They did that one time at the Palace Theater. I only made it for "It's a Wonderful Life" because I was working during "A Christmas Story." I wish the Palace would do it again.

:) After that they had Joel Hodgson from MST3K come over and did a piece called "Riffing Myself" which included a Q & A, signing, and then an MST3K Christmas episode :D

I cant stand watching on regular tv with all the edits. That movie is even better if you watch the Unrated version on Bluray.

I'm curious how it is set. Isn't the original set in the 50s, with him as an adult telling the story?
So is this set in the 80s? Is he 90 years old narrating it?

I read it's gonna take place in the 70's. Ralphie and his family go back to his hometown after the death of his old man.

I hope they have a Huggy Bear type character in it.
Maybe Ralph can be a cop and be on a case to take down Farkus.

I never watched the original sequel and I won't be watching this one either, unless my kid wants to watch.  The original is gold, though.

I believe the original was set in 1940 or so. Maybe even still in the 30s. You can tell from the radio programs and the fact that people are still dealing with fallout from the great depression.

I think you're right. It does have a pre-war, still in the depression vibe to it.

i don't think they ever mentioned specifically what year it takes place although that's probably a good guess as to what year it's around. Although to be honest when i first started watching it I always thought it took place in the 40's/50's.

Yes. I read online that it was 1939/1940.

I've read that it's not supposed to be a specific year but is early 40's.
Wizard of Oz characters in parade mean its post 1939

Definitely pre-WW II in the US, and you're right, the Oz characters dates it too - 1940 seems right to me. Apparently the history of the decoder ring and the Little Orphan Annie radio program fits that too.

It is never stated.  I read the book and I don't remember if it's stated there either.  At any rate, in the DVD extras the director and Shepard both say they were looking for a late 30s-40s time frame.
  • Watched it last night and I gotta say it wasn’t totally awful. Some funny parts and Ralphie brings it all home at the end.
