Haha. Zero complaints last night. Like Brendan said - one of those perfect nights. thankyou thankyou Pearl Jam.
Monday rocked with all the hits and rocking out songs, but last nite was much better. the difference was diversity and more crowd involvement.
did not expect Go as the opener, thought they'd open with a slow one, but they came out with a blast. made me so happy hearing Brain of J and others like Glorified G, Porch, Big Wave, WWS, Blood and Leash. Indifference was emotional cos Ed almost lost it and his voice was goin.
Not sure what happened before Low Light, Ed was talkin and then suddenly they went into it catchin Ed off guard as high scrambled to look at the setlist it seemed.
Other notes: the crowd went absolutely off for Mike and Matt durin Even Flow.
After Severed Hand Ed said this was a continuation of night one and sort of encore 3, which just set the tone for the evening.
i was sorry for my mate who came cos he really wanted to see Comatose and RVM which were played the other nite so wasnt expectin to hear it for the 2nd show.
Cant wait till Thursday, it will be special. Hope really to hear WASH open!!0 -
A Surprise Left wrote:Hey Auslistener I saw you last night, wasen't sure if you would remember me though. I had an awesome night and it was simply Pearl Jam and its very best. Kings of Leon really set the scene although I must admit I was a bit sceptical of them beforehand. I wouldn't rush out and buy one of their albums but they were very impressive. When Ed came out and played their very last song the crowd just went nuts.
It was fantastic to see Ed having a blast with those tamborines, brought such a smile to my face. I was singing along to just about every song (well the majority haven't nailed most of the newer stuff yet) and to hear songs like "Leash" and "Glorified G" was such a welcome surprise. Ed wasen't as political last night which to be honest was a welcome change, he and the rest of the band simply were having a great time. He stated that we were the best crowd of the Australian tour so far and judging from last night I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case.
Even Flow was just fantastic in my book, easily the highlight of the night which is saying a lot. Mike doing the solo behind his head what a sight! Matt going crazy on those drums and the 10 clubbers started a bit of a "Matt Matt" chant after that. To hear "Baba O'Reilly and "Crazy Mary" was also a highlight. It was simply an awesome night, if U2 is any better on Saturday then it will be jaw-dropping.
ahh hey dude - yeah i would have remembered you, oh well...maybe we'll run into eachother on thursday night? are you going?....doing any other cities?0 -
Great show!!
shitty seats up the back but it gives you a great perspective, and people were up and standing and singing all the way back of the arena.
Highlights:
DEFINITELY THE END OF CRAZY MARY- boom and mike playing off each other and it was a monstrous jam. Mike was on fire all night, that even flow solo was OUTSTOUNDING, it didn't seem like a generic improv, he took it up a whole level. And then Matt took over and again was fantastic.
MIKE was the star that night, and i could actually HEAR his guitar this time (cf. mel 1).
And 3 openers in a row to kick it off!! intense. I knew it was on when they started Brain of J-|

when i saw the setlist this morning i was sooooo pissed off i wasn't there ... especially seeing that Second Encore! Hubby and I were at Melbourne 1 and had to fly back home first thing yesterday morning so he could get to class for his studies ... He copped an earful this morning because of it!!! He at least had the grace to apologise for it!
I'm just hoping the boys replicate that second encore for either Adelaide or Perth! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!0 -

what a show! but before i tell yous about it ill tell yous about our interesting afternoon. we (me and led_zep) wanted to try meet the band after or before soundcheck so we walked to rod laver arena, and were looking for a way to get into the restricted carpark area where the bands vans rock up and leave to pick them up and drop them off. after circling the arena and looking for places we somehow found a way in through a carpark then a garbage area, we got in and sat down on the stairs pretending we were roadies or something on a break, and waited for the band to come out or arrive. we were heaps nervous cause we were in a restricted area where everyone had passes on their necks, but we didnt have any pearl jam clothes visible and pretended we were chilling. on the way there we saw lead singer and a roadie from kings of leon sitting on the grass outside having a joint haha. think they didnt want to be disturbed tho. anyway once we were in we waited ages but nothing. led zep goes fuck it lets go in the building through one of the administration doors that caterers and other ppl were going in and coming out of. this was a massive risk going into the arena but we did it. we walked around these hallways under the arena,we prob passed pearl jams change room or chill out room or something and didnt know, we found nothing tho so we took an elevator up a level which was the arena level, we somehow made our way in to around outside the arena where all the bars and merch stands are we couldnt believe it. there was no soundcheck by then. we walked past security ppl once or twice and confidently looked like we belong and they said nothing haha. we were shitting ourselves though. anway we went back outside and waited more. i think a security guard overheard led zep talking about last nights show which gave it away we were fans and he asked us we said yes and hi nicely said we couldnt be in there. at least he was casual about it and didnt kick us out or grab us or anything. prob cause he was a pj security not rod laver security as he had an american accent.
anyway here was the setlist, didnt think they could top last night but i
rekon they did.
Go, Last Exit, Brain Of J., World Wide Suicide, Given To Fly, Severed
Hand, Low Light, Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, Gone,
Do The Evolution, Even Flow, Lukin, Not For You / (Modern Girl), Life
Wasted, Better Man, Glorified G, Porch
1st Encore: Thumbing My Way, Last Kiss, Crazy Mary, Alive
2nd Encore: Big Wave, Blood, Leash, Baba O'Riley, Indifference
band were really into it again, crowd was suprisingly more rockin than
last night and the band were really feeding off of it. go was a awesome
opener and it just kept going from there. low light was the first awesome
highlight, then elderly woman which everyone sang along to, evolution
again was rockin most of the crowd jumping like crazy. evenflow and solo
was phenominal mike doing most of it behind his head, got a massive
applause at the end of it. glorified gun was a suprise as its heaps rare,
and porch was wicked at the end with eddie doing the intro himself nice
and slow on the guitar.
thumbing my way was just eddie on acoustic and boom and was awesome i love that song, crazy mary was also heaps good, at the end mike and boom were next to eachother jamming, boom would play a little solo, them mike would copy it on guitar.
second encore blood was heaps hardcore, strobes and lights going
everywhere, leash, got a good response. then the houselights came on and baba oriley started the whole band was jumping around, i thought that would be the end and the band were starting get ready to go off and good old stone started the chords to indifference, and the rest of the band followed, the whole crowd sung the bit 'i will scream my lungs out..til it fills this room'
overall an awesome show set list wise and crowd wise, i think the band
really appreciated the crowd last night, at the end of indifference they
all lined up in a line facing the crowd and gave us all a bow
cant wait for thursday night now!

Spectacular!!
My spot on the floor was worse than Monday night and i couldn't see the stage thanks to a heap of tall boys, but WOW!!!! i didn't care because the whole show - and especially the crowd energy & participation - was incredible. I danced, sung & carried on the whole time, sweating a lot more than the previous night (which must be some kind of indicator!?).
From where I was, the noise and crowd singing for most of the 2nd half of Alive was so loud, I couldn't hear Ed singing!! (or maybe he actually did stop!! don't know).
There were so many highlights, but I think my fav was Crazy Mary.
No L O I T E R I N G allowed...was brilliant. There weren't many around me who sang the song - or probably even knew it - but my voice was at full flight! Indifference was a perfect end.
And then all 6 of them joining for a bow! (correct me if i'm wrong, but they didn't do that Mon night?)
I was so pumped, I started getting a shit headache after the first couple of songs, but I would have had to be about to die to leave & scrounge a panadol. Hence my head was still pumping until i got home!!
And how hard was it settle down and fall asleep?? *phew*
Can't wait for tomorrow night, I hope it's as good or better!!

Missed out on Melbourne1 but from what people are writing here, Melbourne2 was superior anyways.
Ed certainly thought so, proclaiming us the best crowd in Australia so far (Woop-woop!)
I predicted Go would open and the whole place exploded. I was lower level straight in front, had a really nice view of everything going on onstage.
I thought Given to Fly, Lukin and Not for You were the highlights, and Leash was intense! I think we showed Ed that yes, we do indeed remember that song.
How about the reflecting of light off the guitar? That was so freaking cool.
A few of the people I was there with were at their first PJ shows and aren't massive fans so they asked me after what a few songs were. To them, Low Light and Even Flow seemed to be popular choices. My guitar obsessed friend was in awe of Mike with the behind-the-head solo.
Anyways, I missed out on Yellow Ledbetter and Black, hopefully get to see them on Thursday! I'm 3rd row baby! Keep an eye out for the guy in the Scottie Pippen basketball jersey... that's me...Seriously, just drop the leash already!0 -
