agree... though I like those records better...
... I am not in the business of being liked anymore ...

  • They are to much "crowd pleasures" nowaydays. Running around hanndclapping through Alive and stuff. Naw.

    More energy......well it's a different energy

    Better musically?.......No

Agree. Nowadays the concert is like a big party. Full energy and optimistic

Musically Eddie is lack of air when he sings comparing with early days
2000's and 2003's have slowly tempos in some songs

finally if you can hear some 1995's concerts you can be aware that the ambient was less optimistic, less happy ... There is some kind of different catarsis, deepest feeling, rage

I hate betterman karaoke, and daughter tag feedback (i prefer the stuff and nonsense tag)

Ed is so out of breath these days even though he can still hit notes its waaaay more of a struggle even when he does.

Matt's drum sound sucks now compared to 2000, plus his playing back then is just exceptional, and is amplified by the Ayotte.

The songs all arn't played at 9999 bpm

    list goes on

I think the 2000 boots are "boring", but maybe that is cuz of the setlists. Enjoy 2003 the most.
I'm the other way around. I love 2000, especially Europe and the latter half of US leg 2. I'm not the biggest fan of a huge bulk of the 2003 shows largely due the political edge of Ed's onstage talk. I'm not interested in politics enough to want to hear what I already know from the press at a rock concert. That's not to say there weren't some amazing shows and I do love hearing the Riot Act songs which I think should still get played more. The 2003 boots were brilliantly recorded and mixed but as a tour it was overshadowed by the war on terror for my liking. 1994 - 2000 is my favourite period but they are still awesome live.
Like a book among the many on a shelf...

    Dublin 02 Arena - 22/6/10. Belfast Odyssey Arena - 23/6/10. London Hyde Park - 25/6/10. Berlin Wuhlheide - 30/6/10.
    Manchester MEN - 20/06/12. Manchester MEN - 21/06/12

I'd take Pearl Jam now I think. There are plusses and minus, but I think overall Ed is a better singer now. He doesn't have the range, but he is better.

I can't listen to Benaroya Hall's show anymore because Ed's delivery is so boring then compared to how he sings now. His whole delivery on Riot Act was toned down. His solo tour was one of the best things to happen to this band. He became a better performer because of it.

Just listen to how he sings Man of the Hour and Around the Bend now versus 2003. So much better.

    !!!!!!!!!!! THIS!!!!!!!! ^^^^

Can I buy you a pint if you're coming to Europe?
  • 2000 is the best!!! Eddies voice, the guitars weaving, imo they never played better, very intense, very tight, no faults.
Compare 2000 boots to 2008 boots, 2008 is far far behind.
    2006 Arnhem - Antwerp - Paris 2007 Nijmegen - Werchter 2009 Rotterdam 2010 Nijmegen - Arras - Werchter 2012 Amsterdam - Werchter - Arras - Berlin 2014 Amsterdam - Berlin - Werchter 2018 Pinkpop - London - Berlin - Werchter - London

That'll be because of Riot Act ;)

Gotta agree there... 2003 is my favourite after the '94 tour. I wish we had more soundboard boots from the '94 era.

For me the 2006 Tour was the best form of Pearl Jam! Especially the European shows. I mostly listen to the boots of the 2006 shows, all of them!

Wow, I couldn't disagree more. They've been on cruise control live since 2006. It's a party now. I get that some people prefer that. But in terms of shows where you walked out truly feeling like you'd just seen the greatest band in the world...I can't honestly say I've felt that way walking out of a single show since Philadelphia 2005. I always have fun, they're always excellent, and I never regret going, but it feels like each show has a ceiling to it now in terms of the heights it can reach, whereas pre-2006 it always felt like the sky was the limit when the lights went down.

Completely agree. So true. They seem incredibly flat to me these days. A lot of the songs are a mess and Eddie's lack of lung capacity is staggering on some shows, though I will say, Hamilton 2011 sounded pretty strong this morning. With that said, they haven't been able to match the intensity of that 1998-2003 time period on stage. It was different than the early 90's stuff, but in a good way. They seemed like a very mature, focused rock band then. These days, like others have said, the shows are more of a party atmosphere. Corduroy hasn't been the same since the 1998 and 2000 tours. They haven't nailed Insignifigance since 2000 and Grievance lost its fire after 2003. Not to mention, songs were played at a good speed then as opposed to the breakneck speed they are played at now.

I heard one of the Canada boots on PJ Radio yesterday, and was really dissapointed by Ed's voice, but it could be a bad night for him. (Saskatoon)

  • I completely agree with this. Not to take away anything from the 2000 tour, but since '03, to me, they have kicked it into overdrive. Sure, they have an off-show here and there, but overall, they are better now. I haven't listened to a 2000 boot from beginning to end in a very long time. Give me a boot from 03, 05, 06, 08, 09, 10 or 11 anytime though.
