I met a girl (now my wife) when she was training to be a nurse in Dumfries, I hated my work, and , I have to say, the drink/drugs aspect of the town, so when she suggested moving 'home' I jumped at the chance. I deliberately haven't lost the accent though, I get a lot of 'you've a lovely accent' and funny looks because of some of the words and phrases I use.
One of my favourite 'funny look' phrases, especially when watching football is 'he couldnae hit a coo on the erse wi' a shovel' I think they think I'm Icelandic or something...
