Huh...this is the first I've ever heard of there being fake PJ posters.
Anyone else have any insight?

You got yourself quite a deal there. 2000 wasn't the greatest year for posters, but this one is incredible.
I completely agree. '00 Chicago is insanely awesome in my opinion !

Those older posters being sold on the bay by partingways06 are all legit because I know him personally and he was a collector before many of u were even PJ fans, he's legit and so are his posters which he's only selling because he just had a son and needs to pay hospital bills.
As far as fakes, back in '03 to '04, there was one seller that was assumed to be selling fakes from that era but nothing was confirmed.

There was a time a few years back where there were circulated fakes of a few older posters beyond the Showbox 04 and the Texas 03. The ones I remember off hand were the Istanbul 96 and the Hartford 98 (and a few others I cannot recall). I remembers seeing side-by-side photos and although the fakes were of a decent quality there were definite differences.0

I don't know if you guys have seen month ago or so a funniest PJ poster auction ever.
The guy had PJ Portugal/Spain 96 Ames poster that he listed as a mint,
the only problem was that the poster was painted over and he cut the poster and change his shape  ....
other than that it was mint
I wish I had a link to show itCAN'T KEEP CRAZY MARY IN MY TREE NO WAY NOT FOR YOU. ALL THOSE YESTERDAY JEREMY is ALONE, SAD with RATS & BUGS it's HARD TO IMAGINE a JEREMY a BETTER MAN.

I did see that auction, and actually contacted the seller to confirm he was the one who indeed cut out the image field from the white border and painted over it because he "didn't like the colors." Informed him it was too bad, as an unaltered example of the poster would fetch ~ $500.
On another note, in line with what's been discussed about fakes, I recall a seller by the name of Piotr (spelling?) from Eastern Europe (Poland perhaps?) who was selling fake '96 Istanbul posters on eBay a few years back. When I called him out on it he began restricting which countries his auctions would be displayed for so as not to be noticed. His fake '96 Istanbul was easily identifiable, with the digits "19" in the image field painted brown inside the numbers when in fact those digits should not have any paint inside of them. There was also a fake '98 Raleigh floating around...I remember the tell-tale sign being the yellow color missing from the flower inside the image field.
IMO it's always worth dealing with respected and reputable sellers/traders/collectors and paying top dollar for a poster you're after (unless, of course, you find yourself a good deal you shouldn't/wouldn't walk away from). It's not worth it trying to save a few dollars only to end up with a fake that would take the wind out of your sails every time you admired it. At least that's how I feel about the matter. To quote the 10C from Newsletter #8: "Please understand we have a lot of members and it is very hard to please everybody. The Raleigh 98 poster, with the 3 monkeys on the bike, was bootlegged heavily. I believe you can tell on those by looking at the color of the spokes on the front wheel. The fakes had a bluish color I think. And so you see, I have come to doubt

Short answer: visit Expressobeans and search for the '98 Melbourne. Bring up the stored images of the poster and scroll through to the image of 2 examples of the '98 Melbourne poster side by side, one of them real and the other fake and you can compare the subtle differences (color variations being the obvious issue). To quote the 10C from Newsletter #8: "Please understand we have a lot of members and it is very hard to please everybody. The Melbourne poster I can't vouche for because I don't know the seller, but the poster looks legit. I saw the two different Melbourne's on EB but that doesn't mean one is a fake and the other is legit. During the print run process, colors could (and many times do) vary...some brighter, darker, etc. Subtle differences like those aren't tell tale signs of being fakes. Colors being added in or taken out...well, that's another story."If you want a friend, feed any animal." - JA
