This show is pretty awesome on the audience recording i have. Agreed. However, i wouldn't even say it's the best show at MSG, and i'm *only basing this on audio/video recordings, AS I'VE NEVER BEEN TO A SHOW AT MSG.
But of course. I'm wrong. Lol.
The L@TG show was fucking stellar. As was the other 2003 show. And the 2 2010 shows are amazing. I have the fan DVD's to both. I also have the DVD for 9/11/98, and there's nothing in it that really, whatsoever that would make me think it's the best show ever. I wouldn't even put it top 10.
Oh, and if we're talking about deafening roars... try being present (And i was) for the end of Footsteps at LA3 2009, when Ed out-of-the-blue introed CC. That shit was a fucking roar.
I guess it just comes down to the fact that the majority of this board thinks Pearl Jam is better now than they were in the 90's, and for me, that's not the case at all. Today's shows are super fun, energetic and the sheer number of songs makes them totally random. However, that same number of songs makes for frequently sloppy performances (much more so than from '94-'98) and also a watered down selection of songs. I'd take anything off of the first six albums over anything off of Crapspacer (except Got Some and perhaps Unthought Known for the crowd reaction). That's just me.

You have to factor in that a significant number of fans left the band when they changed their sound, so you'll hear only a small fraction of discourse in their dramatic change in sound. Those still around are those that get some level of enjoyment from their altered sound. Also those who were not around to hear the early live music so have only exposed themselves to their later years will have a smaller view to compare to. I've met fans who have no idea what the band once sounded like, and what made them so popular. I call this the "007 Effect". Those who only familiar with Roger Moore as James Bond will think he is the best of them all. ...when we all know Sean Connery was the best.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.

I saw my first show at 13 in '93 and I haven't stopped... that said, I've stuck around because I did enjoy some of Riot Act, about half of Pearl Jam, and Crapspacer was a real bottoming out for me. The thing is that in the past the misses didn't affect me as much. When you have Binaural and the "worst" song is Thin Air, it's a little bit more palatable than garbage like Speed of Sound, Johnny Guitar, Army Reserve, or Parachutes. Again, that's just an old fan who's kind of outgrown them talking, but I still make my 5 or so shows a year

Oh, i agree with you. My first show was in 1998, and i have most of that tour in audio, and i LOVE the 1998 tour, and IMO, it's their best. Those 1998 shows sound ridiculous. I also have a lot of shows from 1993-1996 including the whole 1995 and 1996 tours, which are also ridiculous. Take a listen to the San Diego and San Jose shows from 1995. Holy Fuck. I, thankfully, stuck around through the No Code > Binaural years, and it's def. one of the better decisions i made.
I will disagree however with Parachutes I got this in San Diego '09 and freakin' love it.
I think, to actually add to part of your argument, i randomly listened to Chicago 2000 last night and forgot how amazing a 2000 setlist is. If we got something like that now, we'd absolutely shit ourselves.

fuck the debate, let's see some more pics from katowice 2!!!
THAT is my favorite show for personal reasons and i wasn't even close to being anywhere near poland.
but i was at the three breath campaign shows in '98 and that was a fuck of a time. those were my first shows following my first ever concert experience at randall's island 2. i was treated well by PJ off the bat
but seriously, more info on katowice. i would trade my 20 show experiences for that one night.
Mine is Dave A. Even Flow will never be as good without him. But again, it's MHO.
Agree 10x.
EF w/ Dave A = AMAZING
EF w/ Matt C = bathroom break
yeah, but do people still care about evenflow these days?
let me see dave try and hang on an off he goes, all or none, in my tree, etc. don't think he would sound as sweet as jack or matt on PJ's more moody songs.
most of the best shows have come post 2000 or in 1992...depending on how you like your pearl jam. 94-98 have some gems, but i can't get down with any shows from those years being best ever
Haha, woah.
1994 to 1998 are by far the band's best years - live and on record.
Post-2000 shows don't even come close on a performance basis.
the binaural tour is the band's best tour to date. eddie and mike were ON practically every night.
the european leg produced some of the best pearl jam shows of all time.
best show i attended. ny 2 2010 was pretty close.
awesome experience...the band was on fire, best version of release. great baba, and a blasting alive at the end.
night 1 in 98 was not good, pretty short, some fuck ups, but a sweet soldier of love.
was a nice trip from germany just for those two shows.
