PJ Billboard Munk/Maxx vs. Klausen Easy Street

edited December 2011 in Lost Dogs
If you could only have one just for the art aspect (not because you were at the show), which would you prefer?

Easy street, still one of my favorite prints.

    Why not (V) (°,,,,°) (V) ?
  • Do not own either, was not at either show but there is something cool imo about that billboard. I'd go with the billboard. I like the color scheme personally. Both very cool however.

    Easy Street
  • Not knowing anything about either of them, or what show they were for, I'd pick the bottom one.

  • Thanks guys. I have a straight trade offer on EBeans. My Billboard for their a/p Klausen Easy. I have been wanting the Easy Street for so long. I think I may have to pull the trigger here
  • Going purely on the art, I'd take the top poster by country mile. It's more colourful, more detailed and more refined. I'm surprised the Easy Street is a Klausen. He has waaaaaaaay better work than that (eg.Toronto with the dragon/house, Virginia Beach 2008, Portugal/Spain 2006...the list goes on). Out of the two pictured in the original post, I'd opt for the top one, which I think was by 3 artists, if memory serves.

    hands down easy street ..

    1) the billboard print will drop in price ALOT with in the next few months ...( i still dont get the hype)
(the easy street will do nothing but go higher ..as an investment its an easy trade)

    2) the colors on the billboard give me headaches after looking at for more then a few minutes

dont get me wrong but i love the work of both artiest ... but those two posters are in a world of their own.they dont compare , they dont even belong in the same room together .... the pj20 billboard you frame and hang in your basement and forget about it ... the Easy street print you frame and hang some place in your house so people can see it .. there is a story behind the print .plus the art on easy street is effing cool

i would pull the trigger before the other person realizes the mistake they are making .

    my two cents
have you seen the colors of my fathers eyes

Agree (except 2 artists). If you were at either , that raises the value of them (and since more folks were at AV, there's more intrinsic value in that one Vs the age of the other). I think the bottom one is a mess (poorc dom? What group is that?). I guess just not my cup of tea. I do realize I'm probably a minority on that here.

But - it doesn't matter what we think. If you like Easy Street more and would enjoy that on your wall more, then go for it. Much like the other person is making no mistake if he would enjoy the AV one more. Other folks' approval doesn't matter. Choose which one YOU like.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

Is there not a story behind the billboard print? I think there is a fucking cool story behind it. I watched the artists create this billboard over the weekend during the two best Pearl Jam shows that I have been two. Watching the artists side by side working during the weekend festivities was awesome. Arriving on friday and seeing a Vitamin Water add, and leaving on sunday with a completed Pearl Jam billboard was really a beautiful thing to watch unfold. While people might not enjoy the look of the poster, let's not take away the fact that it does have a story, a fucking awesome one at that.

Oh, and I like both prints. I think you should do what you feel is best. Whichever one you will enjoy in your house more should be the one you choose.

  • From an artistic perspective, Easy Street was one I never understood why people thought it was so great. I think its one of his worst. Not a huge fan of the billboard either, but i think its a little better than Easy Street.

For those that keep saying the Billboard will drop in value, I hope it does (I need one). But i keep thinking it wont. Pj20 was such a huge milestone with a large number of fans attending. Only 200 prints for those hardcore fans. and i'm not sure of the "story" behind easy street, but isn't the story behind the billboard print so much better? we saw the print being made throughout the weekend and it was the first chance alot of us got to meet the artists. it may level in value around 4-500, but can we see it dropping?

then look at the trend at easy street values. people saying "easy street will only accumulate in value." im not an expert in graphing, but the line representing the price trend is pointing downwards. the average of easy street is much higher than the six month average (by $200).

Its true that ALL PJ prints (even some 98s dropped in value). so really nothing is safe. but what has held value are the prints that are in short supply, which is why i think the billboard print despite its artist shortcomings will probably hold its value.
  • Good discussion going here. As mentioned, it should come down to what I personally like better but I'm realizing that I like the art and stories behind both! Decisions, decisions...

Mixed crowd here though. All interesting perspectives for sure!

I have both now but I like the billboard print better. Maybe that is because I was at PJ20, I don't know. Both are cool but I think the art on the billboard is way more attractive.

    Good Luck.

That bridge print is kind of ugly. So outside of Ed's sig, the print kind of sucks IMO. And since it's the second go around for EV as an artist demand is down because supply is up. That's why that print has steadily declined since its release.
  • From a strictly artistic perspective, I would choose the Billboard print. Not only is it more artistically suited to my taste, but it's pretty awesome to look at in person. However, art is subjective and all that should matter here is which one you prefer.

As far as other reasons...I would still choose the Billboard print. Getting to see the billboard created at PJ20 was an event within the event...another "performance," if you will, that everyone who was there got to watch unfold. Seeing the two visual artists collaborate (just like the musicians did on stage) to create something beautiful for the fans was spectacular. Picking up fan club tickets on Friday and seeing a Vitamin Water ad...and leaving Sunday to a completed work of art was really astonishing. The fact that they recreated it to allow fans (albeit a limited number of us) to actually own what they witnessed is incredible to me. I would pick the Billboard hands down.

Best of luck on your decision!

It's really not close and shouldn't even generate a discussion.
