^ thanks schapp for the review. put me right there.. and you did not leave any details out.
hopefully you take away a feeling that the experience can only get better for you next time they come around. :)
  • As always Pearl Jam took it to the edge, the first time they play at the "Foro Sol" almost 60 000 fans.
During X John Doe introduce Eddie who was wearing a "El Santo" mask. He played evil doll with them.
Release is such a powerfull song to begin the show, with the blue lights it reminds me the PJ20 movie. Last exit was amazing, the crowd was waiting for something heavy to dance. Severed Hand the only song from the Pearl Jam album that they had play at Mexico. Corduroy is a classic and with Given to Fly the crowd was singing really loud. Brain of J a song never played at Mexico it was insane. Elderly Woman with the entire crowd singing. Faithfull a song the die hard fans were expecting. The solo of Even Flow began really slow and started building up till the Mike made the crowd went insane. Setting Forth sounds amazing with the whole band playing it. Unthought Known sounds great and Red Mosquito was introduce by Eddie as "Rojo Mosquito" Mike was amazing!!! During Daughter Eddie ask to low the lights so he can see the lighters Flicking at the Ryhtm of the song. Because of how the music travel and the huge crowd the lights moved like a Wave from the stage to the back of "el foro" Eddie : "Now we know we are in Mexico City" and made a move of his hand like he was sending the flickering lights to the back of the arena. Of the Earth is a great song, if you have the PJ20 the luxe you can see how powerfull song is. Nothingman with the whole crowd screaming "into the sun". During Betterman Eddie ask for help so the crowd sang till the first chorus. During Porch Eddie rans form one side of the stage to the other, jumping in the amps.
Just Breath was dedicated to a couple of friends of the band who got married and to everyone in Love. You could see some couples in the crowd really feeling the song. Off he goes was dedicated to Doe. During Do the Evolution the crowd was jumping son hard that the images in the screens were bouncing. Black was amazing the crowd was really loud and they give and amazing lighters show. During Spin the Black Circle, The Fixer, Jeremy and Why Go the crowd was getting louder (and happier). Olé was next (but there was a confusion on the band on wich song was next, in the printed setlist it was smile). Last Kiss has it histoy in Mexico, there are a couple of famous old spanish cover of that song and in the 2005 shows, it was the song played just before the band took the stage. The crowd sing reaaly loud during the end of the Song and Eddie encourge to sing it louder "OOOOOooooooo" Leash was really heavy. The whole stage was in the dark and a then a spotlight shine over Stone and he began the riff of Alive amazing version!!! During Rocking in the free world X join the stage and also a couple of the tech guys. The crowd started throwing their paper cups in the air during all the song, it looks amazing and the band was staring and enyoing the moment. The lights from the arena were on but the band keep playing. Indifference is one of my favorite songs and hearing it live made me feel a chill. Yellow Ledbetter was the last and Mike play a little bit of Little Wing at the end. It looks like Eddie didn't want to left the stage and he hang out ther some moments.
The Best show I ever see and probably would (we have to wait for them to return).

schapp I don't understand your review at all if you are from Mexico, you will know by now where you can by Merchandise...you are complaining about the crowd and you were sitting in Verde ??? wtf dude, if you are a fan you would be at least at General...I'm insist you are complaining about stupid things like you were too far...you are from Mexico you know the Foro Sol it's not your first time...next time buy a ticket in general...your review is giving at bad image about the concert yesterday I think that the sound at Foro Sol was great the screens well I'm sorry it was venues fault not Pearl Jam or crowd, I think you are bitter cause you were sitting far, it's your fault you choose the sits not the rest of the people, I think it was intense, some songs not that high but you have to understand also that not all the people who goes to a concert is a truly fan, it was a lot of new people that from sure came out with a new vision about the band and rock and roll, pretty sure they are coming back the next time the band is touring, if you think Argentina or Chile is better, well go there...simple.

Looks kind of difficult if he couldn't afford a ticket in general  just kidding, but I thought the same, bitter review based on the seat and the crowd next to him.

Fuck, I had my ticket for that concert and had to give it away to my sister, I knew it was going to be a kick ass show (set lists in Mexico City are "legendary") I couldn't fly on time, argh!! I will regret it for the rest of my life...or until they play again in Mexico, I won't miss it!!
I feel very close to you all now; so close I could almost... loan you money. Really. it goes that deep.

This was a wonderfully written organized review, one of the best I've ever read.
Thank you, I felt like I was there...
and I am greatly missing Pearl Jam.

I also feel in your words a bit of a lack of enthusiasm.
As what you are trying to convey of the crowd in general and the concert perhaps.

I am not a great 'performer' at PJ concerts and Daughter and Betterman,
    my least favorite songs.
Being more a mesmerized fan would describe what I am
but I always hope PJ knows just what they mean to the me,
to other fans like me and that they feel the love
move from the fans to them ...
    in thin air :D

thanks again for sharing your experience...

i haven't been back to visit mexico since 98 and this could've been the reason to go back. I guess I'll wait for the next round. Sounds like it was a great time and a good setlist.

Henrixg, I guess you missed the point; go back and read it again. I wanted to recap my show experience, and with that comes the plus and minuses I had; that's my personal view and can -and will- differ from others. You are certainly more than welcome to post your full review as well.

Any crowd as the one we had Thursday night would have be a dream for most fans. Maybe you are right in which I didn't stress out well enough that my fan view was from a guy traveling back to his hometown every time one of his favorite bands come play, because he needs to feed from this energetic audience.

My only complaint was merchandising; it was definitely lacking compared to other shows in the same venue as they didn't have half the same spots they usually have (and I'm not talking about the posters, I knew I was late for those anyways). The rest were only comments; why would I complain about having mirrored images on the screens? I just thought it was funny :) I did say I don't like the fact the stands in this venue are far away; that's the way it is and I know it, just wanted to mention how the setup is for those who have never been here. Sound in my area was great as well and I said so; also said the band was awesome, the set list was kick-ass and the crowd ended up being great... but it took loooooooong to build up. I would never bash my own people; I clearly stated that as mellow the crowd was *for* a Mexican audience, it was still far superior than most audiences I have seen. Otherwise, the band wouldn't have played over 2h40 and would have gone back to eat their well deserved Thanksgiving turkey ASAP. It doesn't matter people don't know the songs nor I ever expect any crowd as large as this one to be packed with die-hard fans; however, the energy is usually there since before the opening act. It was definitely a very weird night with mixed feelings as I wrote in my review and I'm not the only one (check the local fan forum as well). Now, you don't have to be up front to be considered a fan nor I'm bitter because of my location as I chose it myself LOL. Also, as I mentioned, the perspective when you are up front is very different (f*ck, you don't even care about anything else other than not falling down and enjoying the band you have right at your face  ). I don't think South America is better as you stated, but I do want to check it out next time around; I just think our crowd is just as energetic as those ones and this time around something was odd, also compared with 2003 and 2005 (and back then I got to be on the floor, behind the stage and up in section E at the Sports Palace, same awesome vibe every time).

Ultimately, I don't give a FK if one audience jumps more, shows off more or shouts more than others... what I look for is that feeling in which the entire venue is in sync with the band and where the energy is so intense you cannot contain yourself, your voice cracks up, cannot stop smiling and a couple of tears come out; that's what (IMHO) Mexico gives concert goers during the entire show (think of Betterman and spread it for 3 full hours :), or Megadeth last week ).

hey man - dont worry - i didnt read your post as bitter at all - in fact you seemed to buffer at almost every stop.

I greatly appreciate the time and detail you put into and it is a big deal how you experience the crowd as well and i would argue you prob had a much better vantage point to truly gauge it from where you were as opposed to being in the middle of general where you can really only get a constant sense of the people closest to you...

keep rockin...and sharing your true thoughts - some of us out here appreciate it :)

No worries, I don't want to make more controversy here, just saying that when you write something you should be objective because other people can take the wrong perspective...I brought my cousin and my roomate and they are still amazed about that night was the best concert of their lifes, incluiding Metallica's 06-06-09 (probably exaggerate my counsin because the energy after the concert but I take that as a fucking awesome first experience for them)...Next time I defenetly recomend to you to buy a place in general A people was really respectfull with the places, actually my Poster was safe all the night (We were infront of the T right in front of Ed's mic stand) peace out

I totally agree with Schapp's review, I was in general A, since im a big fan, but the venue didin,t help at all. I also agree that there wasn´t a conectionm between the crow and the band, this is by far my least favortie Mexico City concert. I couldn´t stand people talking during songs that they didn´t know, or laughing, I think the band was a bit tired too. But the setlist was amazing, had a great time, and I'll definetely buy the boot, but I really hope next time they play at the Palacio de los deportes Arena.
  • Despite all the cons that the venue has, the concert was such a blast of emotions.

I saw Eddie giving it all (even if he seemed a little bit sick and tired, He gave his heart to it! That's something that put some tears out of me...He' will allways be this caring and emotional guy!)...
Jeff giving it all (Sweting tons and tons as allways and beibg the engine of this rock&roll machine!)...
Matt giving it all (allways smiling allways precise, allwasy matt)...
Mike giving it all (outstanding sound, perfect riffts, great last hendrix Solo!)...
Stone giving it all (allways looking like he's having the time of his life!... An outstanding Do the Evolution solo!)...

its the 6th time they come to Mex City, the 6th time i've seen them perform and the 6th time that I go out from a concert feeling and thinking the same:

There's is nothnig that can be compared in the world than to see the band that you love the must, giving their heart aout in the stage and showing you that they love what they do...

PD. The 6th time that I cry because of the happines that this guys make me feel...

  • The best concert in my life, thanks PJ and 40 years more for you!!
  • I was just in front of Mike and Jeff, but I had to run away from there, because of a few number of fans arrived to the venue very late, that wanted to reach the stage.
And they've created such a mess in there, that many had to give up and ask the security to help them out.
That was a huge anger for me. I'm used to concerts, but I think that sections and barriers are created to avoid those kind of situations. And I made all the way from Italy to get there, and watch the concert with a crowd I thought was going to be great, but I couldn't.
I had to give up from there, to save my posters, my t-shirts, my camera.
It just took me a beer and 10 minutes to recover from this anger. And I could because of the greatest rock band ever.
    They played a great show.
The solos in Even flow (also Matt's) were great.
They did a great job on Of the Earth, they've been working on that song, I guess it will make it to in new album.
And the crowd was anyway very good, with the lighters thing, with the glasses thing (anyway, the glasses were yellow :) ), with the singin' on Betterman, on Black...
I also have to say that the sound was sometimes kinda diverted, maybe just because of the wind, but I don't know.
And thanks again to my new friend Paco!
  • Dont forget us! please release this bootleg!!

    Thanks!

FYI..... looks like there will be no bootleg for the Mexico City show... see post below and response. Sucks... .

Please let me know if anyone knows of a good Dvd video recording -or- sound recording of this show?

    Thanks-

Curious if there is any known date for the Mexico CIty show (11/24/2011) will be aired? Thought they were releasing 3 shows per week (M-T-W) ... and since Costa Rica was aired last Wed....just thought MC would have been today? Thanks for insight....so can be glued to PJ Radio when it airs!!!

    Unfortunately never. Recording snafu.

  • What happened with the bootleg of Mexico 2011? recorded the concert? not sold? :?
  • nope. what it looks like is the recording of the show got messed up? Who knows. Sucks to find this out just now. Guess this is the same reason why the concert was never broadcast live and the following day (11/25) as was mentioned in prior posts before the show.
  • The Tenclub answered me that due to technical problems the boot will not be release.
But it seems they will release a good audience recording...
    Really hope so..
