Let me guess they used UPS to ship it?

Don't use UPS for international orders, they're brokerage fee's are a rip off.

You should find the customs notice, and see how much was actually for tax and how much was for brokerage.

although ups would add to the charges, i dont think it would matter in this case. im not 100% sure but i think it goes, if a order of $50 or more and shipped from what the postal service believes is a actual company, then you get charged customs/taxes on the value showing on the lable. it does not matter wheather its marked as a "gift" or not. if its over $50, from a regular joe and marked "gift" its no customs.

to the op, sorry to hear about you getting raped, hope it stops hurting soon :P

Yeah i had the same problem when i ordered the 06 sub. I already had to pay extra to ship to Canada... if i remember correctly it was double the US price then to see it cost them 12$-15$/tube to ship when i paid closer to 33$ per.

I was fortunate, one of my tubes got through customs without duty, when the second arrived and there was $40ish fee attached i called customs to find out. The nice lady told me that any item over 50$ is subject to a random custom fee.

Then when my last tube arrived another fee, the same price which i didn't understand at first because the value of the last tube was only 120$ (1st-300$, 2nd-300$, 3rd 120$ total cost of 720$) But because of the 'free' gifts Ames valued the tube at 300$ so i had to pay tax and duty on that value even though I only paid 120 for that tube.

I tried to appeal with the Gov but the reciept I got from Ames wasn't sufficient for them and they returned my claim.

Long story short... or actually still pretty long... Canadians buying from Ames be prepared to pay lots of hidden fees!!

For some reason UPS Ground are a bunch of extortionists. I have more problems with them then any other shipping companies. Actually almost got in a scrap with one of those dudes in the brown shorts once - their minimum brokerage fees are ridiculous. Avoid them where possible IMHO.

got my first tube in the Uk without charge......very odd as the value declared on it was $350 and they never get through our viscious bastard customs. Still waiting on the second tube so something tells me its probably being hammered with some charges....:(

When I lived in Vancouver, I used to get stung with duty a lot.
Ames posters subs used to be $40 per tube. I even was charged for a few 03 boots I think the duty was more than the boots if i remenber correctly.

Now I live in Australia and payed nothing extra for my tubes from Ames, just had to wait a little longer got my last tube two days ago.:)
