    Chili Peppers
    Beasties
    GNR
    Donovan
    The Faces
    Laura Nyro

....Heart, Joan Jett and The Cure didn't make it
I see it will be both Small Faces and Faces. As a big Steve Marriott fan, I'm glad. Also blues guitarist Freddie King will be inducted, another excellent choice.

blood sugar sex magik was pretty important, in my personal opinion. revolutionary? yeah, maybe.

and there's no way paul's boutique was the first rap album to use samples.

just kinda, you know, replying to everything at once.

wonder how many artists released new albums the same year they made it into the hall of fame - at least 2 this year.

well of course it's not because it's not even the first Beastie Boys album to use samples. Licensed To Ill is. And while Licensed also isn't the first rap album to use samples, I think it may be the first to sample hard rock songs. "Walk This Way" by Run DMC can't truly be considered "sampling" because it's really a straight forward cover but with Steven Tyler singing the chorus. "Rhyming and Stealing" featuring that signature Zeppelin drum beat and a badass Sabbath riff was really a "first of it's kind" type of song. Before that, it seems like all rap samples came from either jazz, funk, or previous rap songs.

The rock hall is a joke. When u have a Britney outfit next to a Micheal glove i wonder where the rock is. Its a top 40 museum only. Been there 3 times bc im the music guy in town. Seriously, Madonna?? Rock?? Not.

RCHP and the Beasties are in the Rock HOF before Rush, Yes, Kiss, Alice Cooper and Peter Gabriel as a solo artist??? The Rock HOF blows

Oh fuck Peter Gabriel dude. If you're gonna complain about acts that should be in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame but aren't, complain about Iron Maiden and Deep Purple not being in before you waste your breath on Kiss and Peter Gabriel.
Sorry about that chap....for some reason Deep Purple had completely slipped my mind....as much as I love Rush, Yes and Peter.....Deep Purple belongs in the HOF well before all of those mentioned 8-) .....and for some reason, I can't picture Iron Maiden having been around long enough....I guess I don't want to admit to my age either.

i love kiss & they have been getting snubbed since 1999? deep purple, rush & the other band mentioned (i forgot already-damn green tobacco) all deserve to be in. those bands did a lot for hard rock in the 70's- why does all this pop crap get in when it's called the ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME?!? like neil young said- it's a hard rock cafe without the hamburgers. kiss may not be musically the best band but their influence is far reaching & they continue to tour & make records. gene is a pompous ass, but that show & that's what it is a show is amazing! it would be nice for them to get some kind of credit for their contribution to rock n roll.

  • ive made similar comments before but, name one rock song from the beastie boys? lets just rename the thing to the rock and pop hall of fame or let someone else create a hall of fame for the non-rock acts.

Sabotage, their most famous song, is rock song. And about a third of their entire catalog are instrumental funk jams. So while I guess I see where you're coming from, I wouldn't lump the Beastie Boys in with Madonna, Michael Jackson, and other "pop" acts that are in the rock hall.

Rap groups from early on had been sampling hard rock for the bass and drum beats (Aerosmith was always a favourite as well as Billy Squier's "The Big Beat")

The Beastie Boys were rock/punk rock band before they started doing any "rap"/hiphop. That said, a ton of their songs are rock. I don't know of too many other bands that have been able to fuse so many genres of music. On one album, you can get rap songs, rock, funk, soul...then they release an entire instrumental album (The Mix Up). Also listen to "The In Sound from Way Out"...another instrumental release.
What makes a "rock" band? They play guitar, drums, bass, piano, various other instruments....I guess I'm missing something.... :?
