I think I forgot about Tom brady.
Its amazing someone of that stature announces their retirement and gets out-staged. The Flores stuff, Belichick, Harbough, Washington Commandos, etc...0 -
“In certain critical ways the NFL is racially segregated and is managed much like a plantation. Its 32 owners — none of whom are Black — profit substantially from the labor of NFL players, 70 percent of whom are Black.”
— Excerpt from Brian Flores’ lawsuit against the NFL
So doing the math and % of African Americans there should be 4.16 Black owners. There are 7 African American Billionaires.
When does race not become an issue but about the amount of people that can actually obtain an NFL team that has the means?

So....I'm guessing that those here who are speaking against the Rooney Rule are also against affirmative action?
It is the same thought process, they just stop short of mandating.
Also I don't think taking a general number of black people in the population and comparing against number of coaches when the league population is not even in the same ballpark, percentage wise, is a a good evaluation tool.
Black people are good enough to play but not to lead?
Not buying it.
This is the old boy's club, as was stated
" They treat black candidates for HC jobs the same as white" rings just as true as "they always play to a win."
A joke. The love he receives is the love that is saved0 -

If you haven’t watched MSNBC’s Chris Hayes’ interview with Brian Flores and two of his attorneys, you should. What a cesspool the billionaires NFL club is. It’s the second decade of the 21st century for crying out loud. And his attorneys never had to stop him from speaking, interjected, sure, but never stopped him from answering the question or expressing himself.
Here’s a fucking clue: one guy, Black, starts out as a 23 YO assistant. Spends 15 years with the Pats, working his way up, wins 4 SB with BB. Gets hired by the fish, has two winning seasons, makes a run for the playoffs but falls short. Gets fired. Is available.
White guy who gets hired by the Giants, was an assistant at Buffalo but hadn’t won shit. No SB, never mind 4.
But yea, it’s about “getting along,” or “who you’re comfortable with.”
2nd decade of the 21st century. What a sewer. NFL is the new NASCAR.
Shame.

While Flores did a decent job in Miami, and I was surprised he was let go. I wonder what the entire story is, and what happened behind the scenes that ultimately resulted in his firing. It always seemed there was drama bubbling behind the scenes there with Tua/Watson, who wanted who, etc. His dismissal likely wasnt racism as their GM is black. Right now we are seeing 1 side of the story in a deluge with an aggressive PR and publicity angle taken by a hungry lawyer firm. Are these teams not hiring him because he is black? Or maybe there is a possibility he is/was difficult to work with and word spreads.
When Schoen was hired by the Giants, it seemed a formality that he wanted Daboll as his HC. That is fine. He knows Daboll, likes what he brings to the table and he is staking his career on it. He isn't doing it because he is white and to advance white superiority.
All the bluster aside, the question will be, does the NFL do enough in good faith to try to promote and hire black coaches and employees? The very public Rooney rule tells us that they in fact do make a good faith effort... even though in many cases it is a sham (as happens with all businesses and AA/EEO initiatives). Overall you look at the picture/statistics and it isn't working well. In my opinion, it will get investigated. The NFL's hiring and promotion trends and salary comparisons will be looked at for evidence of discrimination. If the Giants slipped up and did anything procedurally/officially with Daboll before going through the process, there will be a fine (wont be all that much, but the NFL would likely fine them more). Flores might be entitled to some civil damages, but not sure that would be a whole lot. With that though, the NFL would likely be tasked to re-vamp their hiring/rooney procedures, would be monitored for a period of time, and thats it.
You also need to look at the NCAA ranks, which serves as a training ground for a lot of coaches and a feeder for NFL positions. Their numbers arent great eitherPost edited by MayDay10 on0 -
