yes. It seems like people are taking my post to mean I support drug use, which couldn't more less true. Godfather in particular, who posts resemble a Mr. Mackey type of response about drug use being "bad" in general. Yes, I agree, it can be. But our current way to approach drug use is not only not working or superfluous, it is deleterious. A paradigm shift is needed and I think a basic tenet of that approach is to acknowledge that people have a fundamental right to put whatever they choose into their own body.

the fact that we have been fighting a losing war on drugs for decades should open some eyes to the fact that the battle isn't winnable...it is like a war on terror...you will never be able to say "there...got em all"

So isn't it time to change philosophies...I mean there are far worse crimes than Pot...look at Madoff...can you imagine if we put our resources that are WASTED on the drug war toward catching the next madoff BEFORE he rips of billions...the priorities of our criminal justice system are so far misguided one feels that it must be done on purpose for some sinister end. I am no conspiracy theorist...but seriously...how can you continually throw billions into a losing proposition and call yourself good stewards of tax payer dollars?

guys we all have an opinion, most people don't see the actual danger of the drug world till it takes a family member or close friend, I don't ever see drugs being legal in the US but if were to happen I would deal with life much as I do now and come post with you good folks on the moving train...and maybe open a weed /hash bar

you my friend are full of poop. your eyes brown? now stop it and get a grip on yourself.

you have to wait until it is legal to sling weed/hash out your bar? you never supported the use of weed or hash until legalized? that is rich of you, Sir.

your weed/hash bar dream when legalized is a comical joke to me.

w/ all due respect i still love you but wow, dude, you are full of cow dung

but isn't that really the overall point, that use/addiction/abuse should be treated as medical not criminal
Exactly! Treat addiction as an illness/recovery and the criminal aspect with court, continuing effective treatment inside prisons or with effective drug correction orders in community settings.

I'm not stoopid! But if you're going to lock someone up, there should be replacement therapies available and help them find a way out! So what you're saying is let people follow the course of their addiction with no consequence, running a mock doing what they choose? Get a grip!

  • For me the real problem with the war on drugs is the marijuana. I think it should be legalized. I do not see it being any more destructive than alcohol. It is still a classified schedule I drug along with heroin and LSD!! It is rated higher than cocaine. That's crazy. However, I do not think cocaine, meth, heroin, or any other strong opiate should be legal. I believe we should be treating these drug dealers as terrorists. They are destroying countless lives and families and costing the country billions. For the casual user that doesn't have a drug problem it shouldn't be a big deal to do it at home, safely without the fear of getting caught. I mean if you don't have a problem and can handle your drugs then why do you get caught? You needed it so bad that you had to go to a shady place to buy it and were pulled over? You couldn't wait to smoke/shoot/snort it somewhere safe and had to risk doing it in plain sight? If you know something is bad for you, you know you might get busted doing it, and you know it finances death and murder, but you need it so bad that it you have to risk it, you may have a problem. I'm not bullshitting about the terrorism though. I really think the defense department should be more involved in protecting the country from drugs then political and religious extremists. For those who claim that it should be legalized because a person has the right to damage their own body, I agree. But it doesn't. Addiction is a disease that not only infects the host but sickens all who come in contact with it. Friends, family, the workplace, schools, and random strangers who are caught between the crossfire.

sorry you took it that way, I went thru a rehab program and paid for it myself and did not get any funding
it was my choice to do drugs and my choice to get clean, my point of stupid stupid stupid is this...you all want to legalize drugs then then call addiction a illness that will be covered by state or federal funding no doubt...that would be setting up people to fail at the cost of the hard working tax payers and that is stupid !...don't ya think ;)
