Great shows that we forget

There seems to be a list of shows which are considered by most to be representative of the band at their best. In this list we see the likes of Atlanta '94, Soldier Field '95, MSG II '98, Boston III from 2003 etc.
But since the Binaural tour we've had access to every show of each tour, so obviously some get forgotten, even though they might be just as good if not better than the 'classics'. So i figured i'd bring up one or two for discussion to see what you guys think about them.
04/29/03 - Pepsi Arena: Albany, NY
support act: Sparta
set: I Am Mine, Whipping, Last Exit, Blood, Cropduster, Daughter/(Song X)/(ABitW)/(Androgynous Mind), Even Flow, Ghost, Elderly Woman, Love Boat Captain, Wishlist/(improv), Save You, Once, Corduroy, Better Man, Porch
enc: People Have The Power, improv, Do The Evolution, Given To Fly, All Or None, Alive, Baba O'Riley
notes: Crowd is very, very involved, singing throughout both sets. The band comes out to a thunderous ovation and the energy did not wane. After 'I Am Mine,' the band kicks it right into high gear with 'Whipping,' 'Last Exit' and 'Blood' revving things into high gear. 'Elderly Woman' is dedicated to people from Utica, Ithaca and Boston (biggest cheer). 'Wishlist' includes "lucky as Albany" and "Charger's hood." The improv tagged on 'Wishlist' is a very extended outro with Ed leading the way on guitar. During 'Porch,' Ed escorts Mike around the stage to play to the people in the back, and does a call-response thing toward the end of the song. When the band take the stage for the encore, several people in the Ten Club sections hold white signs with peace signs on them and the band flashes the peace sign back. Ed selects a young woman holding a sign with a peace sign on it out of the front row (Rachel) to be his "human music stand," holding the lyrics to 'People Have The Power.' She shakes hands with everyone, except Stone who gets a huge hug. He takes a photo of himself and Rachel with her disposable camera; then Stone takes a shot of Ed and Rachel. Ed then photographs Rachel with the rest of the band. 'People' is followed by a short improv for Rachael:
"Oh Rachel was a girl, she sat in the front row,
Next thing that you know, she's part of the fuckin' show,
Rachel was a girl, she wished peace on the world,
She came all dressed in white, he said, "Hey man that's right,"
'Cause peace is the way, peace could be the way,
Peace is not far away, if you believe it today.
Rachel!"
It is believed that a curfew at Albany kept the show short, with Ed checking his watch during the encore. Ed introduces 'All Or None' as "a quiet number from our last album that we wanted to try." The version is nearly flawless (unlike the Showbox 12/5/02 version), with Ed nailing the lyrics and the changing vocal inflections from verse to verse, and Mike's wailing solo gradually slowing to a mournful close. They rip into a fierce 'Baba' with Ed running in big circles all the way around the stage, tossing a tambourine into the crowd in the back, ending a short but razor-sharp show. After 'Baba,' Mike grabs another guitar to continue, but is told there isn't enough time to play another song. A barn burner of a show ... they brought the place down and the band seemed to be in good spirits, with lots of jumps from Jeff, dancing and jumping around from Ed, but not a lot of chat.
The show doesn't get talked about a whole lot because it was so short, but i don't think that's fair. Despite the shorter length, it's an absolutely rip-roaring show. Unusual opener but every song is performed amazingly well with the band just on fire. People Have The Power sounds more spare of the moment and so more fun than the Buffalo version a few days later, and Blood so early in the set is just killer. The fact that it's short means there's no time to get bored of the performance. From start to finish, it's so tight and energetic. This is easily one of their best performances from the Riot Act tour.

I saw PJ in Denver, only time i've ever seen them and they opened for Tom Petty, that really pissed me off because when I bought the tix, they made it seem as if PJ was the headline...anyways the show was short...too short, and a handful of songs I wanted them to play, they didn't but I still had the time of my life and I'm so grateful that I got to see my favorite band of all time.

I don't know exactly why, but it just seems like they were reeeeealy on all night.
Great version of Porch, and although not very different from all the other performances, Corduroy just seems to have a little something extra on this night.
And I love Eddie's intro to Given To Fly........"I don't know about you, but we're taking tomorrow off, so we're gonna pretend it's Saturday night up here............have a great time"........Mr. McCready opens with the Given To Fly intro. Simply awesome!
So, there's my vote for 2003's hidden gem.

soundcheck: Driven To Tears (x6), U, Deep
set: Do The Evolution, Corduroy, Save You, Deep, Dissident, Elderly Woman, Even Flow, Jeremy, Thumbing My Way, You Are, I Am Mine, Habit, Untitled/MFC, Given To Fly, Nothingman, Blood, Porch
enc 1: Driven To Tears, Better Man, Crazy Mary, Know Your Rights, Fortunate Son
enc 2: Blue Red Grey, Black, Alive, Baba O'Riley
notes: Ed says a quick, "All right ... let's go!" and PJ opens with a slamming 'DTE' in this smallish venue shaped like a UFO. The sold out Illinois crowd is more than receptive to Pearl Jam, especially with this ferocious opener great Stone solos throughout. The fast pace continues through a welcome 'Deep' with killer Mike solos and Ed's intense lyrical delivery. While changing instruments, Ed greets Champaign and says he feels like a lion in a cage and asks if there are any Christians who want to be eaten tonight. He dedicates 'Elderly Woman' to towns like Gurnee, Rockton and Kankakee. Someone yells out "Cuba!" which amuses him. Big response from the audience, who promptly lights up the place with their lighters and the crowd sings the "hearts and thoughts" section. During 'Even Flow,' a fan tosses a camera to Ed, who takes a photo of Mike soloing and then tosses the camera back. 'Jeremy' is well-received and worth the price of admission simply to watch Stone pogo while yelling out the whole "ooh, ooh, ooh" section with a huge grin on his face in unison with the crowd. This show is having the feel of stepping back in time about 10 years. 'Habit' is dedicated to those high on crystal meth and there is no "speaking as ..." tag. As usual, Ed plays around with the lyrics to 'Untitled' ("Lets get to Chicago, get drunk and talk politics ..."; Assembly Hall is on campus and no alcohol is served) leading to a high energy 'MFC' with Mike running all around the stage. 'Blood' gets an insane response; this is the first time it's been played in the midwest since Soldier Field. Band is animated, Ed is thrusting the mic stand like the old days and the stage is bathed in red lights. 'Porch' follows as the perfect closer after 'Blood.' While it isn't the 12-minute Atlanta 94 version, it has great solos from Mike and Stone, plus Ed leading the crowd in a call/response of noises and phrases during the bridge. Ed goes to Stone's side and he picks up a cable, swinging it as if he would catch it over the rafters and climb (quite amusing). When the band hits the stage again, Ed says, "We don't have class tomorrow ... do you?" The crowd yells, "no!" and Ed says, "Class my ass is what you're saying" and an enthusiastic "Stone" chant gets going. Matt starts the drum beat that would become The Police's 'Driven To Tears,' which has even the die-hard fans in total shock. After 'Crazy Mary,' "OK class ... a bit of history," introduces a searing ' Know Your Rights,' with Ed jumping all over his monitor wedges making hand gestures. The audience is in a state of bewilderment, and it exploded as the band went into 'Fortunate Son,' giving the song an amazing response. A very strange, high energy encore! Ed returns, standing motionless, then looking around shrugging as if "where's the band?" Fans are screaming out songs. Ed responds, "We're proponents of open honest debate ... the ballots are closed ... I am your leader!" He starts talking about 'Soon Forget' and how it was "stolen off a song off Who By Numbers. Some one interrupts yelling "Yellow Ledbetter" and Ed responds, "Hold your horses, shut the fuck up; cause you see we were gonna and now we won't and that's just how we are ... you're not helping matters at all." (And it WAS on the setlist and it WASN'T played ... lesson learned: don't interrupt.) He continues that Pete Townshend is his hero and loves Chicago and plays, 'Blue, Red, Grey' ... another huge surprise. The crowd sings the second verse of 'Black' when Ed points the mic to the crowd. Ed backs up and ends up leaning against Stone. Alive' has the crowd singing note for note, pogoing and chanting the "yeah" section. By the end of the song, the crowd is ready to blow the roof off of the place, and that's exactly what happens when the house lights come up, the band starts 'Baba,' and the whole place just goes completely, clinically insane, the band included. Mike, Jeff and Stone are pogoing and running around like wild animals, doing strange dances, Boom grinning his ass off, flailing his hair around and Matt attacks his drums. Ed goes through at least five tambourines. Pearl Jam at it's best.
Very underrated.
See you in June!!!!!!!!!
Eddie: Dublin & London
This show sounds amazing!
I´m with you...but not in june
RE Fucking Donkulous Show. One of the better memories I have in my PJ career. Being dead center on the rail with you and other good friends certainly didnt hurt the situation.
But, any show with Light Years, Trouble, Harvest Moon, Sad, Blood, In My Tree, Down and that awesome version of Black is a fuckin AWESOME show in my book.

support act: Supergrass
set: Of The Girl, Go, Corduroy, Grievance, Last Exit, Tremor Christ, Elderly Woman, Insignificance, Animal, Nothing As It Seems, I Got Shit, (Romanza)/Better Man/?, Even Flow, Daughter, Light Years, Jeremy, Given To Fly, Rearviewmirror
enc 1: Don't Be Shy (Ed and Jeff), Black, Crazy Mary, Do The Evolution, Spin the Black Circle, State of Love and Trust, Parting Ways
enc 2: Rockin' In The Free World
notes: Great show, great crowd and Ed is obviously very pleased. Two-thirds of the people were in their seats for Supergrass! Mike is doing some serious flirting and mugging for the people in the front during 'Last Exit.' At one point, he gives a mischievous grin, takes a running leap on top of his monitor and falls back immediately. This is followed by another grin and he did a great butt-rock jump-kick, then falling back, laughing. Ed addresses the crowd for the first time after 'Tremor Christ.' "Good evening, Boise, Idaho ... it's funny because you go around meeting other bands and you know other bands, and you're part of this musical community and they say 'well it really great you guys have been playing 10 years, congratulations and all that and then they say, 'God, you must have played Boise" and you go "Uh" (Ed looks off, rubbing his chin) I don't think we did. I think we skipped them a couple of times, we cancelled (boos from the crowd). Ed continues, "That was when Mike McCready was doing the bookings, so blame him. So now they find out that you've never played here and they say 'you're not even a band' So thanks for hanging in there with us." Ed introduces 'Elderly Woman' as being about Moscow, Idaho. He draws half a heart on his chest with his finger. 'Better Man' is intro'ed as "a sad song to make you feel better." Ed breaks a string and gets really into the song, jumping around until the string breaks off completely. The tag has "I know" repeated and something about being lonely or alone in the lyrics. The 'Daughter' tag is a echo-song; Ed sings "ooohhhh" and the crowd responds immediately and loudly. After a few oohh's and awww's he sings, "You're beautiful" with the crowd responding several times and Ed smiling. Then he sings "I feel beautiful" with the crowd singing back. Very moving! 'Light Years' features the incredible Stone solo (and his groovy plaid pants). At one point, a guy named Ben makes it on stage and walks up to Ed. Ed asks him what his name is and how he got up there. He says he's from Utah and promptly gets escorted off by security. To start the encore, Jeff sits with his stand-up bass, Ed sits down with his acoustic and says, "It's uh, you just don't know what it's like to be at the end of this, well you probably do know what it's like to take up a challenge and accomplish it. We're almost home and I just hope that, after this kind of intense year it would be great to end on a great show, so I just that Seattle is at least as good as this." He introduces 'Don't Be Shy' as a song they found to help them get through hard-core depression. The wine bottle is passed to the crowd during 'Crazy Mary' and features a lengthy 'Stairway to Heaven' tag by Mike. 'Parting Ways' is beautiful with Matt really shining. Ed and Mike are leaning against each other, playfully pushing during 'RITFW.' Ed says that they would never not play Boise again.

03/03/95 - The Indoor Stadium: Singapore, Singapore [110m]
support act: Mudhoney
set: Release, Go, Last Exit, Spin the Black Circle, Tremor Christ, Corduroy, Not for You, Lukin, Even Flow, Dissident, Animal, Deep, Jeremy, Rearviewmirror, Immortality, Alive, jam/Blood
enc 1: Daughter/(ABitW-II)/(W.M.A.)/(Little Wing teaser), Why Go, Porch
enc 2: Sonic Reducer
notes: The show is interrupted periodically with PA announcements stating that the show wouldn't continue if the crowd continued moshing (Singapore being extremely strict). PJ tells the crowd that's it's OK but to "keep it cool." The jam before 'Blood' is a funny 'Right Here Waiting' [Richard Marx - eek!] tease with these lyrics:
whatever you do
wherever you are
you can fuck [?]
wherever you piss
wherever you shit
make sure not to fall asleep in it
wherever you pee [?]
wherever you spit
make sure you're not caught by the cops
don't want to be caned
don't want to be shot
i just wanna... rock
During the 'Porch' jam, Ed shakes people's hands in the front, saying, "Hi, how are ya ... nice to mee you ... glad you could be here." In the middle of the show, Ed starts jamming the mic stand into the stage, breaking open a hole. The whole band disappears into it after the first set and returning for the encore back through the opening. Mark Arm joins PJ for 'Sonic Reducer' and invites everyone to an "afterparty" at a small island off Singapore at the end of the show.
4/95 BIGO (Before I Get Old) article
It gets slagged a lot because it was essentially the shortest show of the our. I was there, and I will argue adamently that while the show was going on it was an absolute rager.
