    Made my donation to:

The Southern Poverty Law Center is a nonprofit civil rights organization dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry, and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of society.

Founded by civil rights lawyers Morris Dees and Joseph Levin Jr. in 1971, the SPLC is internationally known for tracking and exposing the activities of hate groups. Our innovative Teaching Tolerance program produces and distributes – free of charge – documentary films, books, lesson plans and other materials that promote tolerance and respect in our nation’s schools.

We are based in Montgomery, Ala., the birthplace of the modern civil rights movement, and have offices in Atlanta, New Orleans, Miami, Fla., and Jackson, Miss.

    A Rich History

The SPLC was founded to ensure that the promises of the civil rights movement became a reality for all. Since our founding in 1971, we’ve won numerous landmark legal victories on behalf of the exploited, the powerless and the forgotten.

Our lawsuits have toppled institutional racism in the South, bankrupted some of the nation’s most violent white supremacist groups and won justice for exploited workers, abused prison inmates, disabled children and other victims of discrimination.

Donation made to The Museum of Tolerance. My dad volunteered here for many years, and since his recent death, my mom has taken over his position.

Recipient of the Global Peace and Tolerance Award from the Friends of the United Nations, the Museum of Tolerance (MOT) is a human rights laboratory and educational center dedicated to challenging visitors to understand the Holocaust in both historic and contemporary contexts and confront all forms of prejudice and discrimination in our world today.

  • Great idea and thanks for the opportunity.

I just donated to the Smile Train. http://www.smiletrain.org

Our mission is to provide a child born with a cleft the same opportunities in life as a child born without.

    We:

Provide free cleft surgery to hundreds of thousands of poor children in developing countries.
Train doctors and medical professionals in over 80 countries.
Treat the “whole child” with comprehensive, total rehabilitative care including: speech therapy, general dentistry and orthodontics.
    Tread Lightly.
  • My oldest son's first grade teacher(he went to her wedding that summer and is now in 7th grade) died suddenly at age 30 with 2 infant daughters. Both sides of the family grew up in our community. We gave a sum to the widower ostensibly for his daughter's college fund, but he can do with it as they need. I don't know if that qualifies. I personally am paranoid about public charities and prefer to do this. I believe charity starts at home. But, I also understand if this doesn't "qualify." Thanks for doing this. I've been debating on even trying, but figured why not? Either way, you're doing a great thing.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.
