Anyone up for a game of POSTER CHESS???

So as I was looking around my shop at all of posters the other day deciding where to start, I got an idea. Since I am doing this on my own, and really have no one here with me to help or to share it with, I thought maybe we could make it a group thing.

My idea is a game of "POSTER CHESS, or a GROUP PAINTING" if you will.....I thought EVERYONE could help me decide where to hang my posters. We can pick a "center piece" and just start working left, right, up and down from there. What I can do, assuming that this gets any response, is to take a picture of the starting wall, (we will call it the chess board or canvas), in the shop. We will start with the big purple wall. I will hang the first poster of choice, and then from the other pics of the posters in the shop, we can choose what would look good next. Whether it be by size, shape, color, venue, year or whatever and just branch out from there. After we start, I will post and updated pic each time I hang one so we can see the progress and decide how to procede until that wall is done and we move on to the next one. . I was leaning towards using the 3 Gorge shows as the starting point, but I figured I would put it out to the commitee and see if anyone has any other thoughts or ideas.

Sound like fun???

It may sound a bit silly to alot of folks, but I thought it might be fun. I am going to be in and out this weekend, so we wont start today, but if this takes off at all, I will start sometime next week. So let me know what you think and if you have suggestions as to starting points and we will see what happens. Anyhow, have a great weekend and thanks for any help!

youve seen how many arguments posters cause around here... i dont think were gonna come to a consensus on where to hang your posters... youd probably be better off doing it on your own eventho i know thats alot of work... i guess i just dont really get the idea yet tho... ill wait and see... hopefully i can be of some help

if you make a list of what posters you got i can start sketching up some ideas and stuff... all thats important is that you mix up size and color so you dont have similar ones near eachother

It doesnt necessarily have to be 100% unanimous, and you might be right. I mean, I just figured if everyone threw out suggestions as to "what next", I will just pick and go from there. It is ultimately my decision, I was just looking for some help is all. It may not work, but I thought it might be fun to try. You can see MOST of the posters here:

no i hear what youre going for... it may actually work out... i just think its tricky if you do it one poster at a time because you have to consider the space as a whole and want them evenly spaced and everything, ya know?... you have a expressobean gallery now right? whats your user name? thatd probably be the easiest way for me to see everything youve got

My user name on EB is "scottiepj"...The only problem with that is that I have ALL my posters there including the ones that are not framed. Not sure if you will be able to decipher from that or not. If not, as I said, I will email you a list of the framed ones.

I get what you are saying as well. It might not work, but maybe it will be fun to try. If nothing else, maybe I will get some good ideas. If no one else jumps in, maybe you and I will get it done! hahaha

HAHAHA...Yes, I had them done a few weeks back. As for the millionare part, I am no "TIMFOOTY"...(someone will get that! )... I spend like I am sometimes, but no. Just a regular guy with a big "HABIT"

Whats up Scott! Well I am not sure what you are thinking, but I think that you should make the Las Vegas 2000 your centerpiece and build around it...while leaving a space for the 10/22/2010 which is only right around the corner! I just got my Kenyon Hall from BK today and I feel like I should go hunt down a nice frame today to get that bad boy hung right next to the Signed Endless Summer tour poster that I have.

On another note, did the package with blank cds get to you yet??

beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... collecting posters is a passion of love... sometimes you get good ones sometimes not so good... but like ones own children... you cant love just one!

Good thing you arent my therapist then, as you know NOTHING about me or my passion for collecting. If you knew ANYTHING about me you would know this has nothing to do about getting attention or making people jealous. Excess? Too many, maybe for some people. Maybe for you, but I am quite comfortable with my collection and will continue to watch it grow. It is about sharing something I love with people who love it as well. Believe it or not, I think there are people here that enjoy seeing the pics whether you like it or not is of no interest to me. I will chalk your post up like the poster ratio you just mentioned except it is quite different, but probably more accurate.. 100-1 good-crap, ratio of those who like to those who dont. Your 1 being crap. I think there are FAR more people here who like seeing the pics and reading the posts than those who dont. I like them all in their own way. I know some are better than others, but having them all, it was too hard to decide what to frame what not to frame. Especially since I had them. What was the point of keeping them or getting them in the first place, if I wasnt going to hang them. So......:)

Ah...It is what it is. I expect some of this, it is all good. Doesnt look like this is gong to take off right now anyhow. Bad timing on my part what with the tour and all......I will let you know. Feel free to pm me any suggestions you have though, I would love to hear them!

speaking of suggestions... the scale model idea end up being too much work? or did you just feel dorky making a little paper doll house? i just got new ink cartridges for my printer... if you want me to try it on my end i could scan it when im done and see what you think of how i lay it out? just send me that list of all the frames ones like you were saying

HAHAHA....No, I didnt feel weird about making it, I am just not that good with the computer end of it and cant seem to get them to print out they way they need to be, or they are too big, or too small, so I said fuck it!

If you would like to do it, that would def be cool, I would appreciate seeing how someone else might see it. Let me know how much ink you use, and I will replace your cartridges if you want as well.

I also got an email from MasterFramer, and I am going to fly him over here in the next few weeks for a couple of days and we are going to hang them all. So having what you come up with for a tool/model would be VERY cool.

I think the Focal point, if you own it, should be the poster from your first show.

Or do it like a chessboard and alternate between darker and lighter posters.

Good Idea...However.....

I am STILL and will FOREVER be kicking myself in the ass for it, but I DIDNT buy a poster from my first show. 9-5-93 The Gorge...Better known as "Big Bear" I do believe. I wasnt into posters at all then. Hadnt really discovered them or the internet at my second show either...6-20-98 Missoula. I do believe that those two posters would now cost me about $2K if I wanted them. I am going to have more nightmares about that tonight, THANKS!!

I will keep the dark/light thing in mind though!!
