Had the best 1st quarter and game of his career. First cowboys QB to ever throw for over 500 yards.
Maybe he needs to start playing defence, too; he's doing everything else.
But did you see the way Denver's D was playing? With the exception of that last possession, they were terrible. One of the worst defensive performance I remember seeing in my life. At times I actually thought they weren't even trying. Romo WAS playing well, but Denver's D deserves some credit for those stats too.
If we're giving credit where credit is due, why not say the same about the Cowboys's defence; they were just as bad. They couldn't stop traffic today. I mean, manning was playing almost as well as Romo, but anyone could have put up 51 points on that D today.
Absolutely the same can be said about Dallas' defense, which is why Manning's performance is being treated as predictable given the circumstances. A not-so-great defense, Manning's familiarity with the Tampa 2, etc. At least from what I can tell. I thought Denver's D was flat out pathetic. Dallas' looked crappy as always, Denver looked like they were all playing their first game of football ever. They couldn't (or rather wouldn't) tackle, they gave up on plays, they didn't look like they were even trying until that last Dallas possession. Like they were all hungover and expected Peyton to carry them. It's the worst defense I've seen by a professional football team in recent memory. Several times backs looked like they gave up just because the pass was caught. Like if they weren't going to get an interception, then forget it. I forget who it was, but on one play a Cowboy caught the ball, and the Denver defender was right behind him, and as soon as he hauled it in the pulled up and let him go. Other times it looked like they were trying to play touch football. They looked like a football version of the Bad News Bears.
I just saw the replay on the news, and the defender was nearby and it wasn't unthinkable he could make a play, it wasn't a bonehead interception. Especially given the way they had been playing all game. There were two other Broncos in the area, but they were in no threat of getting there. If you watch it quickly, it might look like he threw it into a sea of Broncos, but only one had a chance."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -
I don't know man, I've seen plenty of games where the defence looked just as bad or worse than that(just look at all 5 of the Giant's games this year).
I think you're giving them too much credit and Romo not enough credit. He was absolutely awesome today. And he brought the Cowboys back in the 2nd half and regained the lead after a lot of people said the game was over. He went toe to toe with Manning today and eventually outplayed him, breaking the Cowboy's all-time 'passing yards in a single game' record.
Everyone mentions the INT at the end, but no one seems to remember the fumble by Dez Bryant which lead to a TD and was the turning point in the game.Another habit says it's in love with you

I agree totally with you ... Romo has never played better. Plenty of mistakes made by Cowboy players. The Cowboy D has never looked worse.I have certain rules I live by ... My First Rule ... I don't believe anything the government tells me ... George Carlin

Yeah man, Romo played the best game of his career today. He shouldn't have been put in the position he was in, trying to bring them back yet again, with a little over 2 minutes to play. The D should have forced a punt and allowed Romo to hand the ball off and eat up the clock.
Offence scores 48 points, but still lose and everyone blames the quarterback. Unbelievable.

I'm not saying that, as I said, I don't think it was really his fault. It wasn't a wide open pass, but it wasn't a given INT either given how they'd played and just the fact that he wasn't RIGHT on top of him or anything.
Maybe I'm not giving Romo enough credit, but he's also getting too much credit. Today was no more an indication of his skills than it was of Manning's. It was a shootout game, two offenses, no defenses. He SHOULD have had those stats. Now show me that against a team that is playing defense. I poke a little fun at Romo, but I'm also the first to defend him when he doesn't deserve the blame. Like when they lost to NYG on the last game of the season year before last, I think it was, and missed the playoffs. People were bagging on Romo, some newbie registered for the sake of starting a Romo sucks thread, but it wasn't his fault. And I defended him. He made some very good plays today, some plays didn't impress me, like one touchdown where the defender was standing flat footed watching his mark catch the TD unmolested. It was a game of catch."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -

Romo is the most overrated qb in the league. He sometimes squeezes the cowboys I to the playoffs, then once they get there, he chokes, hard. If Dallas were playing the giants today, he would have been 14-36, 194 tds, 1 td, 3 picks.0

As a Cowboy fan I can be critical of Romo, and was after the INT, but after the replay I have o give the Denver defender credit he made a nice play on the ball, that happens. Yup your right they score 48 and its still Romo's fault ... I'll never figure that out.I have certain rules I live by ... My First Rule ... I don't believe anything the government tells me ... I disagree. I think he's rated just about right. So far this year he has 13 TD passes; 1,523 passing yards; 114.5 QB RTG; and only 2 picks(only Peyton Manning has fewer picks).
Cowboys are 2nd in the league in scoring; and Romo is 7th in the league in passing yards(they're 10th in overall yards).
And I don't know where you came up with those stats, but they did play the giants in week 1 and his real stats were: 36/49, 263 yds and 2 TDs and 1 pick. Plus they won the game, but he didn't get any credit for the win - he only gets the credit when they lose.Another habit says it's in love with you

I figured it out: Romo haters are blinded by their hatred for him. It doesn't matter what he does, the haters are gonna hate him.
The best comparison I can give you is: He's like Obama and his haters are the Tea party: it doesn't matter what he does, good or bad, they'll never like him or give him credit for anything.
It doesn't matter that he threw for over 500 yards(a Cowboys record); It doesn't matter that he threw 5 TD's. It doesn't matter that he brought them back from behind in the 2nd half to take the lead after everyone had written them off. But it's like Kurt Warner just said: if you put up numbers like that, you should win every day of the week, regardless if you make a mistake in the final 2 minutes or not. (I disagree with the mistake part though - I agree with you - I think it was just a great defensive play, which can happen any time to any QB).Another habit says it's in love with you

Well said ... I know! I didn't think it would be close either, or that the Cowboys would put up close to that many points. I honestly did think that once Denver took the lead in the 2nd quarter and were up 28-17, that Dallas wouldn't have the lead again. I was one of those fans who had written them off. But the fact that they came so close is very promising. I mean look at what the Broncos did to the Eagles last week!Another habit says it's in love with you

What about Manning's rushing TD? What the hell was that? He just walked right in. No one was within 10 feet of him. It was his first rushing TD In five years. :fp:

How is Carolina 1-3? Their defence has only given up 58 points this year, which is tied for best in the league with KC, and KC is 5-0. Actually that means Carolina has the best defence because they've only played 4 games and KC has played 5. I guess their 78 points on offence doesn't help. What's going on there? That one was pretty funny. They bit hard on the fake, it happens sometimes, and Peyton know that defense. But the way it unfolded was very comical. I know they sucked, but they were at least making their tackles. Maybe Denver was just looking bad more dramatically or something, like the Cowboys on Peyton's walk-in play. But I was kind of shocked during the game. Because they're not usually that bad.
They did get to Romo a few times, but they weren't real bad ones. Just a play falling apart on one and he got sacked for pretty much no loss, I think he may have been about to try and run but just got grabbed. And one was on that last possession, right before the INT, and on that last possession Denver did come alive on D. Looked like a different team, they stepped up when they had to.The Waiting Trophy Man wrote:How is Carolina 1-3? I don't know, I haven't seen a single game, though I heard about that beatdown they gave NYG. They are a disaster though. But looking at the box score of today's game it would seem that if you can't hang up more than 2 field goals against the #14 Defense in the league, all the defense in the world isn't going to do you much good. You need some production."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -
yes, I'm a severe Romo hater. my point was geared more towards how he plays well against good teams and seems to play down to worse teams. I don't blame Romo for the loss though. he played out of his mind against a good, non existant denver defense. you have to put that loss on the Dallas d.0

To go along with the 4 sacks, they were getting pressure on Romo, how about Romo running around avoiding a sack and then getting a 12 yard completion to Witten. Everyone knows Mannings one of the best QB's of all time but would he be put up the numbers that he puts up behind the Cowboys O line, the O line is improved but its still very much average.I have certain rules I live by ...
