The first 3 songs off of "Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia," The Dandy Warhols. The Dandys are my second favorite band behind PJ. And they are amazing live: mostly straight up wall of sound psychadellic bliss, mixed with popish songs that make you want to move and pump your fist.

Probably Songs for the Deaf. First you get kicked in the teeth with Millionaire, then you get into that groovy son of a bitch No One Knows, then the darkness of First It Giveth. One of the strongest opening runs I've ever heard.
Speaking of opening runs; Welcome to the Jungle - It's So Easy - Nightrain. Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction, of course.
Though to be fair, that album is great from start to finish. It really says something that they could stick Paradise City in the middle of it instead of it just being the guaranteed closer.
Thanks EPOTTSIII!

Avenged Sevenfold's City of Evil is a brilliant album start to finish, and the whole thing fits together, end to end, to the point where I hardly ever listen to an individual song off this album. If you are gonna listen to City of Evil, you need to listen to the whole thing - all 11 songs, back to back. Closest thing hard rock/metal comes to a Rock Opera. The first time I heard this album, I was simply amazed at how it fit together, end to end. I would not remove or change out a single song on this album.
I simply can't pick one 3-song sequence on that album, in fact. The closest I can come is this sequence:
Bat Country
Trashed and Scattered
Seize the Day
Sidewinder
The Wicked End
Strength of the World
In that sequence, you have a breathtaking lyrical progression of a good vs evil storyline...but incredibly, the songs range from maximum shredding to a near ballad to a classical guitar duet, to a full choral/symphonic number (no, I am not making this up). This is one of the most ambitious albums I've seen come out of a young band...and it is very impressive.
But really...J'd listen to the whole thing, end to end. It's the only way to truly understand what they are trying to accomplish with this record.
Enormously talented young men. And Synyster Gates is a Guitar God - quite possibly the best of his generation, IMO.
SYN is the most amazing guitarist saw them live a few months ago and I've never seen anybody shred like he does with such ease and have It still sound meanigful and passionate.
My three would be:
Everything in its right place
Kid a
The National anthem
Or
Paranoid android
Subterranean homesick alien
Exit music

That's true. I'm not too big a fan of Anything Goes and Think About You though, and I much prefer the acoustic You're Crazy, but the rest is golden.
Manchester & London 2009

Thorn In My Pride, Bad Luck, Blue Eyes Goodbye, and Sometimes Salvation from The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion. Although it's really hard not to shift the 3 and go with Hotel Illness or Remedy. That album is amazing.
Wow, what impeccable taste!! This was going to be my answer...
The Black Crowes hardly write a bad track but they have yet to better The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion. It is from start to finish a true classic.
Nice thread idea that will have me spotting many more three song combos!!
same here gary, i'm sure folks have more than 1 fav. 3 song combo, the choices are limitless

Fuck yeah, that is a spectacular record. I would say that Sting Me > Remedy >Thorn In My Pride is another great 3 song combo from that album.
the whole album from start to finish is just sublime
Indeed, by far their greatest work, yet often overlooked in favour of Shake Your Moneymaker.
The 3 in a row that instantly sprang to mind when I read the title was:
Incident On 57th Street
Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)
New York City Serenade
from Bruce Springsteen's The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle.

Good to meet another A7X fan on this board - was beginning to think I was the only one. I love that band - they've got it all. Brilliant musicianship across multiple sub-genres, songwriting ability, stage presence & showmanship. The whole package. My feeling is that anyone who is willing to just write off the whole decade of the 2000's as a wash, musically, really needs to listen to City of Evil. If a person can get through that album and still deny the amazing talent present in that band, then there is nothing else for it, IMO.
An yeah...Synyster Gates is a truly brilliant guitarist. And he makes it looks so damned easy, too - I love watching him - such a talented young man. He's only, like 28 or 29 too - he's got a great future ahead of him, IMO. And Zachy is a very strong counterpoint to him - can keep up and everything. Which says a lot about him as well!
RIP The Rev - he was another incredibly talented guy - could have gone down as a legendary drummer, if he'd lived, IMO.
P25. London, Ballad In Urgency, Wiser Time.
Sister Luck, Could I Have Been So Blind, Seeing Things.
