If Matt would quit PJ...
If he would quit to focus on Soundgarden (which I hope he doesn't), here are my 3 candidates which I think would fit very good.
1. Chad Gracey: The Drummer from Live, which I believe have split up. Love his style, I thin it would fit excellent.
2. Dave Grohl. Not sure he is available.
3. Jimmy Chamberlain: I think he's also free, but too many personal issues and don't like his style personally (too melodic).
I would leave a last option of course for a Jack Irons return.

I agree, I think the revolving door of drummers ended at Matt Cameron. But if he were to quit...I believe Dave A would be available.

he's going to be a pretty busy guy with Cornell saying that he sees SG making more new music together.

Sorry, but I think you're way off on alot of stuff here. He's not the technician that Cameron is, but the guy is a pretty badass drummer. I do agree on your assessment as far as the PJ touring powerhouse, but they've always had a great reputation as a live act back to the early days when they were so explosive. Could be wrong, but I think most people point to the Jack Irons era as being the weakest as far as live work goes.
I wouldn't necessarily call his style loose and sloppy either. The drumming on the Nirvana albums, the first couple from the Foo's, Songs for the Deaf and Them Crooked Vultures is some of the tightest drumming I've ever heard. You can't hang with John Paul Jones without having an amazing groove or play with the loose feel that he can without being a tight drummer. I doubt he'd be in my top 5 drummers list, but the guy knows how to put a kit through a workout.
Its a legit concern. Matt and his committment to sg is certainly effective pj to some degree, why not discuss it and where it could very logically lead.
(Just Kidding Matt! )
...but not really.
Not this tired old subject again. If you could successfully manage to be with two great bands, why not? I'm sure not many people get to do this, and Matt's filling in time when he's not with PJ very effectively, imo with SG. He wont quit PJ, and if he did it would be the end of them. And whoever said Dave A could rejoin PJ needs their head read, this is most unlikely to happen when Dave was fired from the band cos he didnt fit in.
You get some moronic crap spouted on this message board, but this one is right up there. Dave Grohl is one of the tightest heavy rock drummers in the history of music... all you need to do is ask the pros, forget about us lot on here. I can only assume you've got a typical anti-Nirvana / anti-Foo Fighters / anti-QOTSA / anti-TCV / anti-anything-that's-not-PJ thing going on, like many others on here.
and i sure as hell dont want him to
