Yep, I've been there. Not very many places, but some nice ones like Toronto. I had to step over homeless people at each crosswalk.

Are you saying homelessness is a larger problem there than in the U.S.?

Nope, I said while I was in Toronto I literally had to step over or around homeless on many crosswalks...each was not accurate. Just a true story.

This is my point when repeatedly bringing this stuff up. I have said before he makes some sense with his policy, but the dude is going to implement policies at home that are infused with racism and homophobia (see: his voting record that demonstrates that he's pretty regressive when it comes to various public policies).

I'd simply ask you this question:

What policies would he implement that are "racist" or "homophobic"? I know of no such policies. In fact, I think one could easily could the current President is much more "racist" and/or "homophobic". For example, look at how the African American unemployment rate skyrocketed under this President. Were they pro-black policies? The data says "nope"... they were anything but "pro-black".

Do I think Obama is racist because his policies resulted in horrible trends in African American unemployment? No, I don't. But, my point is there's more data to back up Obama's policies being racist than Ron Paul's. Yet, neither are racist in my opinion. It's simply they have different views on what works and what doesn't.

To me, the people who are racist are the people who continue to focus on the race issue over and over. That seems to be done by one individual over and over in this thread, not naming names or anything, but it does seem to be the sole focus one person....
Any policy he has that panders to the "free market" whereby that market has been dictated and pushed by straight, rich, white, men's interests (which is essentially his whole economic policy) is inherently racist. On its surface they seem "fair", but you're giving centuries of unfairness and those that benefit a HUGE head start on anyone else who wants to enter the free market. People who look at the small shifts that have benefitted minorities over the last 40 years for better and worse, and for progress and regress and say "all right we've done enough let's play on the free market" are not looking at the overwhelming evidence that demonstrates that this is a fallacy. Continuing down this road with a populace that is dominated by rich white men's interests, beliefs and so on will lead to greater inequality. Yes, one who believes in this threads namesakes' hopes, can hide behind the suggestion that his policy's are "fair" but that has no relation to reality.

Have you ever heard the term "reverse-racism"? Do you think the policies you support fit the bill? If so, why or why not?

I am a Canadian and have lived here all my life and have not yet met any Canadian who wants to be an American. Not one. You are embarassing yourself by talking about something you clearly understand so little about. We are not the same. We have alot of similarities but also alot of differences.

    Suggestion:

Everybody stop making ignorant, blanket declarations about other countries' attitudes. It goes both ways -
Americans - stop saying stupid shit about Canada
Canadians - stop saying stupid shit about America

    Can we move on now?

I've seen this cock competition derail several threads in the past week alone, it is getting old.

i think we need to move past this canada vs. US thing ... i've never once said Canada is superior to the States ... comparing the two places doesn't really serve any purpose ...

the issue here really is that for some people - there first reaction to any criticism is to get defensive and start spewing off ... any kind of objectivity and one can see america is fucked up ... and that there needs to be real change ... none of this flip flopping between two sides of the same coin stuff that so many people get hung up on ...

There is definitely a lot wrong with a lot of countries, including the USA.

Condescending posts being one of them.

The biggest difference between Americans and Canadians is that Americans put ketchup on everything and Canadians put mayonnaise on everything.

It's not hard to assimilate to either region, thus subtle differences.

Thus, any non-white left to operate in a free market is automatically disadvantaged. Wow. Wow. Wow. Who's racist?

According to OWS, Obama's decisions have pondered to rich, straight, white, males (not sure if redheads w/ freckles are included or not  ).

So what is the difference? The Man is always going to be The Man in your eyes. Since you're still feeling so much white guilt, Obama has not done a damn thing. What difference will Ron Paul make?

don't think RW is a ron paul supporter ...

i totally agree with RW on what he is trying to get across but i liken it to trying to explain the root cause of terrorism to folks ... people do not want to hear these viewpoints and instead of trying to dissect it - most dismiss it as absurd ... which is what is basically happening ...
