Poll: 43 percent of people think Tebow’s success is due to divine intervention … including 54 percent of Republicans

So it’s come to our attention that you’ve been taking this Tebow-divine intervention thing seriously all this time? Sigh.
Noticing a Tebowing craze that’s swept the world and the fact that the Broncos are still alive in the playoffs, the folks at the survey company Poll Position decided to find out exactly how many folks think that Tebow’s success is indeed due to the Lord’s intervention. Their findings.
Among those aware of the Tebow phenomenon, 43% said they believed divine intervention was at least partly responsible for his success. Forty-two percent disagreed, and 14% expressed no opinion.
Yep, more people (among those aware of Tebow) believe that God is influencing NFL games than don’t believe. But here are some interesting breakdowns of the survey:
The numbers fluctuate greatly with the age of the respondent. But when it’s broken down between races, 50.5 percent of African Americans said yes to divine intervention, to only 37.1 percent of Caucasians. And a whopping 81.3 percent of Hispanic respondents answered yes, God has a headset.
And among Republicans, 54.2 percent think God helps Tebow win. Among Democrats, it’s 38.2 percent.
Oh, and men are less likely (40.6 to 46.8) than women (46.4 to 37.3) to think that God has a Tebow poster on his wall.
Meanwhile an ESPN poll rated Tebow as America’s favorite athlete: the quickest a pro athlete has ever topped their survey.

If you are a Christian... your God is a fucking asshole.
seriously, god must be a hell of a sports fan... because if god is for your team, who could be against it?

First, Tim Tebow has done nothing to you. Many of you just dislike (hate) him because you believe his religious beliefs are directly opposed to your political agenda. That, right there, is sad and sick. Everything comes back to politics to some here.
Second, as to the point, a high number of people believe in karma. They think that doing something negative or positive, may cause something negative or positive down the line to a person. Others believe in fate. The fact is these people believe something similar, but replace the word karma or fate with God. I don't see what the big deal is. You don't agree that God controls everything. They do. So what? Stop whining about how they're dumb and you're somehow intellectually superior, when the reality is you can't prove they're wrong. It's endless loop debate and for some odd reason, some feel a sense of superiority when denigrating other people's religious beliefs.
Third, at the end of the day, do we really need to have more commentary (via new threads) on Tim Tebow? The dude's religious, we get it. He's also a unconventional QB. Yet, he's winning games. Ok. Got it.

1. I don't have too much time on my hands. As I was browsing through the latest political news stories, I came across this article. I found it to be stupid. My opinion, I apologize for having one.
2. Nothing you wrote in your post applies to me, gimme, prince of dorkness, or cafefrances. None of us are whining. None of us feel that we are intellectually superior. (Though I would make the case that we all dedicate much more time to educating ourselves and increasing our awareness than a majority of the American public).
3. I--I won't speak for the others--feel that religion is a product of arcane mental capabilities. I feel that religion and the belief in a "God" is a fairy tale. Can I prove I am right? No. Am I foolish enough to believe in a fairy tale that relies solely on the luck of where I was born and what family I was born into? Again, no.
I find it troubling and disconcerting that I live in a society that believes in an invisible man in the sky. To me, it is stupid and a real hindrance to any type of progress. Therefore, I will denigrate those beliefs that I feel play a role in weighing down a chance at progress for American/human society.
4. This thread is not about Tim Tebow--that was not my intention. It is simply a bit of social commentary to illustrate the fact that a substantial percentage of those polled live (mentally, philosophically) in the Middle Ages.
5. "First, Tim Tebow has done nothing to you. Many of you just dislike (hate) him because you believe his religious beliefs are directly opposed to your political agenda. That, right there, is sad and sick. Everything comes back to politics to some here." Who's intellectually superior and denigrating now?
I'm a Mets fan...."God" must hate me..........
I get your point from the beginning of your post, but this is a really not a very cool thing to say.
hahahahahaa... ok. These two statements don't seem to go with one another.

Prince, you, and a hell of a lot of other people on these forums.
DO some research on religion and get back to me.
Arcane mental capabilities=a world without science, a world without reason, a world without facts, a world of fairy tales.
Why is Christianity reputable, but Greek Mythology refuted? What the hell is the difference between the 2?
That's funny, I just google searched it and those words never came up together. Maybe I misspelled something, tends to happen when I type.
Google is not research. Research takes a bit more time
(Though I sense you were being facetious)
Why do I need to do research on religion? To try equate myself to your mental capabilities? Why do you think you know more about religion than I do?... it couldn't be that you feel you are "intellectually superior" right.... cause... you already said you don't feel you are.
Hypocritical much?

I was.
But since you brought it up, I have a question for you. When you state something here and someone either questions it or misunderstands, etc.... why do they need to do research? Should you, the person that posted the concept actually present that information as well? And then if they want to look more into it they can?
I honestly find it just as lazy to say "Do your research" as you probably think it is for me to think you should have provided the information.
When I start to care about what Christians think is "cool," I'll let you know.
Good deal. Keep lumping all Christians together, just like some Christians do to all gays.
If you hate something....
I don't know...he is terrible and yet he still wins some games. I mean, how do you explain my Steelers...#1 pass defense giving up over 300 yards passing to Tim Tebow???? Something had to happen.
Tebow's TERRIBLE, but he's not as bad as the steelers thought he was. A simple prevent defence would've stopped that.
What the hell are you talking about? Like an abandoned minting factory, you make no sense.
Actually, I think there are several reasons...Broncos O-line was great, no pressure. And then mostly, Injuries. Ben, Mendenhall, Ryan Clark, Hampton, Keisel, Woodley's hammy still bothering him....I could go on. They were too beat up to play and had to take some chances. And Ike Taylor and William Gay were not up to the task. Especially Ike, worst game as a Steeler.
Explain how my post didn't make any sense. You completely contradicted yourself in one of your own posts (the one I quoted). I simply asked for an explanation.

I was simply relying on the idea that most know the general history of religions; and if they don't, then more research would be needed. Doing more research would simply yield a better understanding of the origins of religion--how they were forced upon civilizations, how they simply replaced "older" religions, such as Greek/Roman/Egyptian Mythology, paganism, etc.
Me saying "do some research" is simply a request that we look at religion in an historical perspective. I feel that we--you and I, the AMT, human civilization--would benefit from having historical knowledge, rather than simply relying on a more egotistical perspective. I define egotistical perspective as thinking that we are the apex of civilization (that we are "right"), or the inability to look beyond our generation, our 70-80 years of existence.
Anyway, here is some research that I feel is worthwhile.
The Bible--yes, it is good to know about this book for research purposes
Joseph Campbell--The Hero with a Thousand Faces
Thomas Paine-The Age of Reason
Bill Laurentzin--The Invention of God
Any definitive works done on Greek/Roman/Egy mythologies
CS Lewis-Til We Have Faces.....maybe, been a while since I read it.

Saying that I educate myself and feel that I am more aware than most of the American population is not the same as me saying I am intellectually superior. I am the first one to admit that I know nothing. That is why I educate myself everyday--reading, researching, critical thinking.
My comment simply meant that the majority of the American public does not care to make the effort to educate themselves. I do care enough.
Very different things.
If this is indeed accurate, it is sad. I think these stupid polls are rigged, however. I do know some strange Christians that attribute the weirdest tihng to religion, but I just simply cant believe that they REALLY believe that Tim Tebow is getting help from God "to actually win". Perhaps its taken out of context, as in: they believe Tim Tebow has God in his life, and it is a positive direction and path for him to follow? I'd like to see how the question of the poll was phrased.
However, I just saw the video of the US Marines pissing on dead bodies in Afghanistan. If the US keeps up shit like this and other war related atrocities, we are definitely doomed.
Don't forget though, Jesus told George W. Bush that invading Iraq was the right decision.

This kid didn't ask you to like him, but his belief in God is certainly an odd reason to hate him.
Aren't there worse things to care about
also
anyone have a link to that actual questions asked in the survey?

If we're actually getting into football,... I agree injuries played a part. But, I think Tebow presents a completely different type of QB to cover. He's known to not have a good arm, but he's a very good runner. I think the Steelers played up (put more men in the box), to try to cover the run. And basically said, "if your WRs beat us on the outside you can have it... but, Tebow will have to beat us with his arm". He did.
In my opinion, analysts were getting on him because he has a different throwing motion than most QBs (that and, ummm... for some, it bothers them that he is overtly religious - see this thread). Anyway sticking with football, he may not be quite as accurate. But, the difference is, like a Mike Vick, he makes defenses adjust to his running ability. So, he opens things up on the outside; so it's not as necessary to have great accuracy. On top of that, in my opinion, although he doesn't have the accuracy, Tebow prepares and reads defenses a bit better than Mike Vick and is just plain bigger. So, although he has a lot of negatives to his game, his size and running ability make up for them.
Oh... and yeh, God likes him, so that's probably why he's good too.
Edit - one addition... I watched MoneyBall last night, great movie btw... but, in it, they showed that baseball players were often cast off if they played unconventionally. For example, they showed a pitcher who was valued very low because of his odd throwing style, but yet his statistics were through the roof. I think Tebow fits this sort of mold. He's got a very, very odd and slow throwing motion and he doesn't seem terribly accurate, but like I said above, he makes up for that in other areas.
