your list, but i've had several chances to see them live, but never bothered, because i've heard too much bad things about them live, so the only way i'd go see them live if they where at a festival with other good bands so i'd feel like i wasn't wasteing my money, but thats just me, you decide for yourself mate.
