Hmm why I love vinyl. Because it reminds when I was little and my uncle would put old stones, Beatles and who albums on and he and my father taught me what real music is. The sound and the feel that you get with vinyl is unlike no other. It brings me back to happy times that's why I love vinyl5/21/10 M.S.G

Me, the $$$ value means balls. I like the way they smell when I open them, the fact that they are large, always made me feel they were superior, when I was a kid I really liked placing things on a record player and watching it spin...I have all the PJ music a man can dream of on 1 single hard drive, and ill play that alot. But the vinyl spinning gives me that much more involvement in my own enjoyment, if that makes any sense. I've got Shit on vinyl thats damn near impossible to find in the digital world. Also, when the end of the work comes, my crank phonograph will be spinning lost dogs while everyone else's ipods are paperweights...

Every time I spin a record it reminds me of when I used to listen to them with my dad. He used to have a ton of vinyl and to this day I never knew what happened to them. My mom can't remember either. Thanks for the chance.Post edited by movaughn onAlpine Valley - Jun 26, 1998, Alpine Valley - Oct 08, 2000, Alpine Valley - Jun 21, 2003

I love vinyl because it brings you back to the album experience. I listened to all Pearl Jam albums up to Yield on CD and would listen from front to back over and over. With the advent of mp3s, iTunes and burning I slowly separated myself from one of the most enjoyable experiences that I have with music. I realized how disconnected from the experience I had become when my wife and I were on our way to Pearl Jam in St. Paul(7 hour drive) and we listened to Avocado on repeat the entire way there(and back). We were familiar with the songs and had listened to the album but most of the time it was on a device with shuffle so the experiencing of the songs was diluted. It was the most incredible drive, we really bonded and "fell in love" with the album. I have since went back and listened to Binaural and Riot Act in the same fashion and I can tell you that there was a hole there.
So fast forward a bit, I have had Vitalogy on vinyl since it was released but had never heard it spin and having done so now I can say that playing vinyl really complements the album experience. With the size of the records, the extra large fold outs, the crackly sounds, the inability to skip and the inability to pause the album forces you into the experience and the record playing will never allow itself to become background music.
PS it was me who got your other thread shut down, sorry.0 -

No silliness here...I think vinyls are bad-ass
..from the 33's my Grandfather used to spin when I was itty bitty & I still have those...to the 45's of my Mom's I spun when I was a teen..."Momma Lookat BooBoo did...Ooo shut yer mouth, go away...." yep, that was a real song...& then on into my own collection of 45's, Elton John, into the Doors, Alan Parsons & into Led Zeppelin & into Pearl Jam....awww, that first crackle, the big chunky headphones...the sound!! There is no equal.....nice givaway, thanks for the chance

Jimi Hendrix - "When I die, just keep playing the records."
Dave Barry - "The four building blocks of the universe are fire, water, gravel and vinyl."
Jeff Ament - "Our first record didn't come out on vinyl, so I think that might have had something to do with actually being in a position to make sure that it came out in vinyl this time. It sounds way better."0 -
I'm a very nostalgic person
I think that it is fun to throw on a record and listen to songs the way my parents (and I - although they we usually storybooks for Star Wars and Mickey Mouse) used to when I was younger. I can hear a little difference but I'm definitely no audiophile.

I love vinyl for several reasons.....first because I feel as if it ensures that I will listen to a complete side or album. It allows me to actually listen to a band/artist the way they hoped I would listen. Not just one song. I also love vinyl because I feel more invested in the listening experience when I take time to carefully take the record out of the jacket place it on the table etc...as opposed to pushing a button or forwarding on a cd. I could go on forever but, lastly it just plain ass sounds better!!0

I love vinyl because the sound is just so much more warm, and brighter than CD's. I got a record player a few years ago and now i'm 13 and i have over 100 records. The addiction can never stop
Thanks for the chance!

I love vinyl because of the size. Size means everything and it's the biggest physical medium around.0

i got into vinyl because of Pearl Jam. If it wasnt for the holiday singles i would have not started this craziness. Im starting to think PJ has stock in record player companies.
thanks for opp.

I think if jp33 wins, He should get the Avacado vinyl..."It's so nice to hear that in other parts of the world, the stress- borne from envy- that one finds for themselves is the animosity they develop towards a person selling a box of records. How fortunate!" ~ Thirty Bills Unpaid

Why do I love vinyl? It must go back to the early years listening to Raffi, and the likes, then trying to sneak some of my older bro's Queen on. I'd have to say Under Pressure is what hooked me. Now I am just getting back into it, and would love to ad Backspaser to my fledgling collection. Thanks for the charity0

The artwork is bigger, the sound is bigger, it's all better.
Warm sounds and it sounds.... More real to me, like I'm there in the studio.
Don't enter me though, I already have a white backspacer.0 -
