Awesome man! 8-) The songs have religious content because Vaden Todd Lewis's father is a minister. I think some of the songs are geared towards being raised as a minister's kid with a religious background in a rebellious kind of way. Some of the songs are about rebellion towards and acting out against his father's profession/ rules. Something not uncommon for teenagers to rebel against their parents rules every once in awhile.

That's true...Rubberneck has alot of songs about religion in it...but they are still good! :D

You, Red Mos and capthowdy1027 :D I think we talked about Toadies on Facebook a little while back didn't we Rico?

One of my all time favorite bands. I've seen them live 4 times, once on the Hell Below Stars Above tour, and then they came to town 3 time on No Deliverance. The last time I seen them was by far my favorite. It was in a really small club, with a stage that was only like 3 feet off the ground and me and my friend were front row literally about 3 feet away from Todd the whole night, screaming along to every single damn song. I finally lost my spot when the crowd went APE SHIT as soon as it got to the "I FIND A WINDOW IN THE KITCHEN" part of "Tyler". I'm too damn old for moshing and shit like that but man was that a lot of fun.

I've been lucky enough to meet Todd and the guys after each show I've been too and I think he's by far the nicest "rock star" I've ever met. He has signed each one of my CD covers and they're all in a frame in my basement.

What's your guys favorite album? I guess Rubberneck is obviously everybody's go to, but HBSA is by far my favorite. You'll Come Down, Pressed Against the Sky, HBSA, and Dollskin are just flat out damn amazing songs.

My wife and I had our first kid in 2002 and she had a huge list of names picked out that she wrote down on a piece of paper and I went through saying which ones I liked and didn't and then I got to Tyler on the list and I said "Hey that's an awesome Toadies song, let's go with that". So yeah, my kid is somewhat named after a Toadies song haha.

MAD love for the Toadies - and I think Hell Below Stars Above is my fave too. Seriously Dollskin is one of the most beautiful songs ever. I've only seen the Toadies live twice, but both shows to me are unforgettable.

I meant to get into the Burden Brothers but never really got the chance. Is VTL still doing that at all?

Dollskin is amazing. There are very few songs out there that are better than that song in my honest opinion.

I believe Burden Brothers are done now that Toadies are back together, but I wouldn't be surprised if they still released something new one day. However, I could be completely wrong about that.

    I love the Toadies!!!

Hell Below/Stars Above is such a great album. Love Dollskin and Pressed Against the Sky.
Saw them 2x. Once right before No Deliverance, and once right after. Both great shows. The 2nd time was in a small bar in New Haven, CT (Toads Place ;):D ). The place was freakin EMPTY! Literally, maybe 50 people there aside from the employees. Crazy shit.

    Such an underrated band.

Rubberneck = when I fell in love w/ the Toadies.

Isnt it funny how you can listen to a song, or album...no matter how many years after you first heard it, and it always brings you right back to that place/time in your life? This is one of those albums for me.

Hey, I'm from the D/FW area (where Toadies are from), back in the 90's they were the biggest band in the world around here. I've seen them live 6 times. I met them once back in '97 at a rehearsal space they had in Deep Ellum through a friend of a friend who knew them. Me and one guy helped Lisa Umbarger carry some boxes out to her car and smoked a joint with her in the car. She "didn't have enough for everybody" was the reason we smoked in the car, and I guess it was our reward for helping her carry the boxes. It wasn't quite as glamorous as I thought it would be, her car was a piece of shit and the window on my side was broken (I think somebody had broken in) and taped up with electrical tape.

Hmm...I think my favorite Toadies album is probably No Deliverance with HBSA right after. Probably my favorite Toadies song is Pink...LOVE that song! But Doll Skin is such an amazing song too! They are coming to Seattle with Social D in April but one of my favorite bands, Cold War Kids, is also coming to Seattle soon. I'm really trying to see both...don't have much money but I think I will see CWK first and then if I have money left over see the Toadies. CWK tickets are only $20 but I'm not sure how much the Toadies tickets are yet...

Find a way to go, Rico! It'll be worth every penny.
And it probably depends more on the venue in terms of the ticket pricing, but I dont remember paying more than $35 to see the Toadies, and thats pretty much unheard of anymore!

Same here, I can't even remember how many times I saw The Toadies in Deep Ellum back in high school or college. They were always great live and Rubberneck is an amazing album. I didn't get into the other albums as much but they were still pretty solid. Them and The Nixons were my favorite local bands in that time period.

I don't know how it was everywhere else, but around here they were a one-hit wonder. I think they were from Oklahoma, they may have been bigger up there, but around here that song Sister got played to death and everybody got tired of it. Lots of people had the single, but I don't remember anybody actually having the album. And you didn't really need the single, it was never more than 5 minutes away from being played on one of the radio stations.

I think I bought the full album because of that song, but I sure don't remember any of it anymore.

I am rethinking this Toadies roadtrip now though. I asked them on Twitter if they were going to do a full set on the Social D tour and they replied back and said they're playing for 45 minutes. I don't know if I can justify a 6 hour drive to see that short of a set. Even though Social D kicks ass, Toadies would be my main reason for going.

Toqdies rock!! Tyler is definitely my favorite. When it gets to the ending and I'm alone in my car, I sing as loud as I can! Pure awesomeness.

    It's impossible not to!

I find a window in the kitchen, and I let myself in
Rummage through the refrigerator, find myself a beer
I can't believe I'm really here, and she's lying in that bed
I can almost feel her touch, and her anxious breath!

I stumble in the hallway, outside the bedroom door
I hear her call out to me, I hear the fear in her voice
She pulls the covers tighter, I press against the door

I will be with her tonight!

Hmmm I really have taking a love to each Toadies album. I love each one. One thing I have wondered as of late is why "motovational" has dissapeared from the setlists?

I've probably seen Toadies about 15-20 times. Been to soundcheck a few times too.

Saw Burden Brothers like 10 times I think. Those shows were epic because they played a bar right across from University of North Texas on fry street alot and that place held like maybe 500 people (if that many). They blew the roof off that Dive. Vaden once comented about how he played this bar when it was a different name (Rick's place). Told the crowd he was going to play a new song and didicate it to this bar. The Burden Brothers launch into "I come from the water" (Vaden used to not play Toadies stuff once BB got rolling and had albums out). The place went Apeshit! I was third row and then ended up literally on someone's shoulders and almost on the stage. Didn't wanna get kicked out. Oh man, fun fun fun times in Denton on fry street.
