If Matt would quit PJ...

If he would quit to focus on Soundgarden (which I hope he doesn't), here are my 3 candidates which I think would fit very good.

1. Chad Gracey: The Drummer from Live, which I believe have split up. Love his style, I thin it would fit excellent.
2. Dave Grohl. Not sure he is available.
3. Jimmy Chamberlain: I think he's also free, but too many personal issues and don't like his style personally (too melodic).

I would leave a last option of course for a Jack Irons return.

If MC quits I think they'll be done. Not sure that'll ever happen...He gets a huge paycheck and 1/5 a say in when and where they tour.

I agree, I think the revolving door of drummers ended at Matt Cameron. But if he were to quit...I believe Dave A would be available.

The way PJ is and most likely will tour each year (a month in us or canada /a month elsewhere) leaves plenty of time for Matt to do both and I would expect this going forward.

There music has become more rigid since Matt joined. Jack and dave brought a rhythmic swing style of drumming that brought out more musical depth from the band and also more emotting from Eddie....Matt's a great drummer but clearly his style isn't best suited for PJ

Nope...sorry...uh uh...I refuse to even think about this. Matt Cameron is the motherfucking beat machine - the pulse of this band. He's their very first drummer (from waaaayyyy back) and the guy they were missing for 8 years.

    He completed the band.

I can't think of any other drummer better suited to rock out with than Motherfucking Matt Cameron!

... there would be no PJ. Ed thanked Matt for keeping the band alive at PJ20. I really don't think they would have lasted this long without Matt Cameron. Even Chris Cornell credits Matt for being the stable force in SG.

And fuck the drummer from Live, seriously. If that despicable band shows up in my PJ Pandora station one more time, I'm gonna hurt somebody. Matt would BURY that guy in a drum-off.

[my apologies, I'm in a mood.]

Sorry but I don't think Grohl could hold Matt's jock. Most overrated drummer ever in my opinion. He's a great singer/songwriter, and band leader, but I am no fan of his loud, sloppy drumming style. But thats just my opinion and I argue with friends who rank him very high. And Irons has more groove in his little finger than Grohl does in his whole body. Again, my opinion. Matt put PJ over the top as the touring powerhouse they are imo. Like when the Bulls put Rodman in their backcourt in the 90's to do all the dirty work.

he's going to be a pretty busy guy with Cornell saying that he sees SG making more new music together.

Sorry, but I think you're way off on alot of stuff here. He's not the technician that Cameron is, but the guy is a pretty badass drummer. I do agree on your assessment as far as the PJ touring powerhouse, but they've always had a great reputation as a live act back to the early days when they were so explosive. Could be wrong, but I think most people point to the Jack Irons era as being the weakest as far as live work goes.

I wouldn't necessarily call his style loose and sloppy either. The drumming on the Nirvana albums, the first couple from the Foo's, Songs for the Deaf and Them Crooked Vultures is some of the tightest drumming I've ever heard. You can't hang with John Paul Jones without having an amazing groove or play with the loose feel that he can without being a tight drummer. I doubt he'd be in my top 5 drummers list, but the guy knows how to put a kit through a workout.

Its a legit concern. Matt and his committment to sg is certainly effective pj to some degree, why not discuss it and where it could very logically lead.

Not this tired old subject again. If you could successfully manage to be with two great bands, why not? I'm sure not many people get to do this, and Matt's filling in time when he's not with PJ very effectively, imo with SG. He wont quit PJ, and if he did it would be the end of them. And whoever said Dave A could rejoin PJ needs their head read, this is most unlikely to happen when Dave was fired from the band cos he didnt fit in.

You get some moronic crap spouted on this message board, but this one is right up there. Dave Grohl is one of the tightest heavy rock drummers in the history of music... all you need to do is ask the pros, forget about us lot on here. I can only assume you've got a typical anti-Nirvana / anti-Foo Fighters / anti-QOTSA / anti-TCV / anti-anything-that's-not-PJ thing going on, like many others on here.

Matt quitting PJ to focus on soundgarden would be like Albert Pujols leaving the Angels to play in the minors.
