Few months ago Kasabian played on a Boeing 747, that would have been pretty sweet to see

I don't know, I thought that one was kind of dumb. Had the airplane actually taken off it would have been a little cooler, but what's the point of having a show in an airplane just sitting on the ground? That one guy from the band wouldn't shut up about how extreme it was, talking about how the airplane could have snapped in half, and saying "we fucking made it". I think he bought into their own gimmick a little too much.

Saw a very intimate Band of Horses show at Grand Central Station in NYC, that's definitely the coolest place I've ever seen a concert!

Also went to the DMB Caravan festival this year which was held on an abandoned airfield (Bader Field), thought that was pretty cool.

I didn't see this one, but it's certainly weird. The Rolling Stones announcing their 1975 Tour Of The Americas by playing on the back of a flatbed truck driving through the streets of New York. A gimmick later used by U2 and AC/DC, although the Stones didn't really invent it, the idea came to Charlie Watts after he heard New Orleans Jazz Musicians used to do it to promote club performances.

those are not really weird places, but I loved the two radiohead I saw in Italy - one was in the arena in verona, and the other one was in piazza castello in ferrara, both super beautiful spots for an open air show.

Without doubt the Union CHapel is the coolest, sitting on pews clutching at a cup of tea listening to Mark Lanegan.... HEAVEN! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQMr5OX4 ... re=related

Not all that strange but I saw Clutch play in the middle of an arcade in North Las Vegas once.
I also saw James Brown in the middle of nowhere at a campground in Florida which isn't necessarily a weird venue, just a weird combination.

Tom Wilson of Blackie And the Rodeo Kings/Junkhouse/Lee Harvey Osmond did a Western Canadian tour playing in people's living rooms. You had to get invited to go (all you had email the organizer and ask for tickets). I was sitting on a couch with a few friends, drinking beer, and listening to this Canadian legend regale us with tales of the road and singing songs from his back catalogue.

it was the coolest place I'd ever seen a show. it's about as intimate as it gets.

saw Elton John in St Marks Square in Venice.

There are a couple of venues dotted around europe and US that are caves, fitted with seats and a stage. Would be cool to see a show somewhere like that.

A buddy owns a brewery in central MA…. G Love & the Juice played there last fall… the stage was literally a compacted pile of wood chips w/ a tarp thrown over it… there was a field of Bison right next to us.

About 22 years ago, I saw Willie Nelson at an old grass covered drive in movie theater near Oakland City Indiana. It hadn't been a drive in for many years, they just set up a stage where the screen was and we all sat in lawn chairs.

Definitely a crazy experience.  I wish I had more info on who I saw.  At the time you never thought in a million years that a band playing in the desert would ever become mainstream...

Yup... & in the LA episode they went out to Rancho De La Luna, and talked about those generator parties.

That was a cool premise for a TV show, I'll have to re-watch.

Les duo de twang at mckittrick hotel nyc. 2014. Puddles the clown played with them a bit.  An old hotel that hosted shows. Not sure if it still does.

Limelight nyc was great too. An old church. Saw. GWAR!!!!!, Marilyn Manson, Rollins band, vision, kmfdm, and prob some other bands too. Nice to see some evil bands play on an altar.

Outpost in the Burbs nj is cool.  Another religious type place where anything goes.

Live at Drews nj. A dudes living room/ backyard. Gets great acts.
