Lots of people say vinyl sounds better......I cannot tell the difference, other than the occasional hiss and pop. For me, I just like vinyl just for the novelty. I love opening up a big lp and looking at the cover and reading the liner notes while it spins away.......and then having to flip it over and do the whole process again.
I love vinyl because I love music and people before me who loved music listened to music on a record player. That and albums are just beautful pieces. I love hearing the needle drop and the little imperfections when records are played.

My parents loved vinyl - and when I tried to convince them to start buying CD's - they didn't - and now that they're gone - I listen to their records (some of them - not all) - and it reminds me of them.
And of course "the sound"
Cheers. Thanks for doing this!

when i was a kid i had a collection of storybooks that came with records. i used to listen to those like some kids watched tv or played atari. i'd lay on the floor and listen for hours at a time. i basically learned to read by following along with the storytellers... "you willl know it is time to turn the page when you hear the chimes ring, like this, (chimes)"... taking care of my records was the first responsibilty i remember learning and probably the only one that stuck. i was only five at the time, but i felt like a grown up.
i recently passed my childhood collection of storybooks and 45's on to my seven year old. i'm sure she could have handled them sooner, but i wasn't ready to part with them just yet. it took some time for me. eventually the thought of her not knowing about vinyl became too much and i caved. we listen to them togetther and i still love to play dj, but make no mistake, they belong to her now. (i really need to drive this point home, as i am still trying to convince myself.) i know the time we share spinning records and following along in storybooks is time that she will remember and i hope she will pass it along to her kids too.
One of my earliest memories of vinyl includes my older sister.
For Christmas, probably in 1973 or 1974, my sis got the most bad ass record player ever. It was a little white box, about 8 inches square. Hinged horizontally on the side. Opening the top exposed the turntable and arm. The beautiful ruby red, almost translucent, records were stored in the top. Carefully, and only with Sis's approval, we would pull the favorite slab from the lid, gently place it upon the turntable, and let her push the right button that magically made the arm move to the right spot and begin playing... Swim Little Fishie...
I'll be thinking about this all day, just trying to get the words to that song in my head...
I love the "real" sound of music that vinyl gives off. It's a nostalgic feeling. Can't be desbribed any other way but a feeling of happy when spinning a record.
Thanks OP
The thing I like most about time is that it's not real. It's all in the head. Sure, it's a useful trick to use if you want to meet someone at a specific place in the universe and have tea or coffee- but that's all it is- a trick. There is no such thing as the past. It exists only in the memory. There is no such thing as the future. It exists only in our imagination. If our watches were truly accurate, the only thing they would ever say is "Now". That's what time it is. It's "Now". - Damien Echols
Great giveaway! I've already got a well-spun backspacer, so keep me out of the drawing. Just wanted to send a friendly "atta boy" to the OP for his generosity!
I love the tangible nature of vinyl, and the fact that it keeps me honest on listening to an album all the way through.

When I was a kid I spent hours listening with my parents and it's such a great memory. I've just started getting into vinyl so that I can listen with my 3 year old son. He enjoys listening to music so I know that he'll enjoy vinyl even more. It's not just the sound of the music, but the smell of the record, the visual of the artwork and record spinning. I hope that when he's my age it will be something that he remembers as fondly as I know I will.

The first "big" gift I ever remember getting was a record player on my 4th birthday, and my grandma gave me a bunch of 45's to listen to. She even taught me how to take care of vinyl, and if I didn't take care of them she threatened to take them away from me. It was the first music listening device I ever had, and the first big responsibility I had in taking care of everything. That's why I love vinyl!
to me vinyl comes from an age where you had actually had to be a good musician. Because vinyl gives you more of a 'pure' sound, any mistakes would be magnified. It's not like today where everything is produced with computers and auto tuning. If you sounded good on an lp you had 'legit' talent.
The sound is better.
I like the ritual.
There is more of a direct connection with the music: When I put on a record, I sit in front of my speakers and listen to the whole album side.
When MP3 playlists are playing, I tend to skip songs, or not pay attention, go about my business... it becomes background music.
Vinyl is foreground music.

Nice, thanks for the giveaway! Why I love vinyl? Well it allways comes back full circle to the music. I grew up with vinyl and since my Mom was not tech savy we did'nt have the latest and greatest. I remember listening to the theme music for Star Wars and how could I forget my first album....Chipmunk Rock! Oyeah, that's right, I was rockin some Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. I drove my brother nuts listening to that album. How could I not? It was like a whole album of people harmonizing on Helium. Ah, the 80's...good times! Like most good addictions, I love the ritual of it. Opening the album, the smell of vinyl, starting the deck, watching it Spin, spin and finally dropping the needle. I love looking at the album art/notes full-sized. I collect vinyl toys also so just another nod to my fondness for vinyl. To me if you love music, vinyl just allows you to connect with it more then any other format. In a nutshell, that's why I love vinyl. Happy Friday Peeps...

Don't worry about it dude. I wasn't trying to sell a copy of my vault CD. Just wanted to add a nice bonus to whoever bought the record. Kat got all over my case thinking I was selling the vault CD along with the LP. I may have been born at night - but it wasn't last night I've seen plenty of people on here selling copies of Backspacer - and part of my "warning" was that it was still available in the goods section. :?: :ugeek:
WOWOW! Thanks You soo much
