Boycott Caterpillar!

Caterpillar bulldozers have come to symbolise foreign involvement in Israel's occupation. Their products are used to break international law.

Bulldozers are the iron fist of the Israeli army, used to destroy Palestinian homes, uproot orchards and build illegal settlements. But it was the death of Rachel Corrie that brought to international attention a campaign to hold the company to account. Now a law suit has been launched accusing Caterpillar of human rights violations.

  • Next time I buy a bulldozer I'll get a um...

You know I don't know if I'll ever need a Bulldozer but if I ever do, I'll buy the other kind.

In all seriousness, I think it's rather horrifying that companies can get away with so many atrocities in other countries and never have to answer for it

Is that the question that should be asked?

Do Lockheed Martin fly the planes that drop bombs on women and children?

Did the U.S makers of white phosphorous shells drop them on Palestinian residential areas, safe-houses, and hospitals during the massacre in Gaza in 2008-2009?

The CAT footwear line is actually licensed to and manufactured by Wolverine World Wide which also make Bates, Merrell, Harley Davidson, Hush Puppies and a slew of other footwear lines. But yeah I agree with the boycotting of any and all CAT products.

Theses companies make tools of war because they are paid to do so and they're damn good of it. Maybe we should end the war and leave Palestine alone. I don't know about boycotting Caterpillar.

Well, let's look at it objectively. Those other companies are manufacturing for the intent of war, right?

Caterpillar is making bulldozers, almost every use is not war. Are they selling directly to the Israeli military?

Almost every use is not war? Where did you come up with that? They are used primarily for illegal house demolitions in the occupied territories. And, yes, they are sold directly to the Israeli military. Though even if they weren't sold directly to the Israeli military their acquisition and use by the Israeli military would still breach international law which prohibits the sale of arms or any other type of machinery that can be used against innocent civilians.

I think you really have too much time on your hands, and like Cincy said Cat doesn't make them for this reason.

Should the boot supplier of the Israeli military be boycotted? What if they wear Hanes brand underwear? That Michael Jordan must condone this, after all he is a Hanes spokesman.
  • The bulldozers are sold directly to the Israeli government and they in turn use these vehicles to destroy Palestinian homes, roads and olive groves. They are also used to build the illegal seperation wall which has been condemned by the International Court of Justice.

Now they maintain they have neither the legal right nor the means to police individual use of that equipment which is true to some extent but what about their moral right? Caterpillar provides the Israeli military with these bulldozers, knowing full well what they will be used for in Palestine. The cold facts are that Caterpillar knowingly sold machines used to violate human rights and continues to do so.

Not to mention innocent natural places. We're all part of that war, all of us. Good reasons not to support war and good reasons to learn to conserve, use less, destroy less.

    Boycott Campaigns in Progress:

CJPME has prepared tools and resources for individuals wishing to participate in CJPME’s “consumer boycott” activities. The focus of the resources and tools below is to help individual consumers add their voice – whether addressing company execs, local store managers, or others – to those who refuse to patronize establishments which support the Israeli government’s unlawful and unethical practices.

    Ahava Labs Ltd.
    Canadian Tire
    Caterpillar
    COSTCO
    H&M

    Pizza Hut
    Provincial Liquor Boards
    Toys ‘R Us
    Western Union

    Cultural Boycott Strategy:

CJPME is tracking performers who have performed, or intend to perform in Israel. CJPME encourages its adherents to add their voice to those who call such performances to stop, until Israel respects international law, and respects the human rights of Palestinians.

  • A bit off topic however drawn to this thread by the fact ... I was just going to add that Catapillar demanded money from the state of Illinois "or else" it was pulling its factory and jobs from the state in another thread.

F@#! Why go to a bank with a gun? Just hold up your local state or federal government hostage and demand money.

    F@#! these people.

Boots and underwear don't knock down peoples houses and kill people. The bulldozers that CAT supplies to the Israeli's are not normal bulldozers, as the Youtube piece above points out - did you bother to watch it? They are armoured bulldozers designed for the purpose of destroying homes in the occupied territories. The destruction of Palestinian homes in the occupied territories is illegal under international law.

It is unfortunate that CAT knowingly sells these specially modified vehicles to the Israeli govt, and yes they do know exactly what they will be used for since this is how they come up with the modifications. They don't see a moral dilemma in this at all because all they see are more profits.

All we see is the good their machinery does and that should be enough according to Pandora. Meanwhile the Palestinians see the worst these machines are capable of. How would we feel if Mexico decided they wanted to reclaim their land in TX, NM and CA, and had CAT specially modify some of these for their country and started razing our homes?

I fully understand the hardships Israel and the Jewish community have experienced but two wrongs don't make a right and no one, no one, deserves to have their homes and livelihood taken this way.

ive operated heavy equipment a bit. mostly drove semis with caterpillar engines. CAT pulls 80,000 pounds up mountain sides quite nicely. i throughly am impressed with the sheer beastly power these machines have.

am i to throw away my CAT hat? let me read into this story a bit. so far it sounds terrible.

Ummm...because most bulldozers are not used in war, duh.

Interesting that they sell directly to the Israelis. I would have thought they would have bought them from another company that buys them, and modifies them for their specific use.

I can boycott Caterpillar because I don't want to drive a bulldozer to work every day... but, Costco and Home Depot? That is tough. Cat food and kitty litter from Costco and a major build in my garage... makes it tough. Especially when there is a Home Depot about a half mile down the road... and a Costco less than a mile away.
    Can i boycott Wal-Mart, instead?
