    This show sounds amazing!

It was my first show, and it was fucking spectacular! (except for my dumbass friend that caused them to NOT play Ledbetter)
    4/23/03 - Champaign, IL
    5/16/06 - Chicago, IL
    8/23/09 - Chicago, IL
    5/4/10 - St Louis, MO

    ...tickle my nausea...
  • Maybe I'm mistaken but one that rarely gets mentioned is New Year's 1992.
To me the original boot sounds far better than last year's official release.

Not that I'm a huge Dave A fan but on this one his drumming sounds fantastic.

Right, the setlist is plentiful in rarities and for me the performances of the rare songs are what make the show so good. I mean every one of them is excellent. Not that any of the more regular songs were bad but Speed Wash, Sonic Reducer, Alone, Garden, Dirty Frank and even the Stranglehold jam outshine them magnificently.

This however is with one exception and that is Porch. This is probably my favourite Porch on any boot ever. I won't go into a big description but suffice to say right from the start this Porch means business. The jam is amazing and Ed's improv fits perfectly.
    A nice fast-paced ending to a nice fast-paced show.

12/31/92 - The Academy: New York, NY [55m]
    attendance: 5,000
supporting: Keith Richards and The X-pensive Winos
set: Wash, Sonic Reducer, Why Go, Even Flow, Alone, Garden, Daughter, Dirty Frank, Oceans, Alive, Leash, Stranglehold jam/Porch
notes: Unusual fast version of 'Wash.' A short clip of 'Sonic Reducer' was broadcast on CBS's New Year's Eve broadcast. (One of the cameramen almost does an unintentional stagedive, camera and all.) Ed thanks Keith Richards, saying, "If it weren't for Keith, Mike McCready wouldn't even be here." The rare 'Dirty Frank' had not been played previously live in its entirety. 'Stranglehold' is a Ted Nugent song. Mike remarks after this jam, "They forced me to play it. I think Ted Nugent is a stupid idiot." Somewhat reluctantly, Ed and Mike join Keith for his encore song, 'Goin' Down.'

I think the Newcastle, Australia show from last November is probably destined to join those on that initial list.......it seems to have been the stand out show from 2006, that and San Diego

Newcastle was insanely good.... being my hometown didn't hurt a bit either... :)

I have 40 of the 2003 shows, and the one I seem to pick out the most is # 55, 06/22/03 from Noblesville, IN.

I don't know exactly why, but it just seems like they were reeeeealy on all night.

Great version of Porch, and although not very different from all the other performances, Corduroy just seems to have a little something extra on this night.

And I love Eddie's intro to Given To Fly........"I don't know about you, but we're taking tomorrow off, so we're gonna pretend it's Saturday night up here............have a great time"........Mr. McCready opens with the Given To Fly intro. Simply awesome!

So, there's my vote for 2003's hidden gem.

Ed in a really goofy mood. definitely some funny bits. when he talks about jeff being from a small town LOL

Best 2 night stand of 2006.

i went to all shows except syd3 on that oz 06 tour, and i agree that the adelaide 2 night stand was brilliant. 2nd row centre on night 1 and 2nd row mike night 2. the crowd on night 1 was unexpectedly very energetic, see the version of black for proof. sad and lip were played as requests. immortality was special. no woman no cry was a surprise little adlib with a little laugh with eds improv.

the arena was probably only 75% full on the 2nd night, but the vibe was still great consdering it was a quiet wednesday night in little old adelaide. i liked the chronological main set and miracles and satans bed as requests. the only gripe was that the setlist read RATS / SMALL TOWN... and they went with small town for the 2nd night in a row... but u cant have it all :)

ed was quite sick for both nights but put on such great shows, demonstrating just how good they are.. and how much effort they go to night in night out to please their fans.

the most underrated oz06 show though is sydney1. it actually had a good crowd (unlike syd2 which was a disaster.. with melbourne1 not much better). a magnificent release opener into rvm. acoustic nothingman as "an experiment" according to ed, was the highlight.

set: Release, Rearviewmirror, Severed Hand, Corduroy, World Wide Suicide, Animal, Marker in the Sand, Elderly Woman..., Given To Fly, I Got Shit, Daughter/(W.M.A.), Even Flow, Big Wave, Grievance, Wasted Reprise, Better Man, Do The Evolution
first encore: Man of the Hour, Nothingman, Gone, Black, Alive
second encore: Go, Why Go, Throw Your Hatred Down, Rockin' in the Free World
Yeh I've seen Pearl Jam, too. But I can't remember the dates.

I agree that Sydney 1 is underrated, but despite the lack of crowd participation, I feel that Sydney 2 has the best (band selected) setlist of the 2006 Aussie leg. The sad thing is that because of the poor crowd, the show was cut short

    Set 1
Do The Evolution, Hail Hail, Life Wasted, World Wide Suicide, Corduroy, Unemployable, Dissident(A Sort Of Homecoming)/Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, Even Flow, Army Reserve, Sad, Whipping, Not For You/(Modern Girl), Present Tense, Down, Comatose, Porch

    Encore 1
Low Light, Come Back, Daughter/(My Own Two Hands), Alive

    Encore 2
    Blood/(Atomic Dog), Baba O'Riley, Indifference
  • What a surprise this show turned out to be.

    05/02/03 - HSBC Arena: Buffalo, NY [164m]
    support act: Sparta
preset: You've Got to Hide Your Love Away (Ed solo)
set: Love Boat Captain, Brain Of J, Hail Hail, Save You, Corduroy, Elderly Woman, I Got Shit, Even Flow, Faithfull, Deep, Given To Fly, Spin The Black Circle, Wishlist, Green Disease, Insignificance, Black, Go
enc 1: Free Jazz, Driven To Tears, Better Man, Crazy Mary, Do The Evolution, Alive
enc 2: Soon Forget, Smile, Fortunate Son, Sonic Reducer, People Have The Power
enc 3: Baba O'Riley, Yellow Ledbetter
notes: During 'Hail Hail,' Ed forgets the next line after, "I get the words and then I get to thinking ..." and says "What's the next line, I always forget," not missing a beat. No talk until after 'I Got Shit': "Here it is, the second-to-last night of the tour of this leg ... going home for a while after this and watch the world turn round ... You'd always think that ... you'd want to see a band on their last night ... that's when they'd really let it all hang out ... but being in the band, we realize it's different ... it's really the second-to-last show" [that is the special one]. 'Faithfull' is subbed into the setlist in response to a sign on Mike's side, gets off to a bad start and is restarted. 'GTF' is dedicated to Buffalo filmmaker Vincent Gallo. Wishlist' is stretched to 9 minutes and contains a lovely tag, including:
"... I wish that I was a disease, a disease called love and peace
and I wish that I could spread, to every person in the land
and I know that eventually, and I hope that eventually
and I feel, I feel, feel; that it wont happen without you and me
it'll take you and me, it'll take you and me
and more than me, it'll take you
and more than me, it starts with two
and then becomes ten; and then becomes ten thousand
and then becomes ten million; and then becomes ... the truth
the truth, the future, and the truth
send home those troops, come on troops
    seek more troops ..."
Returning for the encore, the band seems to have trouble getting started and go into 'Free Jazz,' with Mike yelling "jazz jazz jazz ... experimental jazz!" until they find their way to the start of 'Driven To Tears.' At the start of the second encore, Ed notes toasts Buffalo, noting that they make the best Mozzarella in the world and he observes that venues such as the HSBC Arena often have curfews, and that breaking them costs bands lots of money. As people start booing, he says, "Mike McCready is gonna pay the fine tonight," (prompting a "Mike" chant). He then introduces Luke the uke and plops a Bill Gates mask atop the mic stand. Ed is confused whether the crowd is saying "Luuuuke" or booing. "Are you angry that it's black and white and not red, white and blue?" He talks about the mask, commenting, "He's a skinny little guy ... note the size of his penis," (or lack of same, as he sizes up the mic stand) leading to 'Soon Forget.' 'Smile' is played by request for a group of friends who attended the Uniondale show and held up various signs and towels with 'Smile' written on them. (After the Bushleaguer incident, Ed sees the 'Smile' signs and says to the group, "tomorrow night, tomorrow night, next show," and the band delivers.) For 'People Have the Power,' Ed invites a young lady ("Nana, from the heart of Buffalo") on stage to hold the lyrics up for him. At first she seems nervous, but as the song progresses, she is more confident and by the end, is rocking right out. Great singalong and a long, impassioned, powerful version with the crowd chanting back the chorus, Eddie yelling "let's hear you!!" and asking, "It's the ultimate goal, yeah?" Ed and Nana do a back-to-back lean, and Nana helps sing the closing chorus into the mic. At the song's end, Ed gives her a great, dramatic dip. This version is so good that most thought it was the close of the show and are stunned when the band returns for the third encore. When they come back to the stage, Ed says, "We had a democratic vote backstage and the verdict was: It's Friday night ... what the fuck." At the beginning of 'Baba,' the house lights are turned up and people from the stands rush the floor area as security give up trying to control the crowd as the band and the audience go crazy. Classic show.
  • Just listened to 3/5/98 Melbourne twice today! Wow, what a great show. The band was really tight, with a great setlist. The original In My Tree, a properly tempoed GTF, and Immortality & RVM in the same show!
  • Hmmm....Off the top of my head some of my favorites besides those listed would be:

    Randall's Island 2 '96
    Melbourne 3 '98
    Seattle 2 '98
