Went along to see We bought a zoo yesterday and thought it was a really great little movie.

Two points of note - Hunger Strike is played, along with Cinnamon girl and few other really cool songs.

And during one scene in the movie Matt Damon can be seen wearing a Backspacer tshirt when he's flicking through photos on his laptop.

I'd recommend seeing the movie it was a pleasant surprise.

My 11 year old caught the Backspacer shirt...
And there is no greater feeling in the world than to see all 3 of your kids turn to you and scream during a movie... "Dad... it's Hunger Strike"!!!

My 3 year old screamed "EDDIE" when his part of Hunger Strike came up. I could not have been more proud.

Also, a main character's name is McCready.

    Great movie!

 I can only hope one day my unborn children will do the same.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that caught the Backspacer shirt. I thought I was mad for noticing it. Very good movie, a return to form for Mr.Crowe.

Nah, Matt Damon just received a mix cd from Cameron Crowe full of Eddie songs in an attempt to woo him with the feel that he wanted for the film.

Think I'll have to go see that movie for the thrill of seeing Matt Damon and his Backspacer t shirt, and Hunger Strike of course.

apparently the dude from Sigur Ros did the soundtrack to this. very different than Ed :)
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”

Hope to see this on Saturday!

  • I've not heard of this film, (and just looked and it's not out in the UK for months yet).

I really hoped someone on here had a great story about how they just gone out and bought a zoo on a whim... and somehow that had turned out to be pj related in some minor way.

On a mostly unrelated note, I saw in the credits from Young Adult that Even Flow was listed in the song credits, but wasn't played during the movie. Tons of references to Minneapolis bands, though.

I did like it. I put at a good, but not great, movie. I thought Descendents was much better (and I compare it to that because I saw it the next day). Charlize Theron is really good and carries the movie well. You're watching a train wreck of a person, which can make some people uncomfortable.

Cool, thanks. Gotta see it. I've heard really good things about Theron in it. I haven't heard of Descendents but I'll check it out.

  • So I just got back from seeing this movie with my friend Sam (samjam). Not only did we notice the Pearl Jam references that have already been mentioned, we also were able to experience our own Pearl Jam references. Ok this comes with a back story, so bear with me:
Sam and I went to Eddie's Beacon Theater shows back in June. The first night, we had the honor of sitting behind Matt Damon. Yes, it was actually him (we kind of have photos to prove it ;) ). So during the movie, every time Matt Damon did something that he did during the Eddie concert, we burst out laughing. For example: clapping, making out with his wife, generally just being present on the screen. When Hunger Strike started playing, we both laughed so hard we started crying. Both Matt Damon at the concert and in the movie were enjoyable experiences.

:o I love it when my fandoms collide! 8-) A kid who plays young Sam Winchester in Supernatural (Colin Ford) is also in this movie, and I'm a huge fan of that show!

Was he complaining that the shirt was too snug?

You have great powers of observation. Finally got around to seeing it and spent a fair bit of time looking for the Backspacer tshirt. Finally spotted it towards the end of the movie, and if you blink you'd miss it. Was anyone else silly enough to sit through all the credits just so they could see McCready's name come up in the songwriting credits? :D

Which is a bit mean considering that the original story is about a guy/zoo from Devon!
